Los Angeles, CA, Sept. 23, 2010 – The Independent Film & Television Alliance (Ifta), the trade association representing independent producers and distributors worldwide, today announced its new Executive Committee and Board of Directors. The elections were held as part of the Ifta’s annual members meeting, which took place today at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City. The Alliance’s seven-member Executive Committee is headed by Ifta Chairman Lloyd Kaufman (Troma Entertainment), who was re-elected last September and is serving the second year in his term. Consolidation is the name of the game everywhere in the movie business these days.
Mark Gill's independent film company, The Film Department, has decided to hand international sales duties to The Weinstein Company after Steve Bickel, who was president of international, exited the company this week, the company confirmed.
The relationships between the parties are old and storied.

Mark Gill and Neil Sacker's financing and production banner is pacting with the Weinstein Co. to handle international sales, with the latter firm's David Glasser running point on those responsibilities.
As part of the shift, Film Department international sales topper Steve Bickel is leaving; international vp Kristen Figeroid and vp international affairs Inc Pagliuca will remain.
The deal will give the Film Department access to the Weinstein Co.'s global network of buyers, with the mini-major seeing Film Department titles as a complement to its prestige and specialized pics.
"Their slate is very mainstream, and that's a perfect fit with our product," Glasser said.
The Film Department has "Law Abiding Citizen" in theaters, completed production on the Catherine Zeta-Jones romantic comedy "The Rebound" and is near completion on the Kate Hudson dramedy "Earthbound."

Troma Entertainment president Lloyd Kaufman has been re-elected to a second two-year term as chairman of the Independent Film & Television Alliance, the 150-member trade group comprising indie film and TV producers.
Kaufman vowed to continue his efforts on behalf of such issues as net neutrality, which is before the FCC.
Also elected to two-year terms on IFTA's executive committee were Imagination Worldwide's Pierre David, named general vice chairperson, and Summit Entertainment's Brad Kembel, vice chairperson/secretary.

NEW YORK -- Catherine Zeta-Jones will star in Bart Freundlich's new May-December romantic comedy for Mark Gill and Neil Sacker's Film Dept. production outfit.
In the untitled feature, Zeta-Jones will play a single New York City mom who captures the eye of her new neighbor, a 25-year-old man. The project seems to mirror real life for the 38-year-old Freundlich, who's married to the 47-year-old Julianne Moore.
The film is set to shoot April 17, and casting hasn't been finalized for the male lead.
Tim Perell, Freundlich, Gill and Robert Katz are producing under the Process production banner. Sacker and Michael Goguen are the executive producers.
The film is one of the first for president Steve Bickel's Film Department Int'l, which will unveil its debut lineup at May's Festival de Cannes, along with the upcoming thriller Law Abiding Citizen starring Gerard Butler and other titles.
It also marks one of the first big deals for Cinetic Media's new management division headed by Bart Walker, who reps Freundlich and Perell.

Bickel, who starts Monday, replaces Elizabeth Kim and reports to company founders Mark Gill and Neil Sacker.
Bickel comes from Aura Entertainment, where he was president since 2001. In that role, he also served as executive producer of The Big Empty and Blind Dating and as producer of Love Comes to the Executioner.
A financing, production and international sales company, the Film Department plans to finance and produce six films per year budgeted at $10 million-$45 million.

The Independent Film & Television Alliance, formerly known as AFMA, announced a new executive committee and board of directors Thursday. Michael Ryan of IAC Film & Television, who was elected in September 2003 and is serving his second term, will serve as chairman of IFTA's executive committee. The panel's newly elected members are Lewis Horwitz of Horwitz Entertainment Financial Services, Mark Damon of Media 8 Entertainment, Barbara Mudge of Worldwide Film Entertainment and Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Entertainment. Steve Bickel of Aura Entertainment and Robert Meyers of Meyers Film Entertainment are in the second year of two-year terms.

Jeremy Renner, who recently starred in Columbia Pictures' actioner S.W.A.T., has signed on to topline Love Comes to the Executioner for writer-director Kyle Bergersen. The Aura Entertainment project is due to start shooting later this month in Montana. Executioner centers on a recent college graduate who becomes the star executioner at the local prison where his brother (Renner) is slated to die. The executioner's morality collides with his genetic destiny on death row when he finds an unconventional true love in his brother's incarcerated ex-girlfriend. Other casting is expected to be announced shortly. Doug Draizin and Steve Bickel are producing. Renner starred in the title role of the indie Dahmer, a part that landed him a best male lead nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards for the March ceremony. He recently wrapped the indie Neo Ned opposite Gabrielle Union. Renner is repped by WMA, the Untitled Entertainment/Parseghian-Planco management outfit and Nelson-Felker.
