The best movie culture writing from around the internet-o-sphere. There will be a quiz later. Just leave a tab open for us, will ya? “Guardians of the Galaxy Easter Eggs, Trivia and References” — Andrew Dyce at Screen Rant digs into Marvel’s latest to share some context and little things you might have missed. “The 10 best summer romances in film” — Guy Lodge at The Guardian proves we’ve been falling in love while sweating for almost a century, compiling a list that’s a bit more insider than populist. On #6: “Robert Mulligan knew the elegiac nature of an American summer: there’sTo Kill a Mockingbird, of course, but he also made a pretty good lunge for this list with the liltingly scored wartime weepie Summer of ’42. His final and most undervalued film, The Man in the Moon, combines the latter’s Rockwell romanticism with a measure of Harper Lee’s tough love – it conveys the full...

Well, will you look at that. I have some horror news that isn’t related to E3. That sure is nice. The Kickstarter campaign for Matthew Cohen’s indie horror game Paranormal: The Town ended earlier today after more than doubling its funding goal. That’s amazing news for indie horror fans, but it’s especially exciting seeing as... Read More...

There is an art to naming movies.
Don't believe it? Consider some of the titles that might have been.
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts starring as a prostitute and a business man who fall for one another in "$3,000?" Diane Keaton and Woody Allen as the two main characters in a quirky romantic comedy called "Anhedonia?"
Anhe-what?
That's exactly what the studio executives were worried about (it's a psychiatric disorder), and that's how officials arrived at "Annie Hall," the Wall Street Journal reports. And as for what became "Pretty Woman," even though $3,000 refers to the amount Edward pays for Vivian's services, it was decidedly too "sci-fi-futuristic" for the people in charge.
Any number of things can determine a film's final title.
The Journal notes that sometimes a standing title gets ousted late in the game because of advertising concerns. For example, "About Last Night," staring Demi Moore and Rob Lowe, was...

90210 Photos & Promo: Beverly Hills Meets Project Runway in Episode 4.11
The 90210 gang celebrated Thanksgiving in this week's episode, although their holiday plans didn't exactly turn out. Austin returned to spend the holiday with Naomi, who was desperate for the two to reconnect through sex. But he wasn't really into their physical relationship at the moment. When he left her at the top of a mountain after a fight while horseback riding, she got stuck in some rocks and ended up starting a bush fire. Austin eventually rescued her, but revealed that his parents are getting divorced, which is why he's been acting so weird.
Meanwhile, Liam had wanted to host a Thanksgiving dinner for his friends at Naomi's house. Unfortunately, he wasn't exactly the domestic type. His mother ended up dropping by for a surprise visit, but it was just to get some cash from her newly rich/famous son so she could leave her husband.

Last night's new episode of 90210 took some unexpected turns. First, Liam decided to keep the bar he bought while on a bender and then got a surprise visit from a woman named Jane. As it turns out, she is the young widow of a man he worked with over the summer. Liam felt incredibly guilty because his friend died on a night when Liam was supposed to work instead. Not only that, but Liam also admitted that he inexplicably fell for Jane. She decided to stay in town and the two fell into bed together.
Navid became slightly hysterical when he was sent a video of his sister Leila (who had disappeared), making it look like she had been kidnapped and held for ransom. It turns out that she was only being a brat and hiding out with her boyfriend, who then told Navid he'd happily stay away from her...

The season premiere of 90210 last week gave us a lot of developments. Naomi isn't pregnant and she and Max are apparently through, but she also learned that she's going to have to start at the bottom of the popularity ladder at Cu. Annie got two surprise proposals from Liam, only to turn him down. Which prompted Liam to get stinking drunk and buy a bar. Silver and Navid got a shock when Navid's sister Leila asked to live with them instead of moving to Switzerland with the rest of the family. Navid also played a practical joke on Dixon, which resulted in him not having a dorm room. When he went to find an apartment, he ended up getting an instant roommate out of country boy, Austin, who seems to be Naomi's new nemesis.
Tonight's episode of 90210 will have Naomi and Annie delving into the sorority world at Cu. In order to regain her popularity,...

