In the Wizarding World, Quidditch is just as popular among the wand-bearing parts of the British population as soccer among its Muggle parts. Wizards are going crazy about their favorite Quidditch players, and this game is even officially played at Hogwarts, being the only sport that actively influences the school’s schedule.
Students love to watch and play Quidditch. Quidditch matters so much, in fact, that it’s impossible to delay — even if a player’s life is in obvious danger.
In Hogwarts, Quidditch Matters the Most
Seriously, Hogwarts just doesn’t ever delay its Quidditch games. A couple of times, we see the teams forced to play in a literal storm, and they don’t get a choice. The audience, too, has to sit there under bucketloads of falling water, cheering up their fellow students. No weather is too bad to play Quidditch — sounds like Wood, right?

Richard Belzer, original cast member of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” has died at the age of 78, according to media reports. The cause of death is currently unknown.
“Richard Belzer was the first actor to welcome me when I started at ‘Svu,'” current “Svu” showrunner Warren Leight wrote. “Open, warm, acerbic, whip smart, surprisingly kind. I loved writing for Munch, and I loved being with Belz.”
Belzer was best known to fans of the long-running crime drama as NYPD Det. John Munch, a sardonic investigator whose dry wit was guided by the actor’s years of stand-up comedy experience. While Belzer was best known for playing Munch on “Law & Order: Svu” from 1999 to 2013, he had previously played the character for seven seasons on the NBC drama “Homicide: Life on the Street,” during which Munch was a homicide detective that served as a mentor to his younger partner Det.

The Spider-Verse was already growing unwieldy long before the concept of the multiverse was so forcefully injected into the adventures of Peter Parker (and Peter Parker and Peter Parker) in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (a Sony film). Before that, it was bandied about in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (a Disney franchise), hinted at in “Into the Spider-Verse” (Sony), nodded to in the “Venom” films (Sony), and mined for still more material in the various Marvel television series. It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin, and that’s even with the generous help of the internet itself, rife with Wikipedia pages and explainers and timelines galore.
Now the Spider-Verse again expands, thanks to Sony’s long-delayed “Morbius,” ostensibly a Spidey spin-off set in a universe where Spider-Man doesn’t exist, but human-created vampirism does. Sure! DC may have long ago laid claim to the concept of a bat/man,...

After years’ worth of delays, Sony’s Morbius will finally premiere on April 1. But with a new blockbuster movie also comes reactions from fans who got to see an early screening. And for the most part, the reactions are not good. Chief complaints include dodgy CGI, poor storytelling, and an uneven tone. Of particular note are the post-credit scenes, which one tweeter called “some of the Worst you’ve ever seen.” Not too much praise for lead Jared Leto, but the response to Matt Smith’s over-the-top villain seems to be positive.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius is the latest in Sony’s Spiderverse. Leto plays Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant scientist who suffers from a rare blood disease. After he performs a transfusion on himself, Morbius becomes a living vampire, cursed with a thirst for blood but given enhanced senses and strength. Morbius goes up against Smith’s Milo,...

The appealingly atmospheric crime thriller Alphabet City (1984) debuts on Blu-ray this fall courtesy of Fun City Editions. Directed by Amos Poe, with a script by Poe, Gregory K. Heller (additional dialogue is credited to Robert Seidman), Alphabet City belongs in the company of After Hours and Into The Night (both 1985) as one of the ultimate ’80s nightmare nocturnes, and it is downright, well, criminal that Alphabet City is not better remembered today. Hopefully this Blu-ray will work towards amending that.

Much of the music on Kingdom in My Mind evolved out of studio jam sessions by the adept group of improvisers that includes siblings Oliver and Chris Wood along with Jano Rix. “Alabaster,” named for a small Alabama town just south of Birmingham, rolls by on a slinky bass-drums-keys groove that...

The Chief dishes out some fatherly advice to his sons, Joy Williams puts a new spin on a Depeche Mode classic and Kacey Musgraves teams up with Ronnie Milsap in this list of songs to stream this week.
Eric Church, “Some of It”
The follow-up single to “Desperate Man” finds Church in a fatherly mood, singing to his two sons about love, faith and the shelf life of good beer. More mainstream than most of his recent boundary-pushing hits, “Some of It” sounds destined for a lifetime of wedding slow dances and graduation-day playbacks.

