Threads, a brand-new social app from Instagram that bears more than a passing resemblance to Twitter, has already pulled in a massive user base, notching 50 million signups just a day after launch. The Silicon Valley shakeup is exacerbating tensions between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, with attorneys for the former already arguing that Instagram parent Meta hired “dozens” of former Twitter employees and “misappropriated” its trade secrets to develop the rival app.

Ten women have come forward with accusations of predatory behavior against comedian Chris D’Elia. He had previously come under scrutiny after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct and sexually harassing an underage girl in 2020 – allegations which he has repeatedly denied.
The 43-year-old comedian is now being accused of using his celebrity status to prey on women to sexually gratify himself for over a decade. He is accused of having requested nude photographs and coercing a woman into performing a sexual act in exchange for tickets to his show. Others allege that the You actor took over their lives, “tracking their locations, picking out outfits, giving curfews, and pushing some of the women to get a tattoo of his initials.”
Jazzmyn Wollfe, who claims to have had an emotionally abusive, manipulative, and controlling relationship with D’Elia that mainly took place online, went on to get his initials tattooed on...

Jazzmyn Wollfe was visibly uncomfortable. Sitting in the driver’s seat of her car in an open parking lot, the 28-year-old looked around and drew a quick breath, glancing at her phone perched on the dashboard recording her. Awaiting a reply on the other end of the device was comedian Chris D’Elia, who Wollfe says had instructed her to send over an explicit video of herself in public view.
Wollfe only had seconds to comply. If she didn’t send over the footage fast enough, she knew he’d become furious.

Chris D’Elia’s upcoming comedy show at Hollywood Improv has quietly been canceled, Rolling Stone has learned, just weeks after the comedian faced new accusations of sexual misconduct and predatory behavior.
The 42-year-old was scheduled to perform at the venue on Jan. 11 as part of his country-wide tour that kicks off on Jan. 7 and runs through mid-May. But on Tuesday night, the date was removed from both Hollywood Improv and D’Elia’s website without explanation.
A Hollywood Improv staffer confirmed the cancellation to Rolling Stone, but did not give further comment.

When “West Side Story” star Ansel Elgort appeared on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on Dec. 8, he gushed about attending the lavish New York City premiere for the Steven Spielberg film at Lincoln Center. He shared the advice the late Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the lyrics for the show, gave him after a recording session for the movie didn’t go well. And he gamely demonstrated how, as a kid, he’d parade around his home performing music from “Fiddler on the Roof.”
In other words, it was a standard, harmless late night talk show segment. Unless, that is, you looked at the comments for Elgort’s appearance on the show’s YouTube page.
A small sample:
“Everyone who made this happen… should be extremely disappointed and disgusted with themselves.”
“Hollywood waited a year hoping everyone would forget to try and bring Ansel back into the Hollywood scene.

Nicole Byer, the Emmy-nominated host of Netflix’s unscripted baking-comedy competition “Nailed It,” is getting her first hourlong stand-up comedy special on the streamer.
The currently untitled special will be filmed at the Gramercy Theatre in New York on Sept. 5 and will premiere later this year.
“I’m so fucking excited to do this. I’m so grateful that Netflix is giving me a nice lil platform to have some fun tee hee hee,” Byer said in a statement.
In addition to “Nailed It,” which drops its sixth season on Sept. 15, Byer can be seen on Netflix in the 2019 “Comedians of the World,” where she was the only woman alongside three men from the U.S.. Her episode of that show is 30 minutes of stand-up.
Byer made history last year when she received her first Emmy nomination in the reality host category; she was the first Black woman to ever make that ballot.

(If you’re still trying to avoid spoilers for Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” on Netflix, then this article is not for you because it does contain some spoilers)
After comedian Chris D’Elia was accused by several women of grooming and sexually harassing them when they were underage, “Army of the Dead” director Zack Snyder didn’t exactly have a huge number of options for how to deal with the situation. The film had already been shot, with D’Elia in it in a key supporting role. Under the circumstances, digitally subbing him out in favor of a much better comedian in Tig Notaro was probably the best option, since the role is too crucial to the story to be completely removed.
In “Army of the Dead,” Notaro plays Peters — the helicopter pilot who’s gonna fly the crew out of zombie-infested Las Vegas after they pull off their casino heist.

