Los Angeles, April 28 (Ians) ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ could very well be one of the most loved songs but its creator, Jon Bon Jovi wasn’t impressed with the song initially.
The 62-year-old rock icon recently opened up about his four-decades-long career and recalled that he didn’t initially connect with the band’s chart-topping 1986 hit, reports ‘People’ magazine.
He told ‘People’, “It wasn’t that I didn’t want to record it, but I wasn’t all that impressed on the day that we wrote it.”
Upon writing the song, “it was the simple chord progression, the melodies and the lyrics” at first. “But the bass line came to life in the demo studio, when we took it back to the band and worked it up,” reflected the Grammy winner. “That’s how it became what it is”.
He further mentioned, “We knew what we wanted, we just didn’t have it,...

Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” remains one of the most beloved classic rock songs of the 1980s. Bon Jovi’s co-writer said he wrote it in a place that reminded him of an infamous scene from a horror film. Fascinatingly, the lyrics of an earlier Bon Jovi song partially inspired “You Give Love a Bad Name.”
Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ has a connection to Kiss
Desmond Child is a professional songwriter who became famous for working with classic rock acts like Alice Cooper (“Poison”), Aerosmith (“Dude Looks Like a Lady”), and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (“I Hate Myself for Lovin’ You”), as well as pop singers such as Katy Perry (“Waking Up in Vegas”), Ricky Martin (“Livin’ la Vida Loca”), and Ava Max (“Kings & Queens”). One of his most famous songs is Kiss’ disco/hard rock smash “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.

One of the most overexposed classic rock songs ever is Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” — and yet, some fans miss its meaning. Jon Bon Jovi revealed the tune was inspired by one of the defining political ideas of the 1980s. On top of that, “Livin’ on a Prayer” was influenced by the singer’s romantic life.
How Ronald Reagan inspired Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’
On the surface, “Livin’ on a Prayer” is a song about a couple trying to make a life for themselves while they don’t have much money. It’s easy to understand the tune as a simple self-empowerment anthem. However, Jon Bon Jovi himself connected it to the political milieu of the 1980s.
The BBC reports that the singer said “Livin’ on a Prayer” was about the economic policies of President Ronald Reagan. “I wrote that song during the Reagan era...

In the mid-1980s, Jon Bon Jovi was preparing for his make-or-break third album with his namesake band Bon Jovi. The album that would eventually be known as Slippery When Wet was still in the planning stages when Jon and Richie Sambora were introduced to songwriter Desmond Child. During their first meeting, Child handed Jon a song title that would launch the band into the stratosphere, “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Jon’s jaw-dropping reaction predetermined the tune’s mega-success.
Jon Bon Jovi had a surprise reaction to ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’
In an interview for Shout it Out Loudcast, Desmond Child recalled first meeting Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist and songwriter Richie Sambora. During that meeting, the genesis of one of the band’s biggest hits took place.
Child recalled, “I went to New Jersey to write at this little wooden house at the end of this cul-de-sac.

One of the most beloved classic rock songs of the late 1970s is Kiss’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.” The tune was written on the piano. Subsequently, the track became one of many examples of rock bands making disco music during that era.
How Kiss’ ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’ is connected to Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper
Desmond Child is the songwriter behind hits like Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Alice Cooper’s “Poison.” He co-wrote “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” with Vini Poncia and Kiss’ Paul Stanley. During a 2019 interview with The Tennessean, Child discussed how he co-wrote the song. “I went to a Kiss rehearsal in New York City, and they had this huge soundstage, with mountains of Marshall amps and all the guitars and everything,” he recalled.

Blondie’s “Call Me” sounds like a Kiss song that was supposed to combine multiple genres. Gene Simmons hated the song in question from the first time he heard it. He may have made peace with it because it became such a huge success on the charts.
Blondie’s “Call Me” is one of the most enduring classic rock songs from the early 1980s. It sounds a touch like one of Kiss’ most famous songs. Despite this similarity, one of the tracks performed a lot better in the United States than the other.

Part of what makes Blondie’s “Call Me” so great is its melody. In the lead-up to the song’s chorus, Debbie Harry sings “Cover me with kisses, baby / Cover me with love / Roll me in designer sheets / I’ll never get enough.

