"Here's looking at you, kid."
"You're going to need a bigger boat."
"You talking to me?"
We obviously love writers around these parts, but sometimes, the best laid plans of a screenplay simply don't work out as intended. In rare instances when the film gods are really smiling down on a movie set, the result can sometimes be that improvised lines, like the three listed above, are etched into cinema history and end up becoming the most famous lines of their respective films. Such is the case with James Cameron's box office behemoth (and flat-out terrific film) "Titanic," which has several memorable lines, but thanks to Cameron utilizing it in his eventual Oscar speech, perhaps none are as famous as when Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack Dawson shouts "I'm the king of the world!" from the bow of the doomed ocean liner.
Despite that line being synonymous with "Titanic," it wasn't in Cameron's original script.

Jack and Rose’s tragic romance in Titanic is considered to be one of the greatest love stories. James Cameron’s epic disaster film was known for its amazing practical and visual effects but has become a modern classic due to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s acclaimed performances as the leading couple.
Though Cameron’s ambitious project runs over three hours, the filmmaker still had some deleted scenes on the cutting room floor. One of these scenes saw Jack and Rose singing ‘Come Josephine’ after their Irish Dance at the third class section. Fans were quick to notice that the song was hummed by the duo at different points in the film, including its heartbreaking ending.

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o said that when word came her way that she’d been selected to receive CinemaCon’s star of the year award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, it led her to ponder what cinema has meant to her.
“One of my strongest memories from my adolescence came to mind,” said the 41-year-old actress while accepting the trophy inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday night. “My very first date was going to see a movie at the cinema in Nairobi, Kenya, where I grew up. I was 16. Not only was I going out with this boy I liked for the first time, but I would be watching my crush Leonardo DiCaprio in none other than Titanic.
Nyong’o, honored for her upcoming turn in Paramount Pictures’ thriller A Quiet Place: Day One, said she was beyond excited to see DiCaprio in the 1997 disaster epic from James Cameron.

There’s no denying that Leonardo DiCaprio is a phenomenal actor and ever since his Titanic performed exceptionally well at the box office, he has stayed in the limelight and became one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. However, the Academy Award-winner actor has often been making headlines off-screen as he is notorious for dating younger women.

Even though age gaps in a relationship are not a big issue, when one constantly dates people who are half their age, it automatically attracts attention followed by criticism and trolling. Such was the case with Leonardo DiCaprio, who would often date young supermodels and has earned the title of Hollywood’s playboy. A fan of the Inception actor mocked him for his dating life with the weirdest possible joke and people are loving it.

Jamie Child’s directing debut follows a former motocross champ through tedious scrapes and strident geezer movie cliches
It could theoretically be an enticing proposition: a moody crime thriller set in the north-east, with proven TV talent Jamie Childs making his feature directing debut. But this lands with a sickening thud: what we get is a charmless anti-Get-Carter of dullness, with all the strident geezer movie cliches that somehow stay stubbornly alive in British cinema. The action sequences are lifeless and often simply tedious, the characters are inert and unconvincing and there is some catatonically wooden acting.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen plays Jack Dawson, nicknamed “Jackdaw”; he is a biker and former motocross champ who has come back to his home town after a spell in the army. In need of cash, he rashly accepts a dodgy job from a criminal acquaintance in the club scene to pick up a hidden package.

Exclusive: Since Jack Dawson made him a top global star in Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio has largely avoided the straight hero route in favor of shaded, conflicted characters in films from The Revenant to The Departed, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Wolf Of Wall Street, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood, and others. But he’d never gone to the degree he did on Killers of the Flower Moon. The first version of the film had almost everything going for it: the David Grann bestseller bought for a shocking $5 million by Imperative Entertainment, a script Eric Roth wrote, and the first teaming of Martin Scorsese, DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, the latter going mano a mano for the first time since This Boy’s Life established a teenaged DiCaprio as the young actor to watch.