By now a lot of people probably know that Tig Notaro wasn’t initially cast for Army of the Dead, but things have a way of happening when a person isn’t looking and, well, Zack Snyder and his wife Deborah ended up replacing Chris D’Elia after he’d been let go due to sexual misconduct allegations. Looking over the acts he allegedly committed and trying to make sense of it isn’t the easiest thing to do since, on one hand, he denies a lot of the charges being thrown at him, but then admits that there is validity to a charge of

As you might expect from a dark and twisty zombie thriller, most of the characters in Netflix's Army of the Dead don't make it out of their zombie-infested heist alive. Among the last ones standing is Geeta (played by Huma Qureshi), who joins up with the team in Vegas. She's among the crew that manages to get into a helicopter, but when things go south at the last moment, she dies - or does she?
The cardinal rule of most sci-fi and fantasy is: don't trust a death without a body. Geeta is killed when the team's escape helicopter crashes after being caught in the shockwave from a nuclear explosion. It appears, at least initially, that Geeta's friend Kate is the sole survivor. Geeta and pilot Peters are both killed, and Kate's father, Ward, was mid-zombie transformation during the crash and is killed by Kate before the transformation completes.

This Army of the Dead article contains spoilers.
The internet is destined to debate the artistic merits of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead for years to come, but you’ll never be able to accuse the director of pulling any punches in his return to the zombie movie genre. By the time the credits roll on this two hour and 28 minute undead extravaganza, it’s clear Snyder’s left nothing on the cutting room floor, and even he’s confirmed there will be no need for a Justice League-sized director’s cut in the future. On display is his full artistic vision, down to the very last song chosen for the movie’s somber finale.
But that doesn’t mean Snyder’s new zombie universe is fully revealed in this first installment of what Netflix hopes will be an entire cinematic universe of gritty action flicks and series.

When you watch Netflix's heist-meets-zombies flick Army of the Dead, you might not realize at first glance that the character of Marianne Peters, played by Tig Notaro, is actually the product of a late-in-the-game replacement. Notaro was brought onto the movie after filming had already wrapped to replace original cast member Chris D'Elia, the comedian who has been accused of sexual predation by multiple women. With some creative reshoots and a very hardworking team of filmmakers, all traces of D'Elia were erased and then replaced with Notaro's version of the character.
When the allegations against D'Elia arose in July 2020, Army of the Dead was already in postproduction, but the decision to remove D'Elia was made fairly quickly. According to Vulture, a casting director suggested Notaro to director Zack Snyder, and so began a lengthy process of reshooting and reconfiguring. Much news has been made over Zack Snyder digitally inserting Tig Notaro into “Army of the Dead,” but now comes confirmation from cast member Ana de la Reguera about the only two scenes in the movie in which Notaro appeared with a real actor on set. Notaro was cast in the Netflix zombie movie after production had wrapped because Snyder needed to replace Chris D’Elia after he was accused of sexual misconduct. The pandemic prevented Snyder from reuniting the cast and forced him to shoot Notaro via green screen and then digitally put her in the movie in the exact places D’Elia had been removed from.
“I had to do this incredibly technical experiment, re-creating every scene, shot for shot,” Snyder told Vulture about the process earlier this month. “My visual-effects supervisor, Marcus Taormina, did the work of taking Chris completely out of the movie so Tig could have freedom [to move] within the scenes.

Netflix spent at least “a few million” dollars to reshoot Chris D’Elia’s Army of the Dead role in the wake of accusations made against him, according to filmmakers Zack and Deborah Snyder.
In a Vanity Fair interview published on Friday, the Snyders spoke about the decision to have actor-comedian Tig Notaro take over D’Elia’s helicopter pilot part. They also broke down the challenging process of inserting her into a film that had long ago been shot without any other cast members present.
Director Zack Snyder said that the decision to recast D’Elia’s part was “a fairly easy one,” though his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, acknowledged that it was also “an expensive one.” The millions spent by Netflix went toward the digital erasure of D’Elia from footage, as well as reshoots with Notaro last September, and visual effects work that would seamlessly integrate her into scenes,...

