Suri Cruise has lived in the lap of luxury for most of her six years of life. She's got multiple homes, expensive designer clothes, bodyguards galore, the use of a private jet -- everything a six-year-old style icon could possibly desire. Since Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, though, Katie's been determined to give Suri a more normal existence.
This fall, Suri will enter school for the first time. Of course, she's attending the posh girls' school Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City, which boasts alumni like Lady Gaga, Madonna's daughter Lourdes Benedicto, and a handful of Kennedys -- but it's a far cry from the home-schooling she's received thus far.
But before school begins on in the first week of September, Suri has been enjoying her remaining days of freedom, just being a regular kid with her mom. Katie took Suri to her hometown of Toledo,...

It took a full century since Edgar Rice Burroughs created the character in 1912, but "John Carter" is finally slicing, dicing and leaping his way through Martian bad guys to a theater near you via the magic (and deep pockets) of Walt Disney Pictures.
But wait, what's that you say? "John Carter isn't a soldier transported to Mars, he's an emergency room doctor in Chicago!" Them's fightin' words.
To clear up confusion and dishonor, we're pitting Taylor Kitsch's John Carter against Noah Wyle's John Carter from the long-running NBC show "ER." These two had better draw their swords/scalpels and get ready for one serious showdown.

Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, The Avengers and – SuperMoms? Yes, and it’s as silly as it sounds. Joey Lauren Adams, Julie Warner, Lourdes Benedicto and Brennen Hesser join forces to bring the SuperMoms to life, a group of moms who are struck by lightning and left with superpowers that they use to, well, in the first episode, battle a band of stinky skunks. The pieces are also being syndicated across the Joost Media Network. Each episode features the moms in the real world, but then, when duty calls, they...

RedLever studios and Emmy Award-winning producer Jonathan Prince launched web series SuperMoms on Facebook and Joost today. The series stars Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy, The Break-Up), Julie Warner (Nip/Tuck, Tommy Boy), Lourdes Benedicto (V, 24) and Brennen Hesser (So noTORIous)—four women who are not only super moms but actual superheroes, faced with the challenges of both dirty diapers and dirty tricks from their arch-enemy, Dr. Deconstructo. The show also features football and reality star, Hank Baskett, as the "man behind a SuperMom." The eight episode series features a retro-style (reminiscent of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) that blends live-action and animated superhero story lines, with new episodes debuting Tuesdays on Facebook. The series—not-so-subtly sponsored by Clorox—successfully targets its demographic, shrewdly identifying favorite topics of momdom: blind dates, girl talk, cats, mother-in-laws, makeovers, and, of course, firemen (...and "epic battles against chaos," too). But SuperMoms also reinforces some...

When the new version of V first showed up, I was surprisingly hopeful. Back when it was simply a theory, I had little interest in a reboot of the camp alien drama, especially since reworking anything that Marc Singer has been a part of is pure folly. Like many of our recent trips back to the ’80s, there is too serious an air at work here, but the first few episodes were actually rather interesting. After that, the ratings proved that there was a market for the show, and that it was doing a fair job living up to whatever expectations had drawn viewers in.
While there are a variety of twists to the original story, the heart of the matter is the same, and the general architecture of the first season’s plot closely resembles the main points of the original. Aliens come to Earth with smiling faces, faces...

Chicago – Why do so many modern TV dramas fail? I suspect that part of the reason lies in the fact that a lot of these shows bend over backwards to be a major television event before they’ve earned that right. They cloak themselves in faux commentary merely so they can become mechanical fodder for water cooler discussion the morning after. That’s why the vast majority of new TV dramas might as well be called, “The Event.”
The most interesting thing about “V” is that it ended up becoming an entirely different event than the one it was intended to be. Based on the 1983 miniseries and subsequent series of the same name, “V” utilizes science fiction tropes to create an overarching metaphor for fascism. The plot centers on alien invaders who promise peace to Earthlings while slowly gaining control over all aspects of society. Though the executive producers clearly...

The Visitors have arrived. They are now among us. Simultaneously appearing in every major city in the world, they promote a message of peace; they want to share their extensive knowledge of technology and their concept of absolute world unity, a view that the world should not be constricted by division. And to do so, they are counting on an important component of human nature: devotion. But what is their ultimate plan for the human race? One thing is certain; every person’s life will change as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. With the uncovering of experimentation on humans and the plot of a biological threat looming on the horizon, things are not as they seem.

More things happened in the season finale of V than in every other episode of the first season combined. That’s a good thing. V definitely needs to inject some adrenaline into its reptile heart, now that it’s won the “hey, it’s more popular than FlashForward” sweepstakes and will be coming back for a second season. You could still argue that about half the characters in the main cast are extraneous, but you have to admit that the cliffhanger ending left you just a little bit interested in seeing where they take things in season 2.

V’s first season comes to a close tonight, hot on the tail of ABC’s official renewal of the series for mid-season. One of the most compelling story threads is the hybrid pregnancy between Visitor turned human sympathizer Ryan (Played by Morris Chestnut) and his human wife Val (Lourdes Benedicto). The pregnancy has progressed at an accelerated pace and at the end of last week’s episode of V we caught word that Val’s water had broken. Adding to the complications is the fact that Val has caught wind of Ryan’s non-human status and is in fear for her life. With his human wife in hiding, Ryan’s humanity has become more and more tentative.
I had the chance to talk with Morris Chestnut, and I asked him if he thought Ryan’s humanity was slipping away. “It would be fair, and accurate to say that. It...

