19 /08/14: brutal images of photojournalist James Wright Foley, murdered by Mohammed Emwazi, spread like wildfire across the globe, defining a watershed moment in the rise of Isis and their place in a sickened global consciousness. But that did not define the man. Director Brian Oakes paints a deeply moving, intimate portrait of his childhood friend in Jim: The James Foley Story to reclaim his life from death. He sat down with CineVue's Matthew Anderson to discuss legacy, family, the crucial role of conflict journalism and humanity even in the most dire of circumstances.

Following the widespread acclaim of his monochrome 2012 feature Tabu, Miguel Gomes ups the stakes with six-hour three volume epic Arabian Nights. An extraordinarily ambitious and eclectic work, it combines the mythology of Scheherazade's tales with a critique of the Portuguese government's program of austerity during the financial crisis. Confused? You may will be. But there is something quite brilliant here. Between cigarettes and with glass of red wine in hand, he spoke to CineVue's Matthew Anderson about his latest cinematic creation.

The good folks at Pixar have done it again. Extraordinarily, twelve years have passed since Finding Nemo won hearts and minds all over the world and long-awaited sequel Finding Dory is another sure-fire hit for the peerless production studio. Writer-director Andrew Stanton - who was part of the team to get the Toy Story train rolling, helmed the former film as well as 2008's magical robotic tale Wall-e - and producer Lindsey Collins sat down with CineVue's Matthew Anderson for a chat about Pixar's continued successes.

Six men, a captain and two chefs on a boat. A competition of points both positive and negative on each and every aspect of their being and conduct. The winner crowned 'The Best in General'. With Chevalier, Greek director Athina Rachel Tsangari exposes the deeply rooted competitiveness of male kind and the unspoken anxieties buried just as deep. She spoke with CineVue's Matthew Anderson to discuss her latest project, winner of the Best Film prize at last year's BFI London Film Festival.

Writer-director Rachel Tunnard and leading lady-executive producer Jodie Whittaker are a bubbly pair. Sparky personalities and the closeness of their long-term friendship imbues kooky British indie Adult Life Skills with a warmth, familiarity and humour. Vincent Lindon, a powerhouse and household name of French film for decades, received widespread acclaim for his subdued, naturalistic performance in Stéphane Brizé's The Measure of a Man. His turn as a family man struggling against the persistent tides of the economic recession saw him bag the Best Actor gongs at Cannes and the Césars. Lindon talked to CineVue's Matthew Anderson ahead of the UK release of The Measure of a Man, in cinemas this Friday through New Wave Films.

★★☆☆☆ During the Q & A session which followed the international première of Shemi Zarhin's The Kind Words (2015) on the opening night of this year's Toronto Film Festival, the Israeli director was asked how he struck a balance between the tragic and comedic elements of a story that teeters precariously between each end of the emotional spectrum. His sadly ironic response - given that the film has been nearly a decade in the making - was that he had no precise plans; that he did not want to oblige a viewer to feel a certain way. Whilst this ambiguity allows for individual interpretation, the lack of tonal clarity unfortunately prevents his sixth feature from being the film it should, and certainly could, have been.
There's no doubt that Zarhin, who also penned the script, is a gifted and creative storyteller. As with The World Is Funny (2012), his latest focuses on three siblings,...

Sure, she’s known for her kind persona and royal grace, but Kate Middleton is also one of the biggest fashion icons around, so it’s no surprise that famed designers like Jenny Packham are singing the Duchess’ praises.
Packham has designed multiple ensembles for the brunette beauty and dished to Women’s Wear Daily that Prince William’s wife is a pleasure to work with.
"It’s always quite a collaboration," Packham explained. And when asked if they work together on beautiful getups, Jenny added, “Absolutely.”
"Sometimes when we dress celebrities, there are always loads of Twitters and things like that when I wake up, I think, 'Oh right, she wore it,'" Packham said, referring to Kate’s recent appearance in New Zealand. "You kind of always know where it's going to be worn."

The world’s first Porsche, the ‘P1,’ has been found after 112 years and put on display in Germany at the Porsche Museum.
The first Porsche, constructed in 1898 by a 22-year-old Ferdinand Porsche, was the first car ever built by Porsche, who eventually founded the car brand in 1931. The P1, as the first Porsche is lovingly called, is an all-electric car built using an Austrian electric motor. It has three horsepower and weighs in at just shy of 3,000 pounds.
Porsche describes the P1 as resembling “an old horse-drawn carriage” and praises it as “a technological and historical sensation.” The company will put the P1 on permanent display at the Porsche Museum.
“Electric cars of that era were quieter, easier to operate, and needed no shifting of gears. It was an open question for several years from the start of the industry as whether gas, steam, or electric would win out,” Henry Ford Museum curator,...

DanceOn has secured an investment that will allow it to waltz past its YouTube origins and become something much bigger. The dance video network has landed a $4 million funding round led by AMC Networks. The windfall will allow DanceOn to expand its offerings to multiple platforms, though it will retain its position as a top YouTube dance hub. “YouTube is a really important part of what we do, and we’ll always be fostering a community and audience on YouTube,” said DanceOn CEO Amanda Taylor. "But we're really looking at growing beyond this definition of being a multichannel network...To the extent we are generating premium content, we want to be on all devices.” With that goal in mind, it's not surprising to find Roku Cmo Matthew Anderson among the list of investors for the recent round. Battle Of The Pacific
Stars: Sean McGowan, Daniel Baldwin, Treat Williams, Matthew R. Anderson, Yutaka Takenouchi | Written by Takuya Nishioka, Gregory Marquette, Cellin Gluck | Directed by Hideyuki Hirayama
Four months after the hostilities of WWII officially ceased, Capt. Sakae Oba (aka The Fox) and a loyalist band of Japanese soldiers entrenched themselves on Mt. Tapochau and continued fighting a guerrilla campaign. Meanwhile, a U.S. officer, determined to flush out him out of his mountain hideaway, sets about his seemingly simple objective. Strengthened by several hundred civilians who refuse to enter camps or follow suicide directives, Oba and his people fight on, unable to come to terms with an unthinkable defeat.
Much like Clint Eastwood’s Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, Battle of the Pacific is a war movie told from the perspective of both sides of the battle – in this case the Japanese and the American’s.