Tig Notaro saved the day on Netflix and Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” when the actress signed on to be digitally inserted in post-production to replace Chris D’Elia. The switch-up happened as D’Elia faced sexual misconduct accusations. Adding Notaro cost Netflix millions, according to director Snyder and producer Deborah Snyder (who spoke with IndieWire about the film’s future franchise plans), but it appears to have been worth the fuss, as the movie is already a hit on the streaming platform and in theaters.
But curiously, adding Notaro after the fact meant the comedian had to perform in a vacuum (specifically in front of a green screen) and without the company of her fellow actors. That remains a weird notion for one of the film’s most adored stars, Dave Bautista, who in the film technically shares scenes with Notaro, but as he explained to Vulture has alas never met his co-star.

Zack Snyder has come home. After spending a large portion of the past decade immersed in the DC film universe—even more if you count the development and production of Watchmen, his third film, a few years before that—Snyder has returned to the genre that launched his career as a feature film director.
That genre is horror, more specifically the subgenre of zombie movies, and the film is called Army of the Dead. Premiering on Netflix after a brief theatrical run, Army of the Dead is only the second movie of Snyder’s career not produced and distributed through Warner Bros. Pictures. The other one was his first feature, the 2004 remake of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, which came out through Universal and was the movie that put Snyder on the map.

A new report from Vulture breaks down the process of digitally inserting comedian Tig Notaro into Zack Snyder’s Netflix zombie heist movie “Army of the Dead.” The filmmaker cast Notaro to replace Chris D’Elia after production had been wrapped for months, meaning D’Elia had to be digitally removed from the movie and Notaro had to be swapped in. What this actor swap cost the production has not been disclosed, but Snyder did tell Vulture it was cheaper than the budget needed to create the film’s zombie tiger.
D’Elia was accused of various examples of sexual misconduct starting in March 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic. After Snyder decided to remove the actor and replace him with Notaro, the pandemic prevented the entire cast from getting together to reshoot select scenes. As Vulture reports: “Notaro would have to film almost all of her scenes in front...

“I really thought there was going to be a backlash from me replacing Chris. I didn’t think I was going to be trending for being a badass,” comedian says
After comedian Chris D’Elia was accused of sexual misconduct, Zack Snyder made the decision to digitally replace his role in “Army of the Dead” with an unusual choice: Tig Notaro.
Notaro had never done major stunt work before (she’s done some light action scenes on “Star Trek: Discovery”). But she found herself pretending she was piloting a helicopter while evading a zombie as well as learning how to handle a prop machine gun in Snyder’s film. And because she was digitally replacing another actor who shot his footage months earlier, she had to act largely on her own in front of green screens and without any other actors.

For years, Zack Snyder’s fans have yearned for the chance to see what the filmmaker would have done had he had the chance to release his version of “Justice League” into theaters when the film opened in November 2017. Instead, the superhero movie has endured one of the most tortured journeys a modern-day blockbuster has ever taken: After battling with Warner Bros. over his darker and lengthier version of the film, Snyder ultimately stepped away from the project in the wake of the death by suicide of his daughter Autumn. Warner Bros. then tasked Joss Whedon (“The Avengers”) to re-write, re-shoot, and re-edit Snyder’s film into a shorter, less angsty and funnier film. But when that “Justice League” ultimately opened in theaters, it pleased almost no one, lost money, and mired the studio in years of bad press — first from noisy fan discontent with Whedon’s version, then from...

A civil suit filed in California federal court Tuesday accuses comedian Chris D’Elia of child sexual exploitation and violation of child pornography laws.
The plaintiff, who goes by the name of Jane Doe in the filing, says she was a 17-year-old high school student when she connected with D’Elia on social media in 2014. Her statement says the 34-year-old D’Elia knew the girl was underage, even commenting on a photo of her dressed for “spirit day” while at school.
The filing says the comedian invited her to one of his shows. She attended one in Connecticut where, the complaint says, he engaged in sexual activities with her before going onstage. During those interactions, the lawsuit claims D’Elia asked the plaintiff several times to tell him how old she was and she told him she was 17. (Connecticut law says the age of consent at 16.)

