- Had a brilliant career as a soccer player, winning the domestic double with Tottenham Hotspur in the early 60s. He won many honours in football and was captain of his home nation side, Northern Ireland, representing them in the World Cup. In his later career he went on to manage Chelsea Football Club.
- Was to be the recipient of the This Is Your Life (1955) red book on 6th February 1961, but refused to take part.
- Elder brother of fellow footballer Jackie Blanchflower.
- Played 56 times for Northern Ireland (1949 to 1963) and scored 2 goals.
- Won FA cup with Tottenham Hotspur, 1961 and 1962.
- 337 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur in English First division (1954 to 1964), scored 15 goals.
- Won English championship with Tottenham Hotspur in 1961.
