Things aren’t looking great for Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his allies in FX’s Shōgun. He’s lost his son, and is currently being ushered to Osaka, where he will almost definitely be sentenced to death by Lady Ochiba (Fumi Mikado), Lord Ishido (Takehiro Hira), and the other Regents. Discouraged by Toranaga’s resignation to his fate, Hiromatsu (Tokuma Nishioka) speaks out against his decision to surrender, with the support of other leaders in Torganaga’s army. But as usual, things aren’t always what they seem with Torganaga, and he may still have a few tricks left up his sleeve.
Here’s everything you need to know before episode 9 of Shōgun, including where to watch and a full recap of episode 8.

Epic Games made a revolution in gaming with Fortnite. The battle royale title went beyond just the collaboration and is forming its own universe within the actual game. Various very popular franchises have been in Fortnite, like Marvel, Star Wars, other videogame characters, and even music stars like Ariana Grande and recently Lady Gaga.
But new leaks are pointing to what will be coming next in Fortnite. It appears that a Greek-themed season is near with the popular gods of this mythology as protagonists; this could also mean a famous Homer to be in the game and not the one from the odyssey.
The Odyssey, Homer of The Simpsons, and Greek-themed Season Could be Coming to Fortnite Artwork of the next season has reportedly leaked.

“What happens when you put one down-on-his-luck amateur novelist and one amnesiac ghost girl in one bargain-priced haunted apartment? You get the punch line of Bambi's life. The good news is, Ako is neither the ghost of the person who supposedly committed suicide in the rental nor an unfriendly poltergeist hell-bent on causing chaos. But she needs a place to hang out until she can ascend to wherever ghosts go and Bambi needs source material for his career, so maybe they can have a mutually beneficial relationship…” (Yen Press)

The story of the forty-seven ronin of Ako avenging their fallen master is a significant historical event in Japanese history that has practically gone down as a legend. The events that transpired have frequently been retold in media, most notably in literature through the fictionalized accounts known as “Chushingura.” In addition, many retellings of the vengeful retainers' plot for revenge have been depicted in traditional theater and in cinema. Filmmakers that have directed their depictions include Kenji Mizoguchi, Kunio Watanabe, and Hiroshi Inagaki. Of the countless cinematic renditions, one of the more underrated and unique is Kon Ichikawa's “47 Ronin.”

Director Kon Ichikawa, who had directed a fair share of period pieces beforehand like “An Actor's Revenge” and “The Wanderers,” had expressed interest in adapting “Chushingura” for quite some time. He was finally given the opportunity towards the approaching end of his career.

As I have mentioned many times before, violence has been repeatedly used in cinema as a medium of intricate commentary, mostly revolving around sociopolitical, psychological and philosophical themes. This tactic finds one of its apogees in “Batch 81”, a film that deals with the underground tactics of the university fraternities, but is also an allegory regarding fascism and the Marcos regime. The film premiered at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival during the Directors' Fortnight, screened alongside de Leon's 1981 “Kisapmata”. The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Critics) included it on their list of the Ten Best Films of the Decade. In 2017, it was digitally restored with the support of the Asian Film Archive, with a theatrical premiere at the 74th Venice International Film Festival as part of the Venice Classics section.

“How to Find Happiness”. A great question, that this film attempts to provide an answer for in a rather unique production about an unlikely relationship forming between a doctor and a patient.
How To Find Happiness is screening at International Film Festival Rotterdam
Shunichi Nagasaki’s film features Toshihide (Mahiro Takasugi), a young doctor living at his clinic. When Ako (Nagisa Sekimizu) drops into his clinic, and looks exactly like the woman he has a crush on, he’s clueless. Ako then is forced to stay around due to medical reasons, and starts temporarily living with Toshihide and his family. He soon realizes that Ako is not the woman he hoped she was, but that does not stop them from bonding anyways, and gives both of the characters the development they so necessarily needed.
The film does a lot of things well, but excels in showing two less-than-whole characters in pretty unique ways.

Second part of the “L/R15” project between Hideo Jojo and RIkiya Imaizumi, which aimed at completing two sex comedies with an R15 classification, following “Love Nonetheless”, “Straying” features the latter as director and the former as scriptwriter, in a style of film that reminds intensely of Hong Sang-soo’s cinema.
Straying is screening at Camera Japan
Ako Machido, who works for an erotic manga magazine for ladies, is about to take a divorce from her husband, Hiro, who works for a tabloid. The operation goes relatively smoothly, but an argument ensues over who takes the cat, Kanta, with both parties wishing to keep him, and the cat eventually sharing his opinion by peeing on the divorce papers. The reason for the divorce is that Hiro is having an extramarital relationship with a colleague, Mamiko, who seems to be quite in love with him, not to mention better at their line of work,...

Winner of the Audience Award at the 2021 PIa Film Festival, “In the Distance” follows the path of the Japanese comedy/drama quite closely, making, though, some very interesting comments during its four acts.
“In the Distance” is screening at InlanDimensions
Aki is an aspiring photographer who lives in the same apartment as San, a part-time worker. They were sharing a house with a mutual friend, but are now stuck living together, while
their friend is away on a working holiday abroad, with the tension, mostly deriving from the former becoming quite enervated as the latter seems to frequently take her mail in her room without letting her know. As the movie begins, Tadokoro, a man from the real estate agency in charge of their building, knocks their door to communicate the complaints of some of the neighbors due to the loud practicing of accordion by San. In the end though,...