Comedian Chris D’Elia was sued on Tuesday for allegedly soliciting nude photos from a 17-year-old girl.
According to the complaint, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, D’Elia sought and received more than 100 explicit images and videos from the girl over the course of several months.
The suit also says he had urged the girl to come to one of his shows, and then had sex with her. While they were having sex, according to the suit, he asked her age and she revealed that she was still in high school. He responded that that was “hot,” the suit states.
Afterward, the suit alleges that D’Elia continued to pressure her to send explicit photos. The suit also states that D’Elia would emotionally manipulate her, showering her with attention when she complied, but threatening to cut her off if she refused.

Comedian Chris D’Elia broke a long silence Friday, posting a nearly 10-minute video to his YouTube page to talk about his past behavior.
D’Elia was accused by two women of exposing himself in separate incidents, one in 2011 and one in 2018, with their stories detailed in a report on CNN.com. Earlier D’Elia was accused of soliciting underage girls on social media.
After those accusations surfaced, CAA dropped the actor-comedian as a client. He also was let go by management company 3 Arts Entertainment. Netflix, meanwhile, scrapped an upcoming unscripted prank show in which D’Elia was featured.
D’Elia admitted in Friday’s video “I know it’s been a really long time since you’ve heard from me,” but said he hoped his prior statements denying the accusations would suffice. “I wanted that statement to speak for itself,” he said, adding that although he wanted to get right back to work,...

However, he maintained that all of his relationships have been consensual and legal.
“I have a chance to apologize here, to the people who got caught up in that shit,” D’Elia said. “The lies that I would tell my fiancé, my friends — I’m sorry.”
In June 2020, D’Elia began trending on social media on after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct when they were underage, with some being as young as 16 at the time of the alleged encounters. "I know it's not always easy, but nothing ever is... That's why we make plans." Plans for... a whole life? An official trailer has arrived for Life in a Year, a new romance project from Jaden Smith (exec produced by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith). The emotional drama is about a 17-year-old boy named Daryn, played by Jaden, who falls for a girl he meets at an ice cream shop. But when he learns that she is terminally ill, with only a year left to live, he sets out to give her an entire life in the last year she has. Cara Delevingne co-stars, with a cast including RZA, Nia Long, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Chris D'Elia. This looks sweet but extra campy, a bit overblown with its platitudes and grandiosity. But you gotta live your life! Yeah, sure. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Mitja Okorn's Life in a Year,...

BBC had already shot a new adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic with “Gossip Girl” alum Ed Westwick as the rough-around-the-edges son of a wealthy family. Bryan Callen says he is innocent of multiple rape allegations made against him, and the former The Goldbergs actor is suing the husband of one of his accusers to prove it, sort of.

Zack Snyder’s imminently-arriving “Snyder Cut” of 2017’s Justice League may be the dominant topic about the director, but his hiatus-breaking comeback with Netflix film Army of the Dead also draws near. Interestingly, while there’s still no release date for said film, it appears that its streaming giant platform is already planning to expand the zombie-battling franchise with a prequel movie and anime series. Yes, folks, an “ArmyoftheDeadverse” is nigh at Netflix.
Netflix has announced its expansion plans for, as the company puts it, a “Universe” of Snyder’s Army of the Dead, which, itself, is a sequel to his 2004 breakthrough, Dawn of the Dead. While Snyder—who directed and co-wrote the upcoming film—will certainly remain the creative fulcrum for the follow-up offerings, some interesting choices were made to handle the day-to-day duties. Netflix is expecting big things for Zack Snyder’s first directorial effort since a family tragedy forced him to step down from 2017’s “Justice League.” While Snyder’s next movie, the zombie horror comedy “Army of the Dead,” won’t hit the streaming platform until next year, Netflix is already planning a franchise around the title. The company announced Thursday that it has ordered a prequel film and an anime series set in the same universe.
“Army of the Dead” follows a group of mercenaries into zombie-infested Las Vegas, where they attempt to pull off “the greatest heist ever attempted.” The film, which doesn’t yet have a release date for 2021, features an international cast of Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, Samantha Win.