Action comedies are so fun to watch. Throw in an exciting title with a tempting premise, and you have a winning combination. The new film Role Play knows exactly what it’s doing when it adds a Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibe to the plot, with slight changes. We have a story about a couple who don’t know the reality of their marriage. The wife is a hired assassin, and the husband has no idea about it. The comedy stems from the fact that he is a simple guy who gets embroiled in his wife’s double life, and it all begins when the couple engages in a role-play exercise to spice things up in their marriage.

It may be difficult for some to imagine anyone other than Leonardo DiCaprio starring in James Cameron’s Titanic.
But Cameron himself couldn’t even picture the star in the movie at first. In the end, it took little convincing for the filmmaker to change his mind.

Update: After Titanic director James Cameron revealed he has conducted a scientific test on whether Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) could have survived the ship’s sinking if only Rose (Kate Winslet) had moved over on the door, the actress has responded.
Winslet, who previously opined that both possibly could have fit on the wooden door that served as a life raft, now has backtracked.
“I don’t f–king know. That’s the answer. I don’t f–king know,” said an exasperated Winslet. “Look, all I can tell you is, I do have a decent understanding of water and how it behaves.” Her remarks were made on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Winslet drew on her experiences paddleboarding, scuba diving, and kitesurfing to craft her answer.
“If you put two adults on a stand-up paddleboard, it becomes immediately, extremely unstable. That is for sure,” explained Winslet.

One of the classic scenes in James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic has led to decades of debate.
Ahead of the film’s 25th anniversary, Kate Winslet recently reflected on the moment where her character, Rose DeWitt Bukater, is afloat on a door as Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jack Dawson, sinks to his death, and also addressed the response she got from viewers regarding the memorable scene.
In Friday’s episode of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, the Avatar: The Way of Water actress told Josh Horowitz that “Apparently I was too fat,” in reference to people commenting at the time that her character’s weight was the reason DiCaprio couldn’t get on the door.
“They were so mean. I wasn’t even fucking fat,” she said. “If I could turn back the clock, I would have used my voice in a completely different way.

I don’t know need to tell you how much of a star Leonardo DiCaprio is. The Oscar winner has more memorable movies in his filmography than a good 90 of modern actors today in Tinseltown. Even before DiCaprio was cast as Jack Dawson in Titanic, the actor was known for roles in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. Now, it’s not uncommon for actors to get a role without an audition. Talents such as Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Chris Evans (Captain America) are

Since not one critic or interviewer has seen “Avatar: The Way of Water” yet (though screening invites have finally gone out for early December) James Cameron’s highly pinpointed press tour thus far has featured a great deal of reflection on his hits of the past.
For example, his recent conversation with GQ revealed this little chestnut from a generation ago. While Leonardo DiCaprio was always high on Cameron’s list for the role of Jack Dawson, it very nearly didn’t come together.
The filmmaker explained that at the first meeting, the star of “The Basketball Diaries” and “Romeo + Juliet,” was met by a packed room of every female employee of Cameron’s company. “There’s a female executive producer, okay, fine, but our accountant? They all wanted to meet Leo. It was hysterical,” he said.

Even 25 years after the original release of “Titanic,” it’s hard to separate Leonardo DiCaprio from his role as Jack Dawson. DiCaprio’s Hollywood star was already rising in the mid-’90s, but James Cameron‘s film was the actor’s breakout role. But according to Cameron, DiCaprio nearly didn’t get the part because, on some level, the actor thought he had already “made it.”

Leonardo DiCaprio’s attitude nearly cost him the iconic role of Jack Dawson in 1997’s “Titanic”.
DiCaprio — having starred in movies like “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and “Marvin’s Room” since 1991 — was already something of a Hollywood heartthrob. Director James Cameron walked into a pre-production meeting for “Titanic” and met with a room full of women eager to meet the young actor.

