Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone will return to Broadway starring in new comedy The Roommate by Jen Silverman this August, producer Chris Harper announced today.
Directed by Jack O’Brien, The Roommate will begin performances on Thursday, August 29, with an official opening night of Thursday, September 12, at Broadway’s Booth Theatre.
“The Roommate is funny, quirky and brilliantly written, and when I learned that Patti LuPone was interested in doing it, how could I resist?,” said Farrow in a statement. “She is, of course, a Broadway icon without parallel and we have been friends for decades. It is exciting to be returning to Broadway.”
LuPone said, “It’s always a big decision to return to the stage, and I certainly had no intention of being back on Broadway so fast. But when I read the play and heard Mia was attached, it became the easiest decision of my life. I’ve...

Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone will come to Broadway in the new comedy, The Roommate, by Jen Silverman.
The play, directed by Jack O’Brien, will begin performances on Aug. 29, with an official opening night on Sept. 12, at the Booth Theatre. This marks LuPone’s first return to the stage after giving up her Actors’ Equity membership after the run of Company ended in 2022. Farrow was last on Broadway in 2014, in the A.R. Gurney play Love Letters.

But when I read the play and heard Mia was attached, it became the easiest decision of my life. I’ve always been a fan of Mia’s work and she is a treasured friend. Wednesday’s Survivor episode is titled “The Third Turd,” and we’ll give you just one guess as to which castaway coined that phrase.
Yes, Carolyn was all sorts of feisty when she returned from Tribal Council, explaining to Yam Yam that the reason Sarah had to go was because she was tired of feeling like Tika’s last turd. And with the tribe down to just three players, tensions were thick, as Carolyn and Yam Yam’s relationship seemed ruined, giving Josh an inside line at becoming the swing vote.

The castaways of “Survivor 43” have positioned themselves to set a new record next week — all they need to do is vote out a fifth woman in a row. So far the cast has only eliminated females: Morriah Young, Justine Brennan, Nneka Ejere and Lindsay Carmine were the first four players voted out, matching a franchise record. If they continue on this path and vote another woman out next week, they will go down in infamy as the record holders for longest succession of female eliminations to start a season. Yikes!
Luckily, as it stands in Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, the cast is not headed toward setting such a disastrous record. Instead, Geo Bustamante leads our current predictions to be eliminated in Episode 5 at 19/25. He is followed, however, by four women with decent odds to go: Cassidy Clark at 6/1 and Jeanine Zheng, Elisabeth ‘Elie’ Scott and Noelle Lambert all at...

Following its acclaimed run at The Bridge Theatre in London, David Hare’s Straight Line Crazy starring Ralph Fiennes as New York powerbroker Robert Moses will make its Big Apple Off Broadway debut this fall at The Shed. Directed by Nicholas Hytner and Jamie Armitage, the play will run October 18-December 18.
The announcement was made Monday by producers Alex Poots, artistic director and CEO of The Shed; Madani Younis, chief executive producer of The Shed; and Tim Levy, co-director of the London Theatre Company.
The limited nine-week engagement begins previews October 18, with an official opening October 26 at The Shed’s Griffin Theater as part of the venue’s fall 2022 season.

Apparently it’s not just the fans who are going through “Survivor” withdrawals due to the coronavirus-induced hiatus, but also the former players. Russell Hantz, the three-time legend from “Samoa,” “Heroes vs. Villains” and “Redemption Island,” recently angry-tweeted at host Jeff Probst over the extended delay for Season 41. Russell’s argument? Since “The Bachelorette” can produce new episodes during a pandemic (with contestants even “exchanging saliva”), then “Survivor” should find a way, too. “Let’s get it figured out! Everyone else is,” he wrote.
hey @JeffProbst If they can do the bachelorette! where half the time they’re exchanging saliva! They surely can do Survivor! Let’s get it figured out! everyone else is… @survivorcbs

Laura Linney pours the breath of life into Broadway’s My Name Is Lucy Barton, based on the novel by Olive Kitteridge author Elizabeth Strout. Arriving in New York following an acclaimed London production, this poignant, 90-minute solo play, directed by Richard Eyre and opening tonight at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, conjures up an entire life – or two or three – through the sometimes fuzzy, always penetrating memories of a middle-aged woman still coming to terms with a childhood few would wish to recall.
Adapted by Rona Munro from Strout’s bestseller, Lucy Barton is set entirely in the hospital room – or, as all else here, the remembered hospital room – inhabited for nine long-ago weeks by the title character. When a routine operation goes awry, Lucy, missing her husband and two young daughters, is surprised to find her estranged mother holding vigil at her bedside.

Off Broadway’s hit Sing Street, a musical adaptation of the 2016 film about a group of Dublin teens in the 1980s who form a New Wave band to escape troubled home lives and small town drudgery, will transfer to Broadway in March.
Previews begin Thursday, March 26, at the Lyceum Theatre, with an opening night on Sunday April 19.
Staged Off Broadway by the New York Theatre Workshop with a book by playwright Enda Walsh (Lazarus) based on the film written and directed by John Carney – the same triumvirate behind Broadway’s smash Once – the sold-out show’s transfer was not unexpected. Reviews were mostly positive and generally encouraging if not full-on raves, with some critics pointing to fixable flaws like pacing while almost universally praising the lead performance by young Brenock O’Connor.

You know times are tough when playwright Andrew Lloyd Webber resorts to mounting a sequel rather than something original. The theatrical maestro has announced Phantom: Love Never Dies, taking place a decade after the events of the original. The Phantom apparently survived his encounter with Christine and has relocated from France to, where else, Coney Island, New York.
The 2009 musical will open simultaneously in three cities -- Broadway in New York, London’s West End, and Shanghai – a first for any stage production. Directing will be Jack O’Brien who is known for The Full Monty and Hairspray so is used to the grand sweep of such productions. Sets will be designed by five time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (Carousel).
According to the Times of London, the Phantom has yet to be cast with speculation over Gerard Butler, who played him in film adaptation, Hugh Jackman, and John Barrowman as possibilities.