To say that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s latest joint exploit, Holmes and Watson, is an abomination to all senses and a travesty to cinema would be to understate the truly abysmal and quite frankly condescending nature of the final product.
Subjectively the comedic prowess and effectiveness of cheap and on the nose pop culture references are completely relative to that of an audience – of whom are completely game and invested for a fun, entertaining ride (no matter what the actual context of the story entails) even before the picture ever begins. In that regard Holmes and Watson, dare I say, justifies itself in the context of bringing entertainment to the masses,...

Guitars and other instruments line the walls of the living room in the Nashville home that singer Kathy Mattea shares with husband-songwriter Jon Venzer. Alongside them are color-splashed works of art, many created by the couple’s close friends. On the fireplace mantel rests an oversized painting by Nashville artist Deborah Denson, a dramatic image that serves as the cover of Mattea’s new album Pretty Bird, released in September.

Blackberry Smoke’s crunchy Southern rock may be made for fuzzed-out electric guitars, but their songs sure do translate well to being played acoustically. Now the Georgia crew is releasing a new Ep, The Southern Ground Sessions, with just that in mind, including a stripped-down take of “Run Away From It All.”
The six-track Ep collects acoustic versions of songs taken from Blackberry Smoke’s latest LP, Find a Light, plus a cover, with these renditions all cut at Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Studios in Nashville. A chugging rock...

Back in 2008, the Doctor got himself a daughter in the shape of Jenny, a clone soldier derived from his DNA who only appeared in a single Doctor Who episode, suitably titled “The Doctor’s Daughter.” Despite fans wondering what happened to her for the past ten years, though, Jenny never returned….until now. The character is finally making a comeback in a new audio series from Big Finish Productions and as you can see from the trailer above, Georgia Tennant (nee Moffett) is back onboard as Jenny.
The actress’ casting has always tickled fans, as she’s actually the real-life daughter of Fifth Doctor Peter Davison and funnily enough, she later went on to marry her on-screen father, David Tennant. Starring alongside her in Jenny’s own spinoff series is Sean Biggerstaff, who you might know as Quidditch captain Oliver Wood in the first two Harry Potter movies.

Fantastic Beasts was kind of a weird choice for a movie adaptation. Why not pick one of these random Potterverse books next?
Another round of Fantastic Beasts is shambling into theaters. Which means it's also time for another deep dive into the Potterverse with one of our favorite games: If Fantastic Beasts is fair game, then which other in-universe books from the Potterverse should get the big screen treatment?
Here are our Potterverse movie adaptation pitches...

You know your mind jumped right to this oft-read-by-Hermione book. A compendium of everything that has ever happened at Hogwarts (give or take), it is probably chock full of ripe narrative for on-screen adaptation.

There’s almost no one left in Hollywood quite like Tom Cruise. He’s the epitome of a movie star, through and through. This week, he looks set to rule the box office and the action movie genre again with Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Another franchise outing for Cruise, it’s a very solid endeavor that plays right to his strengths. It’s the sort of thing you already know if you like or not, but if it seems up your alley, trust me when I say that it is. I saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Cruise just knows how to pull off an action flick, while being a star in the process. It’s one of his greatest skills. The film is the next in the Jack Reacher franchise. It picks up with the title character (Cruise) doing his lone wolf thing, though periodically breaking...

The good news is that the story of Ben-Hur is so rock solid that not even the director of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” can screw it up completely. The sixth feature-length film or miniseries to be adapted from Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel, “Ben-Hur: A Tale of The Christ,” Timur Bekmambetov’s take on the religious epic inevitably lacks the grandeur of Fred Niblo’s 1925 silent or the girth of William Wyler’s 1959 Oscar-hoarding classic. After all, this is 2016 (more specifically, the summer of 2016), a time when movies about Jesus are pitched only to the converted, and blockbusters can only be longer than 120 minutes if they end with two iconic superheroes fighting each other to a stalemate.
But if this new “Ben-Hur” was only provided with a fraction of the potential that’s been afforded to its predecessors, it sometimes finds the strength to reach out and scrape against its frustratingly low ceiling.