No two people get their start in Hollywood the same way. Take Leonardo DiCaprio, for instance, who made his movie acting debut in, of all things, "Critters 3" in 1991. By that point, his peer Christian Bale had already worked on films with the likes of directors Steven Spielberg and Kenneth Branagh.
The duo's careers have deviated pretty wildly since then, even as they've evolved into two of the most respected working actors in their age bracket. Where DiCaprio has made it his practice to avoid superhero movies and sequels, Bale has starred in everything from "Terminator" films to movies about Batman and Thor, in-between far more esoteric and anti-commercial undertakings with Terrence Malick and Werner Herzog. But for all the ways their paths have differed from one another, the duo has also joined forces with many of the same directors, including Spielberg, Adam McKay, and Christopher Nolan.

While his birth name is Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone will always think of him as Jack Dawson. If you grew up in the '90s, it's likely you can relate to the Cruella star. After all, that role in Titanic turned him into the Hollywood heartthrob and basically solidified his movie star status. At the time, Stone was 9 years old and, like many girls around the country, a fan. Exactly two decades later, things came full circle for the La La Land actress when she won her first Oscar, presented to her by—take a guess—DiCaprio himself. During an interview on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, Stone was asked what her memory is of winning the...

It’s hard to be upset that Matthew McConaughey put so much effort into his audition for Titanic but Leonardo DiCaprio ended up getting the role of Jack Dawson after putting in so little effort, really it is. That’s largely because as much as McConaughey might have wanted the role, it sounds awkward, and even thinking about it just doesn’t track in the right direction since trying to see Kate Winslet and Matthew McConaughey in this movie, together, is kind of awkward at this point. But it’s admittedly a little irritating to think that James Cameron felt a light switch on

When it came to Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio was, at first, famously reluctant to take the starring role as Jack Dawson. For Kate Winslet, though, there was no such hesitation. She wanted the role from the very beginning, and she worked hard to get it. More than two decades later, she told us she still remembers the audition [...]

The overall feeling as to why Rose tossed the Heart of the Ocean over the rail in Titanic is pretty simple: it was time. To better explain that, one has to understand the essence of the story and why she kept it, to begin with, and how it came into her possession. As most everyone that watched the movie knows, Rose was engaged to Caledon Huckley, who was a rather cruel man and looked at her as a possession. But the Heart of the Ocean was her gift, and eventually, she asked Jack Dawson to sketch her portrait with nothing

It's been over two decades since Jack and Rose's ill-fated romance broke our hearts and turned "never let go" into the most romantic vow one could make. At the time of filming, Titanic was the most expensive movie ever made, and no one could have predicted the monstrous success headed its way. The blockbuster went on to become the highest grossing film of all time (before being dethroned by James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar), and has entered the pop cultural zeitgeist as one of the essential films to see before you die. But even after dissecting the film, its stars, and the real-life events that inspired it, there are still some things about the movie that remain endlessly fascinating.
Without further ado, here are 12 interesting facts about Titanic.

There’s simply no rest for the famous, it seems, as it’s come to light recently that Leonardo DiCaprio has saved a man from drowning while he was on his New Year’s vacation in the Caribbean.
The story goes that while he was amongst friends at the tail end of December, he learned that an individual unknown to him had fallen overboard whilst on a cruise ship in St. Barts. Perhaps risking his own life, the Hollywood heartthrob received the distress call and immediately set about searching for the individual in question with his boat. Luckily, he found him nearly twenty-six nautical miles (just slightly less than a regular mile) from where he fell. After being in the water for eleven hours, the unidentified man was at risk of drowning, but reports indicate that he was brought on board by Leo and friends.

Just like Forrest Gump and just about every Harry Potter film, it seems James Cameron’s Titanic will continue to stand as one of those movies that some fans watch every, single time they catch it on cable TV. It’s not hard to see why – it has a little bit of everything. Action, a stellar cast, set-piece moments, a bit of comedy, and, of course, one of the greatest on-screen romances of our generation.
Still, for all the praise and love that Titanic gets, it’s not without its fair share of criticism. While a few critics thought the story and dialogue were nothing to write home about, a lot of the backlash comes from the fans, who take issue with how the ending played out.

