Netflix has released the first trailer for The Diplomat, a new political drama premiering on April 20, 2023. The trailer introduces Keri Russell as a recently appointed ambassador who’s called in to stop a conflict in the Persian Gulf. However, the battle at home appears just as likely to explode into a full-blown war.
Series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn says the series is about transcendence and long-term relationships.
“It’s hard to keep a relationship going, be it a marriage or a military alliance. We change, the world changes, and yet we want these relationships to go on forever,” stated Cahn in a feature on Netflix’s Tudum. It’s a show about a bunch of good people doing their best to keep their global and personal partnerships intact without killing each other. In the world of diplomacy, you’re dealing with a lot of rule-bound, protocol-driven behavior,...

Keri Russell is back as an American on foreign soil.
The “Americans” alum leads Netflix political drama “The Diplomat” as Kate Wyler, the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. From showrunner Debora Cahn, “The Diplomat” is a high-stakes, contemporary political drama about the transcendence and torture of long-term relationships — between countries and people.
Per the official synopsis, Kate was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic home…less so. War is brewing on one continent and boiling over on another. Kate will have to diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh also star, with Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, T’Nia Miller, and Miguel Sandoval guest-starring.

Nearly five years after “The Americans” concluded, Keri Russell is back with a brand new TV series. Russell stars as Kate Wyler in the Netflix thriller “The Diplomat,” the first trailer for which shows Wyler being tasked with stopping a war before it starts in her new position as U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Watch it at the top of the page now.
If the pressure to diffuse international crises amid global threats and forge strategic alliances in London wasn’t enough, there’s another twist: Kate must stand her ground in the new spotlight as she attempts to escape the looming shadow of her husband and well-respected diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
As Kate learns to assert her dominance amid her husband’s storied career, telling her new advisors her tenure will be an “adjustment,” Kate and Hal differ on their approach to the emerging politician’s new position.

“The Diplomat,” a political thriller series starring Keri Russell, will premiere on Thursday, April 20, Netflix said Thursday. The streamer also released a first-look photo of Russell in character, which you can see below.
The eight-episode series, in which Russell’s character Kate Wyler is the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, is from showrunner Debora Cahn of “The West Wing” and “Homeland.” Wyler has to contend not only with international crises, but her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
“‘The Diplomat’ is a show about the transcendence and torture of long-term relationships,” said Cahn, who is also the show’s creator and an executive producer. “It’s hard to keep a relationship going, be it a marriage or a military alliance. We welcome new cohost Sean Colletti to the podcast this week, and fortunately there was plenty of interesting TV for him to discuss. First we take a look at the comedies, including a preview of Louie, the pilots of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Bad Teacher, and the Parks and Rec finale. Then we talk genre, including an eventful Arrow and the still controversial Game of Thrones, and we round up Our Week in TV with the dramas, including new addition to the podcast Elementary. Afterward, Dan Toland of Earth-2.net returns to the DVD Shelf to help us take a look at the long-running, classic sitcom M*A*S*H.

With so many projects filming in the UK at the moment, and with most of the major film studios booked out by major American productions, British producers are having to be increasingly creative when it comes to finding somewhere to film. Which is how HeyUGuys found ourselves spending a snowy day early last year in a former Hsbc training centre just outside of Watford.
“It’s like a mini-studio,” explains producer, Terry Stone, “It’s like Pinewood Studios, but having the lot, and you just play on it all day”.
Stone, and his producing partner, Daniel Toland have taken over the 74 acre site to film their latest movie, the Julian Gilbey helmed, credit-card-fraud-flick, Plastic.
“You’ve got the main stately home over there, and that’s doubling for all the interiors, like the Dorchester, and then doubling again for the Marie de Guise.” Adds, Tolland, “We’ve got a fantastic art department.

