Jim Coleman has been composing music for independent films, television,
commercials and theater since the early 1990's. In the realm of indie
films, he has worked with directors such as Hal Hartley, Beth B, Todd
Phillips, Danny Leiner, Rosemary Rodriguez and Richard Kern. On
television, Jim has scored numerous series and one-offs for A&E, HBO,
PBS, and Court TV. His music has appeared on literally every major
network.
Additionally, Coleman has an active career and history as a musician
outside the parameters of the moving image. He was a seminal member of
the NYC based "post-industrial" band Cop Shoot Cop. Upon Cop's
implosion in 1996, Jim went on to release several solo electronic
albums under the name Phylr. He has also collaborated with Italian
composer Teho Teardo (as Here) and J.G. Thirlwell (as Baby Zizanie). In
2013, Coleman released an elector-acoustic ambient album under his own
name entitled TREES. He is currently working on a body of work based on
recordings of individual's near death experiences.
