- Bhagwan Das Varma was born 1907 as Bhagwan Das Chawla to Laxmidas and Hukumdai Chawla in the Punjab Region of British India. He is one of the founders of Varma Films, best known for Sohag Raat (1948), Patanga (1949) and Badal (1951). He was married to Tarawanti and subsequently to Purnima. Children from Tarawanti include two sons (Jagdish & Satpal) and a daughter Nutan. Purnima was married earlier and had a son, Anwar Hashmi, from this marriage. Bhagwan Das died in 1962 in Bombay, India.
