There are few alumni of MTV’s “The Real World” who have had as lasting a legacy as Danny Roberts. When the Georgia native stepped into the house for 2000’s “The Real World: New Orleans,” he was a strikingly handsome 22-year-old college graduate who was, at that point, still one of the few openly gay people on television. That would’ve been enough to make Danny famous, but his ongoing relationship with Paul Dill — a U.S. Army captain during the era of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy — made Danny a sensation. To protect Paul’s identity, “Real World” producers agreed to blur his appearance, which added to the intensity of their relationship and made the couple overnight poster boys for the LGBTQ rights movement.
Today, however, Danny lives in seclusion in a remote cabin in Vermont. Other than regular posts to his Instagram account, including of his six-year-old daughter,...

How well do you remember the first season of The Real World? If you’re of a certain age, it’s most likely downright embedded in your pop culture DNA. You can wax rhapsodic about Julie’s nonsensical assertions about Heather B.’s pager, knew Eric Nies well before he graced The Grind, and might have even picked up a…...

Jussie Smollett has set the cast for his upcoming feature directorial debut, B-Boys Blues, which is currently filming in New York. Grammy-nominated recording artist Ledisi (Selma), Timothy Richardson (David Makes Man), Thomas Mackie, and Brandee Evans (P-Valley) have been tapped to star in the film, which is based on James Earl Hardy’s 1994 novel about the black LGBTQ+/Same Gender Loving community.
Written by Smollett and Hardy, the pic explores the love and life of a middle class, politically conscious magazine editor Mitchell Crawford (Richardson) and a Harlem born and bred ruff-neck bike messenger Raheim (Mackie). Ledisi will Crawford’s mother Ann Walker, while Evans is Mitchell’s assistant, Michi.
Rounding out the cast are Broderick Hunter, Landon G. Woodson, Michael Jackson, Jr., Marquise Vilson, Jabari Redd, Brian Lucas, Heather B., Erik Williams, Otis Winston, Tiesha Thomas, Jahleel Kamara, Andre Virgo, Bry’Nt Bailey, Ilara Phoenix Williams, and Sampson McCormick.

All week long, Vulture explores what happens to reality-tv contestants after the show ends — and the future of the genre itself. There’s a quote attributed to Albert Einstein that says insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. Well, Einstein never spent a Sunday in his pajamas on the couch surrounded by three Seamless bags, neck-deep in a Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta marathon. If he had, Einstein would know that the real insanity in reality television is that everyone keeps doing the same things, just slightly different enough for us to tune in anyway. What is life post–reality television? More reality television.Once upon a time, when reality TV was first starting in the early '90s, we thought the participants were all there to get attention so they could do other things: Heather B. from the original Real World wanted to be a rapper...

It was the show that changed reality TV forever! Seven complete strangers were picked to live in a house and have their lives filmed for all to see. And did we mention the rules? They were told to "stop being polite and start getting real." Yes, we're talking about MTV's The Real World series. More than two decades after the first season aired, original members Norman Korpi, Julie Gentry and Heather B. Gardner are sitting down in the very same New York City building they filmed in for more than three months. As it turns out, everything is still so real. "We shot this show for 13 weeks," Gardner shared on Sunday's new episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?...

Reality TV changed forever back in 1992, when MTV premiered the first season of "The Real World."Before it became a debaucherous series filled with alcohol-induced hot tub make out sessions and over-the-top brawls, the show was a social experiment that tackled everything from race to sexuality in a way that hadn't really been done before for young audiences. With Season 30 making its debut on the network last night (yes, 30!), three stars from the show's first season returned to their now-infamous loft 22 years later.Heather B., Norman Korpi and Julie Gentry reunited for this Sunday's "Oprah: Where Are They Now?," airing Sunday, December 21 at 9pm Et/Pt on Own: Oprah Winfrey Network.MTV VJ Jesse Camp Resurfaces -- See Him Now!"We shot this show for 13 weeks. We lived here, we hung out, we talked, we cried, we partied, we fought," Heather says in the preview clip. "Eric [Nies] told us...

This is the true story… about the original cast members of MTV's The Real World returning to their New York City loft this Sunday, Dec. 21, on Own. The cast that comprised of seven strangers — Norman Korpi, Julie Gentry, Becky Blasband, Kevin Powell, Andre Comeau, Heather Gardner, and Eric Nies — made history in 1992, when the first season of The Real World debuted. A phenom when it first aired, the series spawned 29 additional season in other cities, plus spin-offs, including Road Rules and The [...]...