The aliens came and, despite some ratings challenges, they are staying -- for at least one more season. ABC has renewed the V TV show for a second season.
Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they've come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.

Executive producer Scott Rosenbaum of the ABC alien invasion remake “V” reveals key points for the last three episodes of the show’s freshman season. This season will close with the highly anticipated birth of the human-alien hybrid baby and major plot developments for key characters. Anna, leader of the V’s, wants the abomination of a baby destroyed. How will the war begin? Here are highlights from an interview Rosenbaum gave to TV Guide recently. Warning: There are spoilers to follow!
The Hybrid Baby Birth – Val (Lourdes Benedicto) and Ryan’s (Morris Chestnut) baby is born
Rosenbaum: “You’ll see what the baby looks like in the finale. It’s going to be more alien than human. The birth is going to become a big deal because it’s complicated. Also, Anna will have become aware of the birth, so it will not happen behind her back. The birth...

To give credit where it is due, I have to say that I really like this revamp of “V”. I only vaguely remember the original series but so far I think that the new version is an improvement on the original, and not only because of the vastly improved special effects. The storyline is strong enough to keep the interest of the general viewer, not just sci-fi heads like me, and the characters are well-conceived. Although “V” may not make the same kind of splash that it did years ago, it absolutely fits into the mainstream of current television programming. The title of this week’s episode refers to the rather nasty-looking instrument that the somewhat sadistic Hobbes (Charles Mesure) took pleasure in using upon the Visitors’ human assassin, Barnes, but it could have just as easily been called “It’s All About the Hybrid”. Val (Lourdes Benedicto) and Ryan...

The iconic scene from the original “V” television series from the eighties of the birth of the alien babies is something people don’t forget. How is the current “V” series remake going to take this on? Val, played by Lourdes Benedicto, will give birth soon enough. Benedicto talks Val’s birthing her human-alien hybrid baby and how this baby will change her character’s life:
“By the end of the season, she is going to have the baby. It’s more on the real side of things. It’s going to play closer to what we know to be the birth of a baby, though it does have a tail.”
“She’s going to have to make the decisions of what this baby means to her and whether she’s willing to fight for it or not. Val is going to get thrown into this world of Vs coming after her,...

Lourdes Benedicto has revealed that her upcoming birth scene in V is different from the one in the original show. Benedicto's character Val is currently expecting a baby with her fiancé Ryan (Morris Chestnut) but is unaware that he is a Visitor. "By the end of the season, she is going to have the baby," she told TV Guide. "It's more on the real side of things [compared to the original series]. It's going to play closer to what we know to be the birth of a baby, though it does have a tail. Hopefully it's better." Benedicto added that Val will soon discover that Ryan is really an alien. This story contains spoilers for upcoming episodes of "V" on ABC. One storyline that won't be turned into a cliffhanger on ABC's "V" is that of what exactly is crawling around inside Val's belly. Lourdes Benedicto, who plays Val in the ABC series, told TVGuide.com that fans won't have to wait to get their first look at her half-Visitor, half-human spawn. In fact, viewers will get their first glimpse of the little tyke by the end of the season in May. This slightly mirrors a storyline from the original 1980s version of the series, when a human mother gave birth to an obvious visitor, complete with tail and hissing tongue. The only difference this time around is that it won't be as science-fiction like. "It's more on the real side of things," Benedicto said. "It's going to play ...

With a title like "We Can't Win," we know that something's going to drastically change in the eighth episode of V. The episode will not only contain the first meeting of two of our main characters, but it will also feature Chad, Anna, and several other Vs doing something that looks important. That something important is the U.N. energy summit, where Anna is "going to present a gift of technology to the world." Knowing the Vs like we do, that can't be good. It's probably a power grab. Here's the press release for episode eight, "We Can't Win," followed by a gallery of promotional photos. This will also be the first episode in a while not to feature Georgie — which doesn't sound good for his character in next week's episode, "John May." It sounds very, very, bad…

If V were a child, it would be an alien-human hybrid toddler who scores extremely well on aptitude tests but suffers from severe personality disorders because of emotionally distant parents. V was supposed to stand next to FlashForward in ABC's beautiful dream of a schedule full of fan-crazy serialized shows, big-myth sci-fi headtrips that could replace the outgoing Lost. Perhaps because FlashForward had some questionable opening numbers, production on V shut down for a full month, with a planned four-month break to come after just four episodes. It was a weird way to launch a show, and it looked even...

Three new faces have been added to ABC's new version of V. Can they, or anyone else, help save the show from cancellation?
Like the original NBC version, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they've come in peace, their sinister true motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
According to TV Guide, the new performers are Charles Mesure, Nicholas Lea, and Lexa Doig. All three are familiar faces to fans of cancelled sci-fi shows.
UK actor Charles Mesure has appeared on Xena: Warrior Princess and NBC's Crossing Jordan. He'll play a recurring role as Kyle Hobbes, a mercenary who forms an unlikely alliance with the resistance.

Though the television networks don't seem to notice, remakes of old series rarely meet with much success. While shows like Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, and Melrose Place bring name recognition, they rarely live up to expectations. Still, ABC moved ahead with their plans to revive V.