'Ben-Hur' 2016 with Jack Huston: Chariot race to the death. 'Ben-Hur' 2016 trailer: 'Gladiator' meets 'Fast Seven' meets 'Star Wars' meets… Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have released the trailer for their 2016 Ben-Hur remake (or reboot or readaptation) – a.k.a. Fast and Furious A.D., as one wag called it in an online comment. Instead of grandiose spectacle featuring at its core a “human” story with Christian overtones, this chariot-and-sandals epic is being sold as Gladiator meets Fast Seven meets Spartacus: Blood and Sand meets Star Wars – with Morgan Freeman's Sheik Ilderim as the Roman Empire's dreadlocked version of Alec Guinness' Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi. Say what you will, the trailer-makers sure know their target audience. And that's not the same crowd that would go check out what's usually referred to in the U.S. media as “faith” (i.e., Christian) movies. One assumes that particular audience segment will be getting...

The advertising promised a surfeit of sleaze -- but the film is a superior thriller about a real-life, low-rent serial killers from back in the late 1940s. Tony Lo Bianco and the great Shirley Stoler are Ray and Martha, mixed-up lovers running a Merry Widow racket through the personals ads in romance magazines. Leonard Kastle's film is dramatically and psychologically sound, while the disc extras detail the true crime story, which is far, far, sleazier. Dirty Snow: Espinosa’s Ungainly Yet Enjoyable Soviet Era Mystery
Grazing lightly over the Soviet era politics of the period and featuring a handsome, gussied up cast that features a tad too many problematic instances of accented English, Swedish helmer Daniel Espinosa still manages to make an utterly watchable film out of Child 44, his second studio picture since breaking into Hollywood with 2012’s Safe House. A cadre of diverse actors from Sweden, Poland, France, Denmark, the UK, the Us, Switzerland, and more, portray period Soviets, some to better effect than others.
Based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel, the first in a trilogy, Espinosa and screenwriter Richard Price have clearly tried to retain the source material’s sprawling scope, though the film sometimes gets tripped up in its own skirt layers. Considering the richness of the material, it’s too bad that our seemingly unwavering preference for shorter running...

If you were looking forward to seeing an updated version of the classic Ben-Hur story on the big screen, then you'll be happy to hear that principal photography has officially started on the epic, with a more full cast last revealed as well. Come inside to see.
I'm honestly not sure what to think about a Ben-Hur remake. Done correctly, it could be pretty cool and a great way to introduce a new generation to this story. It also has a good chance of sucking, but that's the risk you take with any remake. Either way, I tend to hold off judgement until I've seen footage, which we've just taken a big step towards seeing as filming has officially started:

If we were ever led to believe that our Harry Potter experience would end after the final page in the books or final frame in the films, recent history has proven otherwise. The years since J.K. Rowling’s devastating last pen stroke (or what I believed was her last) have since borne a decadence of extensions of the Potter realm, including three theme parks, a film spin-off, an encyclopedia, a pop-up museum tour, copious video games (several of the Lego variety), novel re-releases, and a sort of online interactive e-book kind of thing (does anybody really know what Pottermore is these days?...

★★★☆☆ In what's been a difficult year for summer blockbusters, it seems Hollywood is returning to the venerable set up of the good ol' buddy cop comedy for cheap thrills and fast bucks; firstly with Paul Feig's The Heat, which opened last week, and now 2 Guns (2013) - a brisk, unpretentious crime caper from Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur. The sub-genre lives and dies by the chemistry of its leads, and with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg - who are always devilishly pleasing to watch, especially in comedy roles - Kormákur ensures that his own contribution is more Midnight Run (1988) than Samurai Cop (1989).
Washington and Wahlberg pick up the schtick of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover's Lethal Weapon duo as two mismatched friends: Wahlberg as garrulous tough nut Stig, a definite nod to Gibson's Riggs; and Washington as smooth operator Bobby, a sexier version of Glover's retiring family man. The difference this time,...