The Evolution of Leonardo DiCaprio: From ‘Growing Pains’ to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ (Photos)
For nearly 30 years, Leonardo DiCaprio has managed to maintain an image as a handsome, Hollywood heartthrob and as one of the industry’s most bankable and pedigreed performers. While he’s consistently been at the top of the A-list, the roles DiCaprio has taken have changed dramatically. In “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,” DiCaprio lends his star power to help Quentin Tarantino shape a new Tinsel Town legend. Here’s how the actor has evolved over the years:
“Growing Pains” (1991)
After guest starring on “Roseanne” and “Parenthood,” DiCaprio landed a role on the long-running sitcom “Growing Pains.” He played Luke Brower, a homeless student in the class of young school teacher Mike (Kirk Cameron) that the Seaver family take in until he is reunited with his father.

It turns out that Matthew McConaughey almost ended up landing the role of Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s classic film Titanic.
He was so close to landing the role that he actually auditioned with Kate Winslet to see if the right chemistry was there. The actor recently recalled this part of his life in an interview with THR, saying:
“I went and auditioned for that. I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet. Had a good audition. Walked away from there pretty confident that I had it. I didn't get it. I never got offered that.”
As you all know, the role ended up going to Leonardo DiCaprio. I actually really enjoyed Titanic! I was obsessed with the sunken ship when I was growing up, so I was super excited about the movie and Cameron ended up delivering a great movie!

There could have been a chance that Rose Dewitt Bukater ended up on that door in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with a different Jack Dawson in Titanic. Matthew McConaughey revealed in an interview on The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast that he really wanted to draw Rose (played by Kate Winslet) like one of his French girls. However, he was beat out by Leonardo DiCaprio to play the defining role of Jack. "I went and auditioned for that," he told THR's Scott Feinberg. "I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet." Although the White Boy Rick star thought he had a "good audition," the stars didn't align for the role....

Prepare for your heart to go on and on again, Titanic fans. There's a musical parody of the classic movie — that is hands down the greatest film of all time and no one can tell me otherwise — coming to New York City and hear me out when I say Titanique is already life-changing. Seriously, if you can fire off quotes from the 1997 epic movie like it's nobody's business and have spent many hours of your life watching Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater fall in love despite knowing their romance sinks just like the Heart of the Ocean, this show is what your soul needs. And you can trust me, Titanic has been my go-to movie since I was like seven years old, so I'm basically an expert. Check out the video above to see a teaser trailer for Titanique. So here's the rundown: the hilarious concert tells the story...

We laughed, we cried, we wondered why Rose said she'd never let Jack go and then moments later definitely let him go... If you can believe it: Titanic and all its sappy star-crossed glory crashed into theaters 20 years ago today, Dec. 19, 1997. The epic film follows 17-year-old aristocrat Rose Dewitt who falls in love with poor artist Jack Dawson aboard the glacier-bound R.M.S. Titanic. Needless to say, things don't go well for our sea-soaked lovers. The movie went on to break box-office records, make Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio superstars and eventually nab 11 Academy Awards in 1998. The James Cameron-captained flick has grossed over $2,187,463,944 to date. While our 3 hour...

James Cameron’s record-breaking blockbuster “Titanic” is currently back on the big screen to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and the movie’s return has inspired at least one shocking revelation about its production: Matthew McConaughey was originally the top pick to play Jack Dawson. According to Kate Winslet, the studio was so intent on having McConaughey involved that she originally auditioned with him.

“I auditioned with Matthew, isn’t that weird?” Winslet told Stephen Colbert during a recent interview. “Never said that in public before. I auditioned with Matthew, which was completely fantastic. It just wouldn’t have been the whole, Jack and Rose, Kate and Leo thing.”
McConaughey was still relatively unknown during “Titanic’s” early days of development, having starred in Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused” and movies like “Boys on the Side” and “Glory Daze.

