And who stood the best chance of taking the metaphorical crown? Let’s discuss.

In 2017, I ended my marriage of almost 12 years. It wasn’t one big betrayal. No one was a villain, not really. What happened was the oppressive weight of being a wife and mother and the burden of heterosexual marriage broke me. Three years later, in 2020, I realized I wasn’t alone. That the cultural weight of society keeps slipping onto the shoulders of mothers and wives. We are breaking. If our odds are correct, expect a big night for Morgan Wallen. The singer hasn’t won at the CMAs since his New Artist of the Year victory in 2020. He made himself an industry pariah in 2021 after he was caught using a racial slur. His music continued to top the charts, but he was banned from awards shows … for a little while at least.

Well, that was something. The 2023 ACM Awards ended on a Texas-sized downer, with Dolly Parton giving the premiere of the new song “World on Fire” from her upcoming rock project and showering the audience not only with confetti, but with a sense of impending doom while dancers twirled around her.
“What we gonna do when it all burns down?” she sang, backed by a stomp-clap rhythm straight out of late-Nineties Shania Twain. It sounded sort of urgent at first, but then she also sang vague things like “When did we lose in God we trust,...

Lainey Wilson was seemingly everywhere at the Academy of Country Music Awards, collecting four trophies on a night that saw Chris Stapleton win the entertainer of the year honour.
Wilson performed twice Thursday –- back-to-back –- and delivered heartfelt speeches after her wins, which put her next to fellow winners and country music legends.
She won album of the year for Bell Bottom Country accepting the honour slightly breathless after performing her song “Grease”.
Wilson called the album a “labor of love” and said she wrote 300 songs during the pandemic. She said people often tell her how much the album means to their lives, and she said writing them “saved mine.”

At the 58th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, the top prize, entertainer of the year, was handed out to Chris Stapleton, even as Lainey Wilson and Hardy came away tied for top honors with four awards each — including shared wins for their duet, “Wait in the Truck.”
Wilson was the night’s top winner, if it came down to number of categories in which she prevailed. The singer won for best female artist, best album, visual media and music event (the last two both for “Wait in the Truck”). Hardy won in three categories — best artist-songwriter, visual media and music event — but the ACMs counted him as winning twice in the music event division, as both an artist and producer on “Wait in the Truck,” upping his count for the night to four.

Hardy leads the pack with seven nominations this year, including Song of the Year and Artist-Songwriter of the Year, sharing three of those noms with collaborator Lainey Wilson for their song, “wait in the truck.” For her part, Wilson received six nods — the most for a female artist this year — including Female Artist of the Year.
Meanwhile, Miranda Lambert was breaking records before the telecast even kicked off. The “If I Was a Cowboy” singer received her 17th Female Artist of the Year nomination, passing the record 16 nominations previously held by Reba McEntire. Lambert had five nominations total this year and the opportunity to shatter even more records as the trophies are doled out.
So who actually walked away with the night’s coveted trophies?...

The Academy of Country Music and Dick Clark Productions announced an initial lineup of 15 performers for their upcoming awards show on Prime Video, with a heavy focus on the younger performers who have the lion’s share of nominations going into the May 11 kudocast.
Represented in the first list of artist to perform are Lainey Wilson, who has six nominations for the ACM Awards, and Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert and Cole Swindell, each of whom has five. “American Idol” may be a platform for aspiring unknown singers to showcase their talent outside of their bedrooms, but some contestants may have an advantage over others: being born into famous families.
Season 21 has already shown several so-called “Nepo Babies” — contestants with ties to the entertainment business — competing for the crown, including Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (pictured).

Kyle Jacobs, a songwriter and husband to singer Kellie Pickler, has died. He was 49.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said Friday in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that Jacobs’ death was being investigated as an apparent suicide.
Emergency personnel found Jacobs’ body in the couple’s Nashville home after receiving a 911 call, police said. “Mr. Jacobs’ wife, Kellie Pickler, reported that she awoke a short time earlier, did not see her husband, and began looking for him,” according to the statement. “After she and her personal assistant were unable to open the door to the upstairs bedroom/office, the assistant telephoned 911.”
Jacobs and Pickler married in 2011 after being introduced by mutual friends a few years prior. The pair also starred in the reality TV show I Love Kellie Pickler on CMT, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2017.

Sorry Garth, but thank God for answered prayers.
