Columbia Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has pushed up its release date by one week, from March 29 to March 22, 2024, Sony announced on Tuesday.
The move positions the film to capitalize on another week of spring break viewership in a fairly open window, opening against Lionsgate’s Mark Wahlberg adventure pic Arthur the King and Focus Features’ The American Society of Magical Negroes, among other titles.
Set to screen in IMAX and premium large formats, the latest picture in the storied Ghostbusters franchise watches as the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

The “Ghostbusters” franchise has proven to be unkillable, thanks to the 2021 film “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” breathing a fresh take in the beloved canon.
Now, the sequel “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” marks the return of reboot characters the Spengler family, played by matriarch Carrie Coon, “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard, and Grace Mckenna. Paul Rudd is back as teacher Gary Grooberson, who helped the Spenglers discover why supernatural occurrences were taking place after moving into a new house. The tie to the original 1984 “Ghostbusters,” complete with the Spengler family connection, also saw the return of stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts.

Jason Reitman has set another feature at Sony Pictures, with the studio ordering a film based on the first broadcast of “Saturday Night Live” in October 1975.
Reitman and his “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” co-writer Gil Kenan penned the original screenplay for the project, drawing from the pair’s series of interviews with living cast, writers and crew members from the original production.
The untitled “SNL” feature continues Reitman and Kenan’s partnership with Sony Pictures, where they are currently in production on a sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” due to release in theaters this December. Kenan is directing the follow-up to Reitman’s 2021 entry of the sci-fi comedy series. The two collaborators signed an overall producing deal with Sony after the release of “Afterlife,” which grossed $204 million at the global box office against a $75 million production budget.
Reitman and Kenan will also produce the “SNL” feature, alongside regular partners Jason Blumenfeld and Erica Mills.

The sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife is moving forward and a new director is taking the helm.
After successfully relaunching the franchise with 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Sony Pictures is ramping up pre-production on the sequel with the film’s writer and exec producer Gil Kenan set to take over directing reigns, Deadline reports.
Sources tell the site that Jason Reitman, who directed the last pic, will move into a producer role alongside Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld.
The Ghostbusters: Afterlife ensemble that includes Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon are on board to return from a script from Kenan and Reitman.
Presumably, this means Mckenna Grace will be back as Afterlife character Phoebe, the grand-daughter of Egon Spengler, although the article does not confirm any returning ‘busters. Finn Wolfhard stars as Phoebe’s brother, Trevor.
Ernie Hudson is said to be returning once again as Winston, who was teased as the Universe’s new centerpiece.

Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” starring Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, along with a quick glimpse at the classic characters played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
Murray, Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ramis were a part of the original 1984 hit, along with its sequel “Ghostbusters II” in 1989. After Ramis’ death in 2014, it was unclear if a third installment with the original cast was going to take place.
Sony produced an all-female reimagining of the film in 2016, starring Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy. After that installment underperformed at the box office, Sony brought on Jason Reitman as co-writer and director for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” who brought in a younger cast and got the original stars to agree to being part of the film.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will also feature Shelby Young and Sarah Natochenny in voice acting roles.

The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is returning to the “Ghostbusters” movie franchise — the time in miniature form.
In a new clip for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” Paul Rudd’s character meets the mini version of the giant monster that terrorized New York in the original 1984 film.
Rudd is seen loading up on ice cream in a grocery store when he decides he needs some toppings. He heads to the aisle where they’re stored, where a Mini-Puft tears itself out of its packaging.
And not just one, as Rudd discovers. Mini-Pufts have run amok in the store, commandeering a robotic floor cleaner. They also appear to be masochists, impaling and setting themselves on fire to create smores. Suffice to say, they’re anything but sweet!

A single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two kids (Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) move to Oklahoma to “pick through the rubble of their grandfather’s life after he died.”
Before you know it, strange rumblings under the ground get everyone on edge, leading to the revelation that the deceased grandfather wasn’t a small-town farmer after all — but was actually Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), and luckily he kept his ghostbusting gear in the shed.

