"Beware - even those who look innocent can be dangerous." Vertical Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for an indie crime mystery thriller titled The Host, the feature directorial debut of TV director Andy Newbery. There have been at least two other major films with the name The Host, including Bong Joon-ho's monster movie, and also the sci-fi flick from Andrew Niccol. Can we stop using this especially bland title, please? Newbery's The Host is about a London banker who risks everything taking on a job carrying a briefcase to Amsterdam. "But all is not as it seems in a city veiled by dark secrets. Fuelled by power players, drugs, seduction and violence Robert awaits his turn in a deadly game of choice and consequence." Starring Maryam Hassouni, Mike Beckingham, Dougie Poynter, Nigel Barber, & Suan-Li Ong. Watch out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Andy Newbery's The Host, direct...

Disaster strikes a downtown skyscraper when a gas leak causes a ferocious explosion setting ablaze the towering mass of metal and glass. On the 60th floor Brianna (Forlani) and Tom (Bamber) a couple in the middle of a divorce settlement are forced to work together to help save their two children, Anne and Ben, who are both trapped in the building’s elevator hovering 20 stories above ground. Together Brianna and Tom must fight to stay alive while teaming up to save their children and escape the towering inferno.
Hmmmm, Inferno: Skyscraper Escape? Sounds very much like a product of The Asylum, timed to cash in on That other big-budget Skyscraper movie releasing in July. It’s not though.

"To find our place in the universe, we must venture beyond our boundaries." Gravitas Ventures debuted this full trailer for the space sci-fi The Beyond, one of the first features from Hasraf 'HaZ' Dulull, who got his start making cool sci-fi short films on Vimeo. We featured a teaser trailer for this earlier in the year, but the film has undergone extensive reshoots and re-edits, and this new trailer is a better look at what HaZ has cooked up. The Beyond is a low-budget sci-fi somewhat based on the idea first introduced in his short Project Kronos - first contact. It's about astronauts going through a wormhole ("The Void") to another part of the universe, who return early, and now everyone wants to know what they found on the other side. The cast includes Nigel Barber, Jane Perry, Brian Deacon, and David Bailie. Sci-fi geeks need to see this. Here's...

I've got a cool trailer for an upcoming indie sci-fi film being made called The Beyond. It looks like an interesting sci-fi thriller that's might be worth checking out. The film was written and directed by Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dullul, who is a veteran VFX artist that worked on The Dark Knight.
The Beyond is based on Dullul’s 2014 short film Project Kronos, which you can watch here. The feature film was announced four years ago, and it's cool to see that it's being released! I really enjoyed the short and I'm looking forward to seeing this feature-length version of it.
The story chronicles a space agency of the near future and its first contact with intelligent life on an interstellar space mission. The astronauts embark on this mission using advances robotics and they travel through a newly discovered wormhole known as the Void.
According to the press release:
Dullul self produced,...

One Man, One Mission, One Choice. If you haven't already seen this trailer, it might be worth checking out. Capsule is an indie film about Britain's first manned mission to space. It's not actually a true story (as they never sent anyone into space at that time), so this technically counts as "sci-fi", but considering it plays very much like a real thriller that's probably how it should be categorized. Edmund Kingsley plays Guy Taylor, the first British pilot ever sent up into space in 1959, but his capsule malfunctions and he starts to suffer from hypoxia (oxygen deprivation). The cast includes Lisa Greenwood, David Wayman, Nigel Barber and Michael Koltes. This looks like a nice contained thriller, there's just something off about it. See below. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Andrew Martin's Capsule, found direct on YouTube: The year is 1959. It is the height of the Cold War.

Roger Corman and folks at The Asylum have a lot to answer for… That’s all I’m saying.
Sharknado. A film that proved you don’t have to have a lot of money or great CGI to pull in an audience on the Syfy channel. All you need is a giant creature and a ridiculous concept! Since the debut of That film, it seems like Syfy have greenlit any and all monster movie scripts that they’re sent. Hence we come to Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
A few years ago the idea of these two monster-movie franchises coming together – especially given they weere originally made by two different studios (Lake Placid was a Fox production, whilst...
