Misquoted or misspoken? U.K.'s The Guardian is standing by the interview they published on Monday, June 3, in which Michael Douglas talked about his battle with throat cancer and allegedly claimed it was caused via oral sex and the contraction of Hpv. Soon after the interview was released, Douglas's rep, Allen Burry, issued a statement to The Wrap claiming the 68-year-old actor was misquoted. "He did not say cunnilingus was the cause of his cancer," Burry said. "He didn't specifically name a cause." But The Guardian claims that [...]...

On Monday 3 June, the Guardian published an interview with the actor Michael Douglas in which he said that his cancer was "caused by Hpv (human papillomavirus), which actually comes from cunnilingus".
Allen Burry, a spokesman for the actor, has since denied that Douglas said that oral sex was the cause of his own cancer, but was merely one of the many causes of oral cancer. "In a discussion with the newspaper," the Associated Press quotes Burry as saying, "they talked about the causes of oral cancer, one of which was oral sex, which is noted and has been known for a while now."
The Guardian firmly denies this charge of misrepresentation. Mr Burry was not present at the Guardian's interview with Michael Douglas; the only two people present were Mr Douglas and the Guardian writer, Xan Brooks. Here is the audio file of the relevant part of the interview, along...

London — Actor Michael Douglas taught the world at least one thing Monday: oral sex can sometimes cause cancer.
In an interview published in the Guardian newspaper, Douglas appeared to blame his own battle with throat cancer on oral sex – although that interpretation was later disputed by one of his representatives.
The Guardian quoted Douglas as attributing his illness to the Hpv virus spread through oral sex. When asked about his cancer, Douglas said, "without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by Hpv (human papillomavirus), which actually comes from cunnilingus."
In response, spokesman Allen Burry said Douglas never said oral sex was the cause of his own cancer, just one of the many causes.

Michael Douglas' rep says the actor did not say in an interview with the Guardian newspaper that his cancer was caused by cunnilingus. In a story headlined, "Michael Douglas: Oral Sex Caused My Cancer," the "Behind the Candelabra" star appeared to say that he blamed Hpv, which is transmittable through oral sex, for his cancer diagnosis. But Douglas' rep, Allen Burry, told TheWrap that in fact Douglas was saying his type of cancer can be spread through oral sex with a person infected with Hpv -- without saying that that was...

Michael Douglas has thrown his support behind a fundraiser for the Canadian hospital where his throat cancer was finally spotted after a number of misdiagnoses.
The Hollywood star was first examined by doctors in early 2010 after complaining of a sore throat, and he claims he was put on a course of antibiotics after the medics failed to spot the growth.
He then went through "a litany of doctors and tests" before he was eventually diagnosed with throat cancer by physicians at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Canada. He subsequently underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment and was later given the all-clear.
Douglas, who owns a home near Montreal, is now showing his gratitude to the doctors at the hospital by agreeing to appear at a charity fundraiser for the facility's affiliated McGill University's head and neck cancer fund.
Jewish General Hospital spokesman Allen Burry, says, "That's where he found out he had his cancer. He was happy to do it (the fundraiser)."
Dr. Saul Frenkiel, one of the event's organisers, adds, "It was his very gracious offer to help us in view of his own battle with throat cancer... Certainly, Michael Douglas... helps to bring to the attention of the public the need to do important research in the head and neck cancer field. We were very appreciative of his kind support - it was a gracious personal offer and certainly reflected his own inner personality and willingness to help battle head and neck cancer."
The actor and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, are also contributing to an auction at the event by offering up an afternoon of their company playing golf at the local course. The fundraiser takes place in Montreal on 3 May.

Michael Douglas became embroiled in a scuffle with paparazzi in London on Thursday, February 24, after his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones accused one photographer of punching her in the face.
The Hollywood couple had spent the day at royal residence Buckingham Palace, where Zeta-Jones was honored as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Cbe) by Charles, Prince of Wales.
The stars were chauffeured back to their hotel in the British capital, but they encountered trouble as they exited their car and had to fight their way through a horde of snappers waiting at the entrance to their residence.

Michael Douglas pushed a paparazzi photographer into the street after his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones was allegedly "punched" by the snapper. The actor leaped to the defense of his spouse on Thursday night, February 24 as they returned to a London hotel just hours after the actress was presented with a Cbe (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) from Prince Charles for her services to the film industry and charity work.

Michael Douglas' representative has shut down fresh reports suggesting the cancer-stricken actor was recently rushed to hospital after collapsing at his New York home.
The Wall Street star is recovering after completing radiation and chemotherapy treatment for throat cancer last month.
A new tabloid article in the National Enquirer suggests the frail movie star needed medical treatment after falling at his apartment on 29 October, while his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones was away on business in China.
A source tells the publication, "He quickly came to his senses, but knew he needed to get himself checked out. He had a driver take him to Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to see his doctor.
"It was a frightening moment, and he didn't want to worry Catherine... After being examined, Michael was allowed to return home."
But a spokesperson for the ailing Hollywood actor insists there is no truth to the collapse report and says Douglas is continuing on the road to recovery.
The National Enquirer previously alleged Douglas had just three months to live, prompting the actor's spokesman and friend Allen Burry to blast the sick speculation as "really disgusting" and "complete fabrications".

HollywoodNews.com: As he battles throat cancer, Michael Douglas remains an upstanding father, visiting his son Cameron in prison.
Douglas rep Allen Burry told E! that the three-hour commute from Manhattan to the jail in Lewisburg, Pa, where Cameron resides is draining Douglas as he is “recuperating from the [chemotherapy] process”.
“He’s not going every day and not as often as he would like, but he is still visiting with him,” said Burry.
Douglas recently completed chemotherapy after being diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. His son Cameron, 31, is currently serving a five-year sentence for drug possession and dealing.
Overall, it sounds like Douglas is rebounding per Burry: “Obviously he has to recuperate and is not going to be out dancing soon, but he is recovering nicely and no more [treatments] are scheduled.”

Cancer-stricken Michael Douglas made good on his vow to walk the red carpet at the New York premiere of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps on Monday night, joining his castmates and director Oliver Stone to promote the movie.
The veteran star has been undergoing intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment for throat cancer following his diagnosis revelation last month and it had been feared he would be too weak to attend the big unveiling.
Last week (ends17Sep10), his publicist Allen Burry insisted Douglas would make every effort to attend the event, but would evaluate the situation on a "day-to-day" basis.
However, the defiant actor refused to let fans down and stepped out for the Big Apple premiere on Monday, joined by his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
He smiled and waved as he strolled down the red carpet but refused to talk to the press due to the strain the cancer treatment has had on his vocal cords.
And Stone was full of praise for Douglas for taking the time to attend, likening him to his father, Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas.
He says, "It's an amazing act of control, he's courageous. He reminds me of his dad, who I know. Got that strength in character. I'm very disappointed (about the cancer). It's a very hard time for him."
Douglas reprises his role as ruthless bank boss Gordon Gekko in the sequel to the original 1987 film, alongside Shia Labeouf, Josh Brolin and Carey Mulligan.
