This post contains spoilers for "Reacher" season 2, episode 7.
Jack Reacher has never been one to abide by the rules. In Lee Child's "Persuader," the seventh novel in the "Jack Reacher" series, Reacher goes out of his way to work for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to crack down on a trafficker, deliberately breaking a handful of official rules just to do the right thing. This kernel of dogged perseverance has always been an integral part of Reacher's personality in every iteration of his character, and "Reacher" season 2 continues this tradition by allowing him to break the rules yet again.
In "Reacher" season 2's seventh and penultimate episode, Reacher and his team — his colleagues at the 110th Special Investigations Unit years ago — are backed against the wall thanks to the machinations of Shane Langston (Robert Patrick) and the elusive A.M. (Ferdinand Kingsley). In the previous episode, "New York's Finest,...

Gear up for a new season of Amazon’s breakout action hit Reacher, which is based on the popular novels by Lee Child that served as the basis for Tom Cruise’s attempted franchise, Jack Reacher. Although Cruise’s film adaptation was able to capitalize with the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Prime Video’s Reacher series aimed to stick closer to the novels and presents a new case for each season. For example, major characters from season one, like Roscoe and Oscar Finlay, will not play prominent roles in this season. Prime Video has just released the teaser for tomorrow’s premiere for the trailer to season 2 of the Alan Ritchson-starring drama.
According to ScreenRant, “Reacher season 2 will be based on Child’s book Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the ongoing series. In the book, Reacher is contacted by someone from his former military unit,...

Almost exactly one year after Kevin Smith sold his horror anthology Killroy Was Here as an Nft (with the Ashley Benson slasher Alone at Night following in his footsteps soon after), Variety reports that XYZ Films has picked up the domestic distribution rights to another film that blends horror with crypto. Thankfully, this one isn’t being sold as an Nft, it will be heading out into the world in a more traditional way. The new movie is called The Deep Web: Murdershow and it will take viewers on a dark ride when a journalist’s search for clues to his sister’s murder leads him to a disturbing crypto currency torture website inside the deep web called The Murdershow. As those close to him disappear, he must find and stop this reign of terror.

“That lady is wearing a wig!” is the first thought that comes to me at the start of Parallel… Shortly thereafter, the film throws up an interesting conceit and, aside from the wig, this film is extremely professionally made. It is a sci-fi mind bender with similar ambition to Looper.
A group of friends have created a parking app, and they are trying to seal the big deal, but it all goes wrong, and they lose out. The banter among the gang is believable and funny. The characters are likable and believable as people. There is a bouncy, fun, Ocean’s 11 vibe to a lot of the gang’s hijinks.

Matt Damon ‘Elysium’ movie box office: weekend leader? Directed by the widely acclaimed District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp, the R-rated futuristic sociopolitical thriller Elysium, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, should have no trouble landing in the top spot at the North American box office this weekend. According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, on Friday, August 9, 2013, Elysium took in $11.2 million from 3,284 locations, including $1.6 million from Thursday night / midnight shows. (Photo: Matt Damon in Elysium.) Up until Friday night, some pundits believed that Disney’s animated feature Planes might be a threat to Elysium, as it’s a "family movie" — i.e., adults must accompany little children to theaters, which means extra ticket sales especially on the weekend proper. And as a box-office plus, Planes is in 3D, which means surcharges. But after Planes‘ definitely earthbound box-office performance on Friday — an estimated $8.1 million — it became clear that the weekend would belong to Elysium.

‘Elysium’ 2013 movie: The domestic weekend box office leader? (Photo: bald, tattooed, shirtless Matt Damon in ‘Elysium’) So far, there are only guesstimates out there regarding this weekend’s domestic box office. Directed by District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp, the R-rated futuristic sociopolitical thriller Elysium, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, is expected to collect around $30-$35 million from 3,284 locations by Sunday evening, after grossing an estimated $1.6 million from Thursday night screenings. Anything below $30 million will be quite disappointing, considering that the Tri-Star / Sony Pictures-distributed Elysium cost a reported $115 million. For comparison’s sake, M. Night Shyamalan / Will Smith’s $130 million-budgeted After Earth, another futuristic thriller distributed by Sony, debuted with a highly disappointing $27.52 million in late May / early June. After Earth cumed with a ridiculously low $60.27 million in North America — but has been rescued by the international market, where big-budget actioners usually fare remarkably well: $184.21 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

‘Elysium’: Contemporary parallels and class warfare (photo: Jodie Foster as Delacourt in ‘Elysium’) (See previous post: “Elysium: Movie Review Pt.1.”) Neill Blomkamp, who also wrote Elysium, pushes the contemporary parallels right to the edge of being ham-fisted. The station’s shoot-to-kill defensive systems are under the command of Delacourt (Jodie Foster), who refers to the Spanish-fluent refugees attempting to breach Elysium as “immigrants.” The poor clamoring for access to the medpods installed in every Elysium home essentially constitute the rich being asked to pay for everyone else’s health care. And that’s not an unreasonable idea given conditions on terra firma so inadequate that after Max gets beaten up by the cops on his way to work, he’s evaluated by a comically indifferent, robot caregiver. By the time Max enters Elysium with his gun-toting cohorts, class warfare doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. As with District 9,...
