- Paul Askonas was born on November 13, 1872 in Teplitz, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary [now Teplice, Czech Republic]. He was an actor, known for The Hands of Orlac (1924), Trilby (1912) and Hoffmanns Erzählungen (1923). He died on November 26, 1935 in Vienna, Austria.

- The actor Paul Askonas began his acting career at the Stadttheater St. Pölten in 1896. In the next years followed engagements at other theaters, among others at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1904.
- His real film career started in 1920 and he impersonated numerous roles in well-known silent movies.
- His film career came to an end with the rise of the sound film. He only took part in the short movie "Eine Dirne ist ermordet worden" (1930). Afterwards he dedicated to the theater again.
- He became a permanent member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna from 1907 to 1920.