December 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of what would become one of the most lucrative and most deliriously popular movies ever made: James Cameron’s Titanic. It should also mark the 20th anniversary of the beginning of a wave of Titanic clones — and it says something about the movie industry that it doesn’t.
The epic romantic disaster drama debuted in Us cinemas on December 19th, 1997, and wouldn’t leave Us cinemas until October 1998, 41 weeks later. It earned $1.8 billion worldwide, and remained the biggest box-office hit ever until 2010 (when it was supplanted by Cameron’s own Avatar). Titanic wasn’t just a huge hit; it was an inescapable phenomenon. Showings were sold-out well into early 1998, even with the film in saturation release, and it stayed at the top of the box-office charts for 15 consecutive weeks (still a record). The film was a critical success, and it tied for...

Unlike Jack Dawson, Titanic fans seem to have a real difficulty with letting go of things. That’s why James Cameron, 20 years after the release of the film, is still being accosted by viewers annoyed that he killed off Jack. Then again, we’ve all thought that there must be room on that floating door for two. After all, skinny young Leonardo DiCaprio can’t weigh that much, right?
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the director explained precisely why Jack had to die – and his reasoning doesn’t involve calculating the surface area of a floating bit of wood vs. the weight of two frozen lovebirds torn apart by class conflict:
“The answer is very simple because it says on page 147 [of the script] that Jack dies. Very simple. . . . Obviously it was an artistic choice, the thing was just big enough to hold her, and not big enough to hold him...

James Cameron stole the life story of a Florida man who worked in the yacht industry and used it for the lead character of "Titanic" ... according to his lawsuit. Stephen Cummings claims he's the inspiration for Jack Dawson -- played by Leo DiCaprio. According to the docs, Cameron learned about Cummings through word of mouth about events that took place in Brevard County in 1988 and '89. If this seems unlikely ... wait. The ex-"yacht master...

James Cameron is one of the rare people in Hollywood who can freely speak his mind without fear of repercussions. He's directed the highest grossing movie of all time twice in his career (topping himself with Avatar), and you get the sense that even if he never made a movie again, he'd be just fine tinkering with submarines or developing camera technology until the day he died. (Incidentally, he's making a bunch more Avatar movies, so we probably won't have to worry about that situation occurring any time soon.)
One of the things he's had to speak out about tons of times since Titanic's release is the ending of the movie, in which Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) dies because he lets Rose (Kate Winslet) float on top of a door. Cameron has been a good sport about this in the past, teaming up with Mythbusters a few years ago...

Millions of traumatized moviegoers suffered through the tragic death of Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) after the supposedly unsinkable ocean liner hit that fatal iceberg at the end of James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster “Titanic” while his love Rose (Kate Winslet) clung to a piece of floating wood and escaped the same frigid fate. If you grew up in the ’90s, there’s a 99% you had a crush on Leonardo DiCaprio (hellooo, Jack Dawson). That’s the case for singer-actress Keke Palmer, who took her nostalgia for the actor to the next level when she wore a pair of leather chaps covered in cutouts of his face while out in N.Y.C. last month.

Forget the handsome character portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic (1997) - a new book reveals that the real Jack Dawson was a jug-eared coal-shoveller working down in the engine room. And experts say there's no way the real-life Dawson ever went above deck - let alone fell in love with a passenger, like DiCaprio does with Kate Winslet's character ROSE. In THE IRISH ABOARD TITANIC journalist SENAN MALONY tells the true story. Born in Dublin in 1888, he married the sister of a WHITE STAR LINE fireman and signed up to work on the Titanic's maiden voyage. He looked after coal levels in the famous liner and died when the ship went down. RICHARD McMICHAEL from the MARITIME MUSEUM OF THE ATLANTIC in Halifax, says, "Joseph Dawson never saw the upper decks let alone any beautiful, rich ladies like ROSE in the film. "He was nearly 70 feet below, working among mountains of coal."...
