Gary Cole is in talks for a major role in “NCIS” Season 19, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
Details on the character Cole would play are being kept under wraps. The long-running CBS procedural was renewed back in April, with series lead Mark Harmon’s return to the series also being confirmed at that time. It is not yet known how big a role Harmon will play in Season 19, with sources saying that Cole may not be the only new face to join the show’s main cast in the upcoming season.
Reps for CBS declined to comment.

It's sad but it's true:
NCIS is losing a beloved series regular during NCIS Season 18.
It was confirmed earlier this year that Maria Bello was bowing out of her Jack Sloane role.
With Bello set to appear in eight more episodes of the series, the co-showrunner is opening up about losing her.
"When we’re trying to figure out how to exit a character, one thing we always ask is: ‘What does that character deserve?' And the character of Sloane is a very strong character, and a passionate character, so we’re going to really have her go on something worthy of that," co-showrunner Frank Cardea explained to TV Line.
It's certainly exciting when a big character leaves a beloved series because it brings a sense of finality to the particular character's arc.
However, not all goodbyes work out well for the fans. It could be that the exit didn't fit the character,...

To recast or not recast: That was the big question facing many showrunners for the 2018-19 television season, after the exits — both planned and unplanned —of some integral series stars.
After Clayne Crawford was fired from “Lethal Weapon” for abusive on-set behavior, the Fox drama’s fate was in limbo. Studio Warner Bros. worked to replace their co-lead in order to stand a better chance at the third season getting on the schedule. They struck a deal with Seann William Scott, giving the film star his first regular role on the small screen, and it proved to be the key.
“If we could not feel confident to bring that show back with a great cast in a way that the audience would accept it, we would have simply not brought the show back,” Fox TV Group boss Gary Newman admitted during the network’s Television Critics Assn. panel in August.

This week on NCIS, with the antepenultimate episode of Season 15, the CBS drama said a bittersweet farewell to original cast member Pauley Perrette, who since Day 1 has played forensics whiz Abby Sciuto.
Setting the stage for Abby’s send-off was a seemingly random street mugging at the close of the May 1 episode, in which the assailant, we learned, put multiple bullets into MI6 agent Clayton Reeves and critically wounding Abby in the process. The long goodbye has started for NCIS actress Pauley Perrette. TV’s most beloved forensic scientist happily tweeted out that she has completed her last scene on the show, which airs May 8.
No details were revealed on the nature of quirky Perrette character Abby Sciuto’s last scene, but Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, Emily Wickersham and Wilmer Valderrama evidently are present, judging from the tweet.
Producers have promised Perrette isn’t leaving NCIS after a decade and a half without a “special send-off,” according to executive producers George Schenck and Frank Cardea.
“We’ve known for some time this would be Pauley’s final season on NCIS and have been working toward a special send-off,” Schenck and Cardea said earlier to Deadline. “From day one, she has brought incredible passion and specificity to the role. Recently, CBS put out a news article on their website revealing that we’re about to see a new female agent join the NCIS crew for the upcoming season 15. It turns out that the show has decided to hire actress Maria Bello to portray an NCIS agent that was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army and served two tours in Afghanistan. Their article didn’t reveal the character’s name. So, I guess we’ll have to wait until later on or until she finally arrives on the show to get that intel. Adding to the character’s description, they said, “After joining NCIS, the character built her reputation as the agency's premier forensic psychologist. Unlike the other agents, she can second-guess and challenge Gibbs. So, there will be friction but also mutual respect. She is a positive force, mischievous and at times, acerbic. They say she will...
