Tuesday is turning into in-season reality night on Fox for the first time in almost a decade.
The network has slotted Tuesday, February 26 for the Season 7 premiere of MasterChef Junior. The culinary competition series featuring talented kid chefs will air at 8 Pm, replacing Lethal Weapon, whose 16-episode third season will have its finale the previous week.
MasterChef Junior will be followed by previously announced new obstacle course reality competition Mental Samurai at 9 Pm, also set to premiere Feb. 26. It will replace drama The Gifted.
Tuesday has been a weak spot on Fox’s schedule, and the network is looking to shake things up with an all-reality lineup, which involves some counter-programming, going with an unscripted show against NBC”s drama juggernaut This Is Us at 9 Pm.
The last time Fox had an all-reality Tuesday lineup during the regular broadcast season was in fall 2009 when it aired an in-season installment of...

Netflix has booked “The Final Table,” a high-end cooking contest that pits 24 international star chefs against each other in creating dishes from around the world. The streaming giant has also lined up “Death by Magic,” featuring a British magician who travels the globe performing stunts that stymied – and killed – other illusionists.
Unveiling sneak peeks of both shows at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Thursday, Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of unscripted programming, said “The Final Table” was distinguished by its starry complement of competing chefs, at least half of whom have a Michelin star. “We wanted to take a bold swing and sort of show in that space only what Netflix could really do,” Riegg said. “Just having that caliber of chef is something new.”
The contestants try their hand at haute-cuisine versions of national dishes such as Spanish paella, an American Thanksgiving dinner and a traditional English breakfast.

"MasterChef Junior"'s TCA panel started earlier, during the executive session, when Dana Walden pointed out that the series is "one of only eight shows that has grown season to season." Its growth and growing popularity may be due to its truly aspirational format and formula of subjecting super-adorable and super-talented kids to the rigors of a professional cooking competition. But don't underestimate power of the cute kids. Seven of those young contestants were on hand to answer questions, perform a song they'd written ("The Box," referring to one of the show's elements) and choreographed. They later helped critics make cake balls, which mostly meant being super-nice and gracious about our inability to crumble cake and reform it into balls. (They also graciously ignored all the giggling about the double entendre.) The prevailing theme during the press conference seemed to be the innocence and wholesomeness that pervades "MasterChef Junior," and...

It improved Fox’s performance in the hour versus last year by +58% in adults 18-49. The finale of "MasterChef" Season 4 airs Wednesday night (Sept. 11) on Fox, with Natasha Crnjac facing off with Luca Manfe. The two finalists tell the press that the final challenge is definitely filled with pressure.
"We really worked very hard," says Manfe. "The finale itself was probably the toughest because there was so much at stake and the emotions were doing a big, big part on it because you know that that was the last chance that you had to go for the title. There was no comeback from that one. You really had to put more than 100 percent."
"I definitely say it was a lot of pressure, it's very hard," adds Crnjac. "Just being in that finale and being against a strong competitor as Luca, it's definitely really hard. ... it's a very emotional experience and it's just something that you kind of have to be there in the moment and...

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

Tucked away at the end of an industrial cul-de-sac in Culver City, Calif., is an undistinguished-looking building whose drab exterior belies the elegant set/kitchen built inside for Fox's cooking competition series "MasterChef."

On hand to pass judgment are chefs Gordon Ramsay and Graham Elliot and restaurateur Joe Bastianich, comparing flavor, originality, creativity and presentation.

It didn't take long for new Shine Group Americas CEO Emiliano Calemzuk to put his stamp on Reveille with a major executive move. Calemzuk, who joined Shine last month, has reshuffled the top management at the Shine-owned company: co-managing director Howard T. Owens will now run the company solo as managing director, while co-managing director Mark Koops is leaving. Additionally, executive producer Robin Ashbrook has been promoted to the newly created role of Head of Non-Scripted Entertainment. Koops is pursuing a new venture, which will be announced shortly, Shine said. “This is a re-structure that will equip Reveille for the next period of its growth," Calemzuk said. In a similar fashion, 3 weeks after taking over Fox TV Studios as president in 2007, Calemzuk shook up the company's top management by axing 3 department heads. After the May 2007 departure of Reveille founder Ben Silverman to run NBC, the company was co-headed by 4 management directors,...

Paula Abdul is returning to the judges' table as part of a new primetime talent competition series on CBS.
Abdul will be lead judge, executive producer, creative partner, mentor and coach on "Got to Dance," a series from Shine/Reveille based on the U.K. hit.
The show is billed as broadcast's first all-ages, all-genres dance series -- "from ballroom to break dance, bhangra to ballet, and tap to tango." Acts will compete for a panel of judges, with viewers getting to vote for their favorites during the semifinals and finals.
CBS is expected to announce Monday that Abdul is joining the series.
Since announcing via Twitter last year that she was leaving "American Idol," networks have been courting Abdul for an array of unscripted projects. In January, ABC made her an offer to appear on "Dancing With the Stars," and Fox reportedly has eyed her for Simon Cowell...

CBS is getting its own dance show.
The network is partnering with Reveille to bring U.K. hit "Got to Dance" to the States.
The competition series is billed as the first all-ages all-genres dance series. A wide variety of acts will compete for a panel of judges, with viewers getting to vote during the semifinals and finals.
CBS has greenlit the project for an unspecified number of episodes. This marks the third major network to have a dance-competition series, joining ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," with NBC's "Got Talent" also having a foot in the genre.
Sources say CBS alternative topper Jennifer Bresnan liked the relatability of expanding the genre beyond professionals to include amateurs with undiscovered talent and high aspirations.
Elisabeth Murdoch, Howard T. Owens, Mark Koops and Robin Ashbrook will executive produce the Shine Group format created by Princess Prods.

Desperate times in the international TV business sometimes call for desperate action -- and that's what's had three Shine Group executives singing, dancing and playing make-believe TV hosts around Europe to sell their latest project.
With their new talent format "Fame & Fortune" to sell, Los Angeles-based ShineReveille set up pre-miptv "stagings" of the as-yet-unproduced show for European broadcasters. This involved company executives taking on the role of talent participants and actually singing their hearts out while another played host.
ProSiebenSat1 Group is among broadcasters impressed with the singing and dancing prowess of the three execs and has inked a deal ahead of next week's big Mip international TV market in Cannes. Ten other major broadcasters are said to be in pre-market talks with the company.
The talented trio are U.K.-based Shine Group managing director Jamie Munro, Robin Ashbrook of Shine North and Shine Reveille senior vp John Pollak.
