Around this time in 1977, in the small Massachusetts town of Dover, a mysterious creature was reportedly sighted by a group of teenagers. It was described by one of those witnesses, William Bartlett, as being about four feet tall, with glowing orange eyes in an oval-shaped head with no discernible nose or mouth. Their reports of this creature, later nicknamed “The Dover Demon” by noted cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, spawned a local legend that now fascinates monster buffs around the world. Bartlett was seventeen years old when he saw the creature perched on a broken stone wall near the road. The story is that two women were picking berries on Saturday and saw a creature covered with “long, dark hair.” Maggie Cruikshank Qingalik, from Akulivik, Que., said at first they thought it was another person walking upright alongisde the side of a hill taking long strides, but then realized it was 10 to 15 feet tall, sometimes crawling.
The creature’s footprint measures 40 centimeters in length, according to a picture Qingalik posted on her Facebook page (above). “We weren’t sure what it was first. It is not a human being, it was really tall, and kept coming towards our direction and we could tell it was not a human,” she said.
The women said that the creature didn’t appear vicious or even interested in them. Scared, they headed back to the community to warn people about what they saw.
Here’s the first inconsistency in this story. The women said...
