Sky is bringing its studios and content divisions together under Cécile Frot-Coutaz.
Frot-Coutaz, who joined the Comcast-owned outfit nearly three years ago, has been promoted and will take on an expanded role as CEO of Sky Studios and Chief Content Officer.
She will lead all of Sky’s content business excluding sport while continuing to helm studios. Sky’s UK and Ireland content teams plus Sky News across Europe will report to Frot-Coutaz, including the likes of Content MD Zai Bennett.
The move comes several weeks after Sky revealed UK and Ireland CEO Stephen van Rooyen would be stepping down at the end of February, leaving Sky’s operations in those countries to report directly to CEO Dana Strong.
Projects currently in development will not be impacted by the changes, we understand, and no layoffs will follow.

Truth is stranger than fiction, so it’s only a matter of time before compelling true stories get turned into narratives. Such is the case with “Three Identical Strangers,” a genuinely hard-to-believe documentary about triplets separated at birth who only learned of their siblings’ existence 20 years later — and the circumstances of their adoption. Raw, which produced Tim Wardle’s acclaimed doc, has announced that it’s partnering with Film4 and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (Ske) on a feature adaptation of the story.
Katherine Butler of Raw said that “this is an incredible series of true events that naturally lends itself to a narrative telling, and we are delighted to be working with Ske and Film4 to bring Robert, David and Eddy’s story to the widest audience possible”
“Robert, David and Eddy’s extraordinary story made a huge impact on me when I saw ‘Three Identical Strangers’ at Sundance,” added Film4’s Daniel Battsek.

Raw, producer of Sundance breakout documentary Three Identical Strangers, is partnering with Film4 and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (Ske) on a narrative feature version of the picture.
The Sundance title, about three strangers who inadvertently discover that they are identical triplets separated at birth, won the festival’s Special Jury Prize for Documentary Storytelling.
Raw, Film4 and Ske will develop the new narrative feature following what they describe as “fierce, multi-studio competitive bidding in the life rights of Robert Shafran and David Kellman,” who are two of the identical triplets at the heart of the documentary.
Raw’s Katherine Butler and Dimitri Doganis and Ske’s Sidney Kimmel and John Penotti will produce the as-yet untitled narrative feature film. Film4’s Daniel Battsek and Sam Lavender, Submarine Entertainment’s Josh Braun and Dan Braun, and the doc’s director Tim Wardle will serve as executive producers. Mark O’Connor will oversee development on behalf of Ske.

Exclusive: Channel Four chief executive discusses Tessa Ross’ departure and future strategy.
Channel 4 chief executive David Abraham has told ScreenDaily that Film4’s formula of supporting a combination of new voices and established indie talent “will remain the same” after Tessa Ross’ departure in September.
Ross’ unexpected departure has prompted a swell of praise for the executive, but also concern from some industry about stability within the broadcaster’s film arm, which is yet to replace deputy head of film Katherine Butler, who departed in February to join indie Raw TV, and is now to lose its figurehead.
“There is no hole to fill,” assured Abraham. “Tessa will be around until September and there is strength and breadth in the team who are currently handling large parts of the slate.”
Abraham said that current and future projects on Film4’s slate would get the team’s full attention during the transition.

Film4 head Tessa Ross’ decision to step down from her job next September (story here) has taken the UK film industry by surprise.
Leading industry figures have been lavish in their praise of Ross’ achievements since she joined Channel 4 in 2000. (She became Head of Film4 in 2003, followed by Controller of Film and Drama in 2008.) Some have also expressed wariness that a period of instability could follow her departure from the Channel.
Oscar winning director Kevin Macdonald, in post-production on Film4-backed The Black Sea and who also has a new feature on the Lockerbie bombing in development at Film4 with producer Christopher Young, acknowledged he had no prior inkling of Ross’ plans. “I only heard this morning. Screen Film Summit: Diversity still a problem in terms of scripts and filmmakers.
“The trend in the last five years is the quality of scripts we’re seeing. There are more viable projects than there were 10 years ago,” said BBC Films commissioning executive Joe Oppenheimer, speaking at the ‘Meet The Funders’ session at Screen International’s Film Summit presented in association with the BFI.
Katherine Butler, deputy head of film at Film4, agreed that they were getting a high quality of projects coming through. “There is a real confidence about the industry right now,” she said.
Lizzie Francke of the BFI Film Fund made the analogy that the Fund was in “a Sophie’s Choice position” having to choose between too many great projects.
Still, improvements can be made as all of the five panellists agreed that diversity is still a problem in the UK film industry. Chris Moll, head of film at Creative England, said: “There...

Exclusive: Details revealed about Ruby Films drama due to shoot February; project moves from Focus.
Pathe has newly boarded Suffragette, the Film4 and BFI-backed Ruby Films drama, which will star Carey Mulligan.
Pathe will distribute the film in the UK and France and will handle international sales.
The film will be directed by Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) from a script by Abi Morgan, who won an Emmy last month for her work on BBC drama series The Hour.
Morgan, who co-wrote sex addict drama Shame with Steve McQueen, previously collaborated with Pathe on Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady and co-wrote the screenplay for Gavron’s Brick Lane.
Pathe swooped this week on Suffragette, previously known as The Fury, which was with Focus Features until the recent shakeup at the Universal subsidiary.
Sources close to Focus told ScreenDaily that the outfit were big fans of the project but timing meant they could no longer be involved.
