British television exec and Power Television founder Justin Bodle has died at age 58. He passed away at his home in the south of France earlier Tuesday.
Bodle started his career at Thames Television selling air time to advertisers before joining Peter Orton’s Hit Entertainment, where Bodle learned the world of international television sales, licensing the Muppets and the Jim Henson catalog around the world. Bodle structured the first ever program barter deal on British television, placing The Muppet Show on Super Channel in 1987.
He subsequently formed Power Television, where he moved into producing high-end drama including the Emmy-winning Henry VIII with Ray Winstone, Archangel with Daniel Craig, Crusoe for NBC and a strand of TV movies for Lifetime.
After selling Power and then buying it back for a short time, Bodle moved his focus full time to producing, most recently shooting a feature film in China.
He is survived by his three children.

London -- Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley are to star in a TV remake of the apocalyptic sci-fi drama "The Day of the Triffids," based on the 1951 John Wyndham classic sci-fi novel.
The two-part apocalyptic drama, scripted by Patrick Harbinson and produced by Power Television and Canadian producer Prodigy Pictures, is in production and will air on BBC1 this year. Rhi Entertainment holds rights for the U.S.
Scott will play Bill Maysen, a doctor who has to lead a band of humans in an epic battle with the Triffids, a flesh-eating vegetable originally used as an energy source. When spectators gather worldwide for a much-anticipated solar storm, billions are left blinded and the few sighted survivors watch as society collapses into chaos.
The Triffids, meanwhile, find their way out of captivity, roaming the planet with a fatal sting, and taste for human flesh.

CANNES -- The news of Leo Kirch's return to the TV business has been the subject of a lot of chatter among European executives at this year's MIPCOM. But the German mogul who never left the scene -- Tele Munchen Group's Herbert Kloiber -- also is making his presence felt.
Kloiber on Tuesday joined forces with German public broadcaster ZDF for a €12 million ($17 million) remake of the Jack London adventure classic "The Seawolf".
U.K. screenwriter Nigel Williams ("Elizabeth I") will pen the script for the two-part miniseries that ZDF, Tele Munchen's production division Clasart and British group Power will co-produce. Power will handle international sales.
Rikolt von Gagern, whose recent film adaptation of Martin Walser's "A Runaway Horse" has been a success for TMG's theatrical arm Concorde in Germany, will produce with Power's Justin Bodle. Kloiber will be lead manager on the project, which will begin shooting in mid-2008.
The original "Seawolf" miniseries in 1971 put TMG on the map in Germany. It was one of the main reasons Kloiber acquired the company in 1977.
Kloiber also was busy in TMG's bread-and-butter business of rights trading. Shortly before MIPCOM, he won a bidding war for three of the hottest new U.S.

LONDON -- U.K. based production house Power has inked a deal with Lionsgate U.K. to secure a theatrical release for Flood, the company's first foray into movie production, it announced Thursday.
The movie will air on commercial net ITV early next year after Lionsgate has rolled it out on a limited release in central London, a Power spokesperson said.
The cast of the $30 million movie, directed by Tony Mitchell, includes Robert Carlyle, Jessalyn Gilsi, David Suchet and Joanne Whalley.
Flood, scripted by Power founder Justin Bodle and Matthew Cope, is based on the book of the same name by Richard Doyle and produced by Bodle and independent producer Peter McAleese. It details the story of the aftermath of a tidal wave that swamps the British capital.
Produced by Power in association with South Africa's Moonlighting Films and Canada's Muse Entertainment Enterprises, Flood was shot last year on location in London and South Africa.
