- A prolific composer, arranger, pianist, clarinetist, string bassist and tuba player who was most closely associated with Columbia, 20th Century-Fox and Universal studios. After studying at the Providence (Rhode Island) College of Music and privately with instructor-author Walter Piston, he began his career at Columbia Studios in 1938, then served in the United States Signal Corps during World War II.
