Maria Dabrowska(1889-1965)

Born in Russów. Studied sociology in Brussels and Warsaw. Published
first fiction in 1925 after years of working as a publicist. Grew
immensely popular and is now known as 'the mother of Polish
literature'. First literary success was a collection of short stories
published as "Ludzie stamtad" (1925). Her greatest literary
achievement, however, is her four part novel "Noce i dnie" (Nights and
Days, 1934), a family saga. Her work includes "Znaki zycia" (Signs of
Life, 1938) and "Gwiazda zaranna" (The Morning Star), a collection of
short stories published 1955.