Having spent the last year sat in screening rooms and cinemas watching over 200 of 2011′s cinematic offerings, it stands to reason that I’m going to have to sit through a fair share of duds. As I had seen the vast majority of the key Oscar plays before November, I spent the latter part of the year dedicating myself to seeking out the worst, most lowest common denominator fare ripe for a skewering, and with these twenty dreadful pictures, we have what are, in my opinion, the 20 biggest train wrecks of 2011. Note that Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star is still awaiting worldwide DVD release and didn’t get distribution in the U.K., so that’s one that I was forced to avoid, but I’m assured that it’s irredeemably horrible nevertheless. Anyway, on with the list…

Announcing itself as the first "urban comedy" from the UK, Anuvahood aims to knock the stuffing out of bleak dramas set in housing estates, movies like Kidulthood, in which triple-threat talent Adam Deacon previously appeared. Deacon, who co-wrote the script with Michael Vu and co-directed with Daniel Toland, stars as Kenneth, a ne'er do well who has pretensions of being "a bad man" in his neighborhood and dreams of fame in the music world. But he's not as tough as he likes to pretend, as the opening scene -- where he's flattened by a single punch from an authentic "bad man" -- amply demonstrates. Angry and embarrassed, he quits his job at a grocery store and storms off. He's quickly brought back down to...

Some casting details are coming in for Plan B's (Ben Drew) hip-hop musical Ill Manors. Mem Ferda has been attached to this production as the villain Vladimir, who lives a tough life on the streets of East London. These tough times are taken out on the character Katya (Natalie Press), who plays a prostitute. Ferda changed physically for this role by weightlifing and having several temporary tattoos applied to his skin. The original graphics can be seen left. Other characters had to transform for their roles to play those down on their luck and also starring are Riz Ahmed, Martin Serene, and Anouska Mond.
Others might know Plan B based on his musical talents including his chart topping album "The Defamation of Strickland Banks." Ill Manors will have a hip-hop musical vibe that will set the vicious tone for the film, with Plan B co-producing several new tracks for this film.

Blood feuds are as ancient as primordial human history. The Celts (Irish) have killed thousands throughout history. In Albania, 10,000 people have been killed in the last twenty years because of family or blood feuds. Now, Gunslinger, the production arm of Revolver Entertainment, will bring a family feud to East London. When Tanya (Kate Foster-Burns) is killed, Kayla must retaliate for her sister's murder the only way she knows how, by joining an all girl gang. The gang leader Danielle (Emma Hartley-Miller) vows to get vengeance on an opposing gang: "we'll be like them," which leads to even more violence.
The first trailer for Sket is here and the clip is mature rated because of violence and other adult material. As well, Gunslinger continues to create these gang styled thrillers often set in East London e.g. Shank, which just seem to highlight gang violence. Also, the material here seems to...

The first concept poster for Sket is now showing, courtesy of Revolver Entertainment. This production recently completed through Revolver Entertainment's Gunslinger production arm. This film company creates gang thrillers e.g. Shank, Anuvahood and others for moderate budgets (less than $1 million).
The graphic shows a girl gang looming in front of an austere background. The graphic says "Sisterhood," but the title would be offensive to most women. This title will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival this October. Check out the cast and crew details for Sket below.
The synopsis for Sket is here:
"When her sister is brutally murdered, teenager Kayla seeks revenge on the gang who carried out the attack. She joins a rival girl gang for support in her quest for retribution but soon finds herself caught up in their adrenaline-fuelled criminal lifestyle.

Gunslinger Films, the production arm of Revolver Entertainment, is getting set to release their third film, titled Sket. Sket is not a word that can be translated here with any class; however, the film deals with some of the lowlifes and family ties in a fictional female gang. Sket is a revenge thriller and Kayla, played by Aimee Kelly, seeks justice for those who attacked her sister. Gang warfare ensues.

Submarine (15)
(Richard Ayoade, 2010, UK/Us) Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige, Noah Taylor. 97 mins
Ayoade evidently did his homework before stepping behind the camera, swotting up on everything from the French New Wave to The Graduate to Wes Anderson, but the result is a fresh and distinctly British-flavoured coming-of-ager, full of provincial frustrations and recognisable types. The story takes few risks – an intelligent Welsh schoolkid's quest for self-definition and sexual adventure – but Submarine works hard to earn our affections with a mix of sincerity, energy and impeccable comic timing.

The ever-scrappier Allen observes life's frivolities with a bemused but cheerless eye in a London comedy whose great cast compensates for the fatalistic outlook.

You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger (12A)
(Woody Allen, 2010, UK/Us) Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Gemma Jones. 98 mins
The ever-scrappier Allen observes life's frivolities with a bemused but cheerless eye in a London comedy whose great cast compensates for the fatalistic outlook.
Route Irish (15)
(Ken Loach, 2010, UK/Fra/Ita/Bel/Spa) Mark Womack, Andrea Lowe, John Bishop. 109 mins