They are trying to eradicate a disease that turns vampires into the undead? The plot seems slightly confusing, but this is essentially vampires vs. zombies. In the trailer below, there is lots of gunfire as Jack holds back the hordes of the undead. The awkward pauses in the clip dampens the affect. However, there are lots of zombie film fans out there, so give the reel a look inside.

Production Company: Painless Productions.
Executive Producer: Jim Casey.
Cast: Amy Allan, Stephen Dischiavi, and Matthew Anderson.
As new paranormal reality television shows are broadcast, they can belong to one of three markets: to sell a location about the fact that it may be haunted, to tell a spooky tale or to make a new celebrity of the host(s). "The Dead Files" is all of the above, and for one of the two partners, Amy Allan is trying to tell the world that she speaks to dead people. She is a medium, shows no remorse by cheapening her credibility. She uses the line from the Sixth Sense, "I see dead people."
Most serious paranormal investigators want to stay as far away from cheap movie references.
Steve Di Schiavi on the other hand, can only see bupkis. He wants cold hard facts and evidence that he can hold in his hands.

In an event described as "a B-movie jamboree of awesomeness", the Polly Staffle Grindhouse Fest - informally known as the Pollygrind - launches this Wednesday until May 16 at the Sci-Fi Center (2520 State Street) in Las Vegas.
Thirteen films and more than 31 trailers, music videos and shorts will play the PollyGrind, described by Vampires.com as "one of the biggest events for grindhouse and trash film lovers this year."
Organiser Chad Clinton Freeman said: "The festival is being put on in the same spirit as old-school grindhouse cinema - no funding and creatively using whatever is available.
"With that said, I think the line-up turned out rather nicely and I think everyone that comes out will enjoy what William Powell's Sci-Fi Center and the PollyGrind have to offer."

James Murdoch’s understanding with his father has been that, at an imminent time, he would take the next step in the family succession by moving to New York from his post in London where he runs the European and Asian operations of News Corp. On James’ timetable, that should be happening already. Indeed, he keeps trying to insert himself into the New York business with an especially impatient hand. Late last year, James helped push his father’s PR lieutenant, Gary Ginsberg, out of the company, and tried to install his own PR factotum, Matthew Anderson, in his place (his father fired Ginsberg, but has resisted Anderson). The recent public attack on Roger Ailes by Murdoch's son-in-law, Matthew Freud, had, according to a News Corp. intimate, “James’ fingerprints all over it.” But the more pushy James becomes, the more his father stalls. One industry figure who socializes with the Murdochs believes that Wendi Murdoch,...

Chicago – While adult comedies continue to rake in the big bucks at the box office, adult dramas continue to plunge in popularity, particularly dramas centering on the war in Iraq. When a brilliant edge-of-your-seat thriller like Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” or a galvanizing documentary like “Taxi to the Dark Side” can’t even manage to find an audience, a tiny horror picture like “The Objective” doesn’t stand a chance.
DVD Rating: 2.5/5.0

Poor Daniel Myrick. After all but setting the world on fire a decade ago with The Blair Witch Project (co-directed with Eduardo Sanchez), a film that managed to grab headlines in the summer of The Matrix, Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, and The Sixth Sense, he returns now with The Objective, a film that is split by two opposing instincts: recapturing the glory of his initial success and expanding his vision to a scope that would suggest he’s ready to move on to a studio feature. Neither instinct is satisfied by either the film’s plotline or its execution, leaving us to wonder what movie he really wanted to make.

Current events inform these two genre films: Daniel Myrick’s The Objective takes place against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, while Jeff Fisher’s Killer Movie puts a horrific spin on the endless reality-television trend. For The Blair Witch Project’s Myrick, The Objective marks a return to the scenario of a group of people venturing into forbidding territory where mysterious forces threaten them, while Fisher has intimate knowledge of his film’s specific milieu, having served time on the likes of The Real World/Road Rules and The Simple Life. But while the former effectively makes an already harrowing situation worse with the introduction of the supernatural, the latter doesn’t come up with anything that’s as scary as, say, the prospect of sitting through a whole season of Paris Hilton hijinx. Myrick, who scripted The Objective with Mark A. Patton and Wesley Clark Jr.,...

Writers: Daniel Myrick, Mark A. Patton and Wesley Clark Jr.
Cinematographer: Stephanie Martin
Starring: Jonas Ball, Matthew R. Anderson, Jon Huertas, Sam Hunter, Jeff Prewett
Studio/Run Time: IFC Films, 104 mins.
Whatever else he may do, director Daniel Myrick will always have the words "Blair Witch Project" attached to his name. Judging from his work on The Objective, that may be the way he likes it, since the film in large part reprises what Blair Witch did earlier but without all the faux-cinema-verite trappings. Jonas Ball plays a CIA agent searching for a massive radiation silhouette spotted by spy satellites in Afghanistan. With him is a small group of special ops soldiers, assigned to protect him from what may lie in wait for them in the post-9/11 country. The group soon finds itself lost in the desert and under attack by some unknown supernatural force.