Ghostbusting has left the mean streets of New York City and set up shop in the countryside. Set 30 plus years after the original film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife” stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
But despite the location change, the first Busters Dan Aykroyd and original film director Ivan Reitman, are heavily involved with this franchise restart with Reitman’s son Jason at the helm as the new director.
This new “chapter” in the Ghostbusters universe unveils a sort of supernatural peace that has settled across the globe after ghostly chaos reigned in the 80s. Here’s the plot: “A single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”
In the first ever “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” trailer the kids seem blissfully unaware of the Slimers and Gozers of the past,...

Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters” sequel and reboot has a new title ahead of a trailer set to drop on Monday. “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will open in theaters July, 10, 2020.
Reitman takes over directing duties from his father Ivan Reitman, and the new film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
Vanity Fair had a first look at Rudd, Wolfhard and Grace in the film, which is set in modern day and ties back into the “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984,” or the giant cataclysm that the Ghostbusters had to stop and that spawned a giant marshmallow man demolishing New York.

Now Rudd’s students, played by Wolfhard and Grace, seem to think the whole thing was a myth or a legend, and Rudd, who only remembers the event from being a child, is finding it hard to believe the Ghostbusters were ever real.

From a young age, Ian Seabrook knew he wanted to be an underwater photographer. He made his first dive in 1988; a decade later, he filmed underwater for the first time on a Bud Lite commercial.
His work now spans three decades of television and studio productions, and this year, several big-budget films and TV shows feature his photography. They include “Deadpool 2,” which is being released May 18; episodes of Netflix’s “Lost in Space” revamp; TNT’s “Snowpiercer”; and the recently released “Tully,” from screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman.
On “Tully,” Seabrook had his work cut out for him. The story follows an exhausted mom of three, played by Charlize Theron. Reitman had never directed underwater scenes but was eager to learn the techniques that Seabrook has perfected over the years. Prior to shooting those sequences, which feature Theron and co-star Mackenzie Davis underwater in a car, Reitman met with Seabrook,...

Chicago – “Labor Day” is certainly a change of shade for writer/director Jason Reitman, who previously unearthed the humor in his American character dramas, however dark their content (such as with the dark but funny soul erosion of Charlize Theron’s non-matured mean girl in “Young Adult”). In this tale of an unexpected family unit, he doesn’t find humor but instead a thoroughly gray compassion.
In a film that begins as an uneasy thriller and ends as a delicate (if sometimes too wistful) romance story sweetened by Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, the audience is on-board nonetheless throughout its shifts.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
As shown in movies like “Up in the Air” and “Young Adult,” Reitman is strong at creating sympathy for his characters, despite their often potentially disagreeable features. He finds that here with his tragic criminal, played gently by Brolin, and is able that to parallel that with the...

Jason Reitman‘s fifth feature film, Labor Day, hits theaters this Friday, but while I haven’t seen it yet the advance word has been a far cry from the critical acclaim his movies usually receive. To be fair, it’s also by all accounts a different beast from Reitman’s previous films as it concentrates more on the drama than on the acerbic, darkly comedic wit. It’s for this reason that I decided to go back a few years to Reitman’s last film, the blackly comic, emotionally tragic, and sadly under-seen Young Adult, for this week’s commentary listen. Well, that and the fact that one of the best films to play this year’s Sundance, Listen Up Philip, reminded me positively of it. Both movies are excellent entries in the canon of “asshole cinema” in that their lead characters are irredeemable pricks struggling to conceal their humanity and causing all manner of hilarity...

Up in the Air is one of the best looking movies on Blu-ray that I have seen this year. That may sound surprising given that it is not a special effects bonanza. From the opening sequence of aerial images to the final credits, though, this film is literally a picture of clarity in high-definition. It is not just the imagery that is sharp, too. Aside from a few brief lulls, the script is witty, original and touching, the dialogue is natural and convincing and the acting is top drawer. All that is missing from this release is some in-depth bonus features. A film of this quality cries out for more background material. The lack of it is the only thing that might stop Up in the Air from being one of my Top 10 Blu-ray releases of 2010.