It was the middle of June when more than two dozen songwriters, producers, and publishing representatives poured into an expansive, secluded creator’s “compound” just outside of Los Angeles’ wealthy Brentwood neighborhood. For three days, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., they wrote songs — in between catered meals and fierce games of corn hole in the estate’s backyard — to shop around to A-listers like Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Cardi B, who could turn the tunes into lucrative anthems. It was, essentially, a summer camp for hitmaking. There was...

It was the bang heard around the world. On this day 20 years ago, Ricky Martin released “She Bangs,” the first single from his album “Sound Loaded.” Written by Desmond Child, Walter Afanasieff, Robi Draco Rosa and Glenn Monroig, the infectious dance hit peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Martin his second-most successful single behind “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and earning the Puerto Rican star a Grammy nomination in 2001.
The song was an extension of the Latin explosion which arrived on the eve of the millenium but it would return four years later when an impressionable 20-year-old civil engineering student auditioned with “She Bangs” on “American Idol” and truly made it his own. In that one moment, with then-judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson looking on bewildered, William Hung became an instant phenomenon.

But things went south for Pearlman in 2000, when the Backstreet Boys filed a lawsuit against Pearlman, alleging that their contract was unfair. Cher. What more needs to be said?
She’s the icon of icons, and her list of accomplishments would take forever to list. So on her 68th birthday, let’s pick the best of the best of her immense music catalog. For the purposes of this post, let’s keep it to Cher as a solo artist, and remember …
After The Nuclear Holocaust, The Only Things That Will Remain Are Cockroaches … And This List.
20. Carousel Man
Year: 1973
Album: Half Breed
Chart Peak: N/A
When the album Half Breed came out in 1973, it represented a bit of a comeback after two previous chart disappointments, thanks to the #1 title song (which we’ll be seeing later), which makes it curious why the second and final single “Carousel Man” was only released as a promo to radio DJ’s, and therefore failed to chart on the Hot 100. It remains memorable thanks to that bizarre merry-go-round hook.

Heather Winters had already been a producer on several documentary films, including the critically-acclaimed "Super Size Me" and Sundance winner "Anywhere," but hadn't quite thought about directing her first feature yet. When working as co-writer and producer on "Class Act," Winters met Grammy-winning songwriter Desmond Child, who welcomed her into his home and began to tell her the remarkable story of his family. Knowing that Desmond and his husband Curtis had spent significant effort filming the most important moments in their lives—including the birth of their twin sons via surrogate mother Andrea Whittaker—Winters and editor Lennon Nersesian began the process of extracting a story from the hundreds of home movies created by the Child family. What started as the history of one family evolved into a story about universal love and the importance of every family, no matter who your parents might be. "Two: The Story of Roman & Nyro" screened on Thursday,...

Selena Gomez, "Stars Dance" (Hollywood Records)
Selena Gomez has gone into a studio and recorded her new album "Stars Dance," which consists of 11 pop songs she didn't pen herself backed by instruments she isn't playing. It might be fun for the causal young summertime listener. But it begs the important question: Why bother?
Artistically, there's very little Selena Gomez here. This is merely the veneer of Selena Gomez, the look and feel of the pop starlet set atop a middling musical effort. There are lightly emotional lyrics that appear to reference her high-profile romance with ex Justin Bieber, but it is surface stuff and less than revealing.
Gomez's lead single and Billboard top 10 hit, the catchy "Come & Get It," is about the best offering here, thanks to Stargate's club-heavy beat. Songwriting and production assists from Ester Dean, The Cataracs, Rock Mafia and Desmond Child add polish, but it would be...

If there’s one thing to be said while listening to a hilariously bad song like “Shock Dance”, it’s that they really don’t make movie soundtracks like they used to. Heck, even in 1989 they rarely made movie soundtracks quite like that of Wes Craven’s Shocker.
The first time the Shocker soundtrack made it into the B-Sides column, it was the film’s theme song performed by the 80’s rock supergroup The Dudes of Wrath (Kiss’ Paul Stanley, producer Desmond Child, guitarists Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard and Guy Mann-Dude, Whitesnake bassist Rudy Srazo, and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee). I wrote then they were brought into existence for the sole purpose of performing Shocker’s same-name anthem. At the time I forgot even a band created to perform one song still needs a b-side.
That b-side would be a bizarre little number called “Shock Dance”, and because...