Based on Steven Grant's comic book, 2 Guns is an upcoming action movie starring Denzel Washington and Mark Walhberg. It's fitting that the two actors are finally making a film together since they've kind of become kings of the generic thriller, with this year's Contraband and Safe House serving as perfect examples. Oddly enough, this actioner also combines the latter's cinematographer, Oliver Wood, with the former's director, Baltasar Kormakur, so if you liked both of those films, 2 Guns could be a dream come true. Universal has assembled a pretty good cast to support Washington and Walhberg, including Paula Patton, Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton, James Marsden and, according to Variety, Fred Ward is in the mix as well. Ward was last seen in Ruben Fleischer's 30 Minutes or Less but, for me, he'll always be Earl from Tremors or Gus Grissom from The Right Stuff. The gruff and grizzled acting...

As previously announced, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are set to star in the upcoming action flick 2 Guns. An adaptation of Steven Grant's comic book,, the film not only re-teams Walhberg with Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur but also finds Washington back with Safe House director of photography Oliver Wood. This only strengthens my first thought 2 Guns is somehow a cross-over sequel to both action films from early this year. It does have the number '2' in the title. Neither were very good but maybe this is their chance to make up for the mediocrity? In addition to the superstar leading men, 2 Guns also boasts a pretty impressive supporting cast including Paula Patton (Washington's Deja Vu love interest), Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton and, now, according to Variety, James Marsden. Marsden, who is best known for his role as Scott 'Cyclops' Summers in the X-Men series, will be playing...

Ryan Reynolds works hard throughout the CIA thriller Safe House, sweating his way through scenes of hand-to-hand combat, dodging explosions and leading a speeding car chase through the busy streets of Cape Town, South Africa. Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-packed thriller, Safe House. Here’s Ryan’s review…
Two characters who don’t get along are forced into an uneasy alliance by a common enemy. It’s a familiar thriller plot, and in many ways, the star-laden Safe House is as generic a thriller as they come.
In this instance, it’s Ryan Reynolds’ low-ranking CIA operative and Denzel Washington’s rogue veteran agent who are thrown together after a violent shoot-out. Denzel plays Tobin Frost, whose theft of sensitive government data has made him the target of an army of anonymous, heavily-armed villains, and when Frost’s brief detention at a CIA safe house run by rookie agent Matt Weston (Reynolds) is gate crashed by the bad guys on his trail, the pair barely escape with their lives.
At first determined to return Frost to the CIA for interrogation, Weston...

Many of our writers along with their Bollywood love, also proudly proclaim their love for the Harry Potter series. Most of us have read all of the books several times over and have seen all the films. We wish that we lived in the magical world of Harry Potter and in fact, most of us have said one time or a thousand, ‘I would love to go to Hogwarts’! The last film has made its way into the theaters and though the books are still there so we can visit, we will never again wait impatiently for the release of the next book or film. Since we are geeks in both Bollywood and Harry Potter we thought it might be fun and yes, as a way to distract ourselves from the sadness, if we thought of the perfect cast of Bollywood actors to take over the roles of the films.

When the clock strikes midnight tonight, the movie event of your lifetime will have begun. And to celebrate a decade of "Harry Potter" magic, both literal and figurative, we've been polling fans from around the world to find out just what their favorite "Harry Potter" films, heroes, villains and teachers are.
So here they are, the Ultimate Results of the Ultimate "Harry Potter" Poll -- and the winners may surprise you.
Of course, the winner of the favorite film vote isn't a huge surprise; after all, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" is both the most recent entry in the series as well as the one on everyone's mind as "Part 2" arrives in theaters tonight. And there was also little disagreement on the least favorite film, as "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" came in last on the favorite poll and first on the least favorite poll.

On the anniversary of the original release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone movie, we take a look back...
This Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone article originally ran on Den of Geek UK.
The Harry Potter films are to the Noughties what Star Wars was to the generation that grew up in the Seventies and Eighties. In many ways, that would be a shame for George Lucas, who presumably hoped his prequels would make Star Wars into the Star Wars for the Noughties.
On a personal level, I can trace my interest in films back to the production of the first film in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Having loved all of the books released at that point, I absorbed every nugget of information I could find about the big-screen version, before the film's release in November 2001.
It's for that reason that,...