MTV is doing a blessed thing. With "RetroMTV," the network will be replaying three of the finest seasons of The Real World starting this Friday and continuing throughout Sunday, including the first New York season, the San Francisco season with Pedro Zamora, and the first Las Vegas season with Trishelle Cannatella. I hope that sentence filled you with the adrenaline of a thousand jars of stolen peanut butter, because I'm tweaking over here.
It's all in anticipation for The Real World: Portland, which begins March 27.
This happy occasion proves the opportunity for another: Let's create a Real World supergroup, an ideal cast composed of seven of the best housemates in the show's history. I'm basing my picks on the cast archetypes that are most important to me, but if you come up with your own casts in the comments, feel free to change the categories to your liking.

"The Real World" returns for its 27th (!) season tonight on MTV -- introducing the world to seven more "strangers," this time against the gorgeous backdrop of St. Thomas.Hard to believe the first season of the show, "Real World: New York," aired waaaaaay back in 1992, years before it was the debaucherous but totally engrossing hot tub & hookup show it is today. Before tonight's big premiere, we wanted to take a look back at the stars from the show's first 12 seasons on the air. What are notable housemates Heather B. from L.A., Puck from San Fran, Hawaii's Ruthie, Seattle's hunky David and and Danny from New Orleans up to today? And which two former stars ended up marrying Hollywood actors?Check out the gallery above to find out! Read more...

Heather B. has reported in with more info on what went down at the New York Comic Con relating to The Thing prequel after chatting a bit with director Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr.; producers Eric Newman and Marc Abraham; and stars Ulrich Thomsen, Eric Christian Olsen, and Joel Edgerton. Mary Elizabeth Winstead didn't attend as she was off getting married instead (the nerve!).
The trailer they debuted, which mainly showed "short glimpses of snowy action sequences with very little dialogue to go along with it [but] plenty of screaming and explosions" (according to Cinema Blend), was the first time the cast saw the monster with its CGI enhancements. On set the monster was comprised of practical motorized parts, and the actors were grateful not to have to react to just a tennis ball.
The producers said they were big fans of the original and looked in the catalogue to see what they wanted to remake.

Tuesday night (July 13), as you're probably aware, MTV's "The Hills" wrapped up its triumphant six-season run. And while it's probably too early to start talking about legacies, that's exactly what we've been doing in the MTV Newsroom, debating where the show fits in the canon of reality television. Some said it's the most influential show of its ilk, others disagreed, citing "The Real World," which, while a very different show from "The Hills," is also a prime contender for the crown. The back-and-forth was so heavy, in fact, that we decided to have two of our most vocal writers — MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson and Rock Editor James Montgomery — continue the discussion here on the Web site. Here's their point/counterpoint about the legacy of "The Hills."

MTV Shows We loved the first season of Jersey Shore, but being the fickle a-holes that we are we assumed the second season was going to be a maj let down, a la every season of the Real World after Heather B., Julie and Norm true storied it up. But we plopped down in front of the new trailer today and were pleasantly surprised in that ‘f*ck yes, this rules our life!’ sort of way. While it doesn’t hurt our vagina (apparently only sex with Vinnie or riding on a dog sculpture could do that) we, like Snooki, “like it.” And now, 5 things we learned from watching the 2 minutes and 13 seconds of heaven, above. 1. We are going to get sick of that ear poisoning “I’m In Miami Bitch” song all over again: Lmfao is Ltfao at us right now. 2. Vinnie’s dick is this season’s duck...

I’m not a huge fan of reality TV, particularly on MTV. I lost interest in the genre after the first season of The Real World (you remember, with Julie the Southern girl and Heather B. and that model dude and the other guy). But I’ll be tuning into MTV tonight to catch my new favorite reality show about a washed-up celebrity letting camera crews tape his humiliating attempts to get back on top. I’m referring, of course, to Warren the Ape, the latest spin-off of Greg the Bunny, the brilliant puppet act that’s been bouncing around...

As you've likely heard by now, the Federal Trade Commission is trying to reign in freebie-grabbing bloggers and graft-happy social media users masquerading as unbiased critics. The agency announced an update to the FTC Act of 1980, the requisite guidelines for consumer endorsements and testimonials. For many, the takeaway has been this: Bloggers Must Disclose Every Single Freebie Sent to Them From Companies--or Pay an $11,000 Fine. Scary.
Pundits quickly bashed the FTC as an old-economy regulator trying to legislate new-media technology. Few considered that the government may actually try to protect consumers from false advertising or bloggers on the take. It's "insanity and inanity. And danger," wrote blogger Jeff Jarvis. "The regulations raise no end of questions."
We asked a few other prominent bloggers what their biggest concerns were about the news, then we solicited responses to those concerns from Richard Cleland, assistant director, division of advertising practices at the FTC.