I’m not sure who will be more upset by this new batch of season four photos: fans of Liam and Annie, or anyone who works at PETA!
Maybe it’s the pig in the photo, but 90210‘s upcoming fourth season — which premieres tomorrow at 8 p.m. on The CW — is looking a lot like Animal House. But while Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) is cozying up to a slab of bacon, Annie (Shenae Grimes) has her eyes set on a rack of man meat — specifically, Matt Cohen‘s Jeremy. Looks like Matt Lanter wasn’t kidding when he told us that Liam-Annie shippers were in for some “heartache” this season!

Aspiring filmmakers will get the chance to test their ingenuity and stamina by competing in Brooklyn's 72 hour Film Competition as a part of the Melbourne strand of the The Boroughs Culture and Music Festival. The festival, inspired by the underground culture of the five boroughs of New York City, features not only a wide variety of musical acts, but also showcases for emerging artists in the realms of music, art, fashion and film. As director of the film section of the festival, Matt Cohen says that the mantra this year is to "create a cultural experience." This is certainly a requirement for the entries featured in Brooklyn's 72 Hour Film Festival Competition.

MTV has recently given a greenlight to "Jersey Shore" season 5, but TMZ reports that the cast are negotiating to get higher salaries. Words are, they refuse to take part in the new season before signing new contracts which mention a pay raise.
However, sources close to the cast tell The Hollywood Reporter that "they haven't heard anything about negotiations for a higher salary." Moreover, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro's manager Matt Cohen says, "We're ready to go for season 5. And we're happy with the contracts we have."
Another source affirms she has not heard any further negotiations either and doubts that Snooki and her friends can get higher salaries than what they earn now. Cohen confirms that the stars are currently being paid six figures per episode.
Meanwhile, MTV refuses to release a statement on report of the higher salary demand as its rep says, "We don't comment on talent contracts."

Matt Cohen from the Smodcast "Bagged & Boarded" dropped Shock a line overnight to point us to his latest recording in which they spoke with Michael Jai White ( Spawn , The Dark Knight ). The actor told them that Warner Bros. is preparing a line of Mortal Kombat webisodes that will lead up to a new feature film. Now, if you recall last year, director Kevin Tancharoen put together a super violent, super dark "pitch film" for a Mortal Kombat reboot. Tancharoen will be directing these webisodes, so expect to see the same aesthetic he brought to his film (seen below) applied to the webisodes. Listen to White talk about the project here !

What happens when two young men let their love of movies, comic books, and all things “geek” take over their lives? They run away from their families, bringing only the most essential DVDs and comics to their secret, highly fortified underground bunker in sunny Southern California, where they start recording podcasts that will change the world.
Are they heroes?

Far from it.
Are they the future of this planet?
I sure hope not.
Simply put… Matt Cohen and Jesse Rivers are “Bagged and Boarded”.

Howdy Interwebbers. I’m Matt Cohen and I dig the D.
Of course, I am referring to Tenacious D - the folk-metal guitar duo made up of Jack Black (Jables) and Kyle Gass (Kage). I’ve been getting my socks rocked off’ since high school, and have been an avid follower of all things D ever since. I voraciously devour their new albums and attend as many live shows as I can, so it was to my delight and surprise that the boys had put together an epic night of comedy and music… and better yet, it was for a great cause. I snagged my ticket, patiently waited a few weeks, ventured out in the heart of Korea Town (and hunted for a good/free parking spot, Which I found, thank you very much) and was presented with a night of performances I would never forget.
Want to live vicariously through me?...

No.
Are they geniuses?
Far from it.
Are they the future of this planet?

Howdy Interweb. I’m Matt Cohen, and I am a theater snob.
Okay, to be honest, I’m far from it. In my twenty-five years on this planet, most of my time has been spent deep in the world of comics, comedy and movies - with an emphasis on movies. Since before I can remember, my life revolved around all things cinematic, and this has not changed with time. I was never a musical theatre fan, and the only times I’ve gone have been mandatory, either by family or school. As far as “straight” plays, I think I’ve seen less than five performed in my life. And sure, I love comedy (specifically long form Improv, if ya please), but other then the occasional jaunt to the Upright Citizens Brigade, I don’t get out to the “Theater” much. It comes down to a general lack of interest in what’s being performed.
