The National Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Children (Nspcc), a U.K.-based child protection charity, is warning YouTube stars against engaging in romantic relationships with their fans. Given widespread claims of inappropriate behavior by certain creators who abuse their newfound influence, the Nspcc’s head of participation, Emily Cherry, told the BBC that “blurred boundaries” can put young people at risk and that creators have a “responsibility” to ensure appropriate interactions.
The BBC notes that several young fans have engaged in inappropriate sexual relationships with creators including Jason Viohni and Alex Day. Viohni was alleged to have brought alcohol to have sex with a 15-year-old fan, which he later apologized for, while Day has had 14 different allegations of abuse made against him, the BBC notes, though he has never been legally charged.

A week ago, Tumblr user Olga Breslavets came forward with sexual allegations against YouTuber Tom Milsom. After her post went public, several other women came forward with sexual abuse claims against fellow YouTuber Alex Day, who ultimately admitted that he "spent a long part of my life doing s**tty things to good people and barely ever realising or acknowledging that I was doing the s**tty things." These accusations have made waves throughout the YouTube community. Both Milsom and Day were part of Dftba Records, a label co-founded by Vlogbrother Hank Green. In a recent video, Green took four minutes to discuss the topic of consent. As Green explains, it is important for the YouTube community to recognize "predator/prey relationships," a topic he plans to confront head-on."We've already started working with a group of Nerdfighters," he explains in the video, "including some survivors of sexual abuse, who...

Movember may be over, but that isn't stopping the Made Man channel from celebrating a prominent man who happens to rock a sweet moustache. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is the first honoree for the men's lifestyle channel's second annual Men of the Moment program, which celebrates noteworthy and inspiring men from the year past. Made Man's method of 'celebrating' Gilligan is a long interview, in which the Virginia native recalls his origins as a filmmaker and his feelings about his recently completed TV masterpiece. Since Breaking Bad's finale is still reverberating among the show's fanbase, Gilligan's interview is a worthwhile watch--especially since he comes off as honest, genuine, and thoughtful. The Men of the Moment hub is available on the Made Man website, which is part of the Defy Media network. Beyond Gilligan, 'Men of the Moment' will also honor other guys who have made their mark in...

With the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who coming up in the next few weeks, Whovians across the globe will be celebrating with fervour – whether that be by themselves in their living rooms, in front of a telly screen with a group of fellow fans and friends, or by hanging large blue and silver banners from their windows and letting their “Devoted Whovian” flags fly.
With this in mind, what better way to celebrate the show turning fifty than with an awesome soundtrack appropriate to the occasion? And what better soundtrack than a playlist full of Trock? For those of you sitting there slightly bewildered, wondering what in the cosmos Trock actually is, it’s short for “Timelord Rock” and hence is a genre of music which is comprised entirely of songs about Doctor Who.
It is true that musically-inclined Whovians have been writing Who-themed tunes for decades – from “I’m...

On Wednesday's chart update, Carly Rae Jepsen was on course to debut at number one, while Nicki Minaj had stormed to the top of the albums tally. Ahead of Sunday's Official Chart, Digital Spy looks at the final midweeks. Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' is still in the lead, followed by Sean Paul's 'She Doesn't Mind' and Nicki Minaj's 'Starships' in that order. Alex Day has revealed he fears being labelled a one-hit wonder. The singer, whose independently-released track 'Forever Yours' became a surprise hit last year, admitted that he hopes to build on his success with new single 'Lady Godiva' this week. Discussing his debut track, he told Digital Spy: "I had no idea what was going to happen. There's always that screen between me and my audience. A song can get loads of YouTube hits, but you never know how it's going to do in the charts. "I feel the same about 'Lady Godiva'. It's that nervousness that people won't buy it and it was just a one-off hit. I've (more)...

Our latest weekly video blog of online video news worth knowing is up and fully online now—after a false start with a corrupted video upload almost doomed this one into mid-week status. This week’s edition takes a crack at some low-hanging fruit in online video—pointless How-to videos—and uncovers one channel designed to poke fun at a fruitless Seo-friendly channel that explains how to pronounce an assortment of names and confusing brands. The original channel is PronunciationBook, with some degree of utility for non-english speakers perhaps, but its doppleganger PronunciationManual jibes at it to our delight with 8-second mis-pronunciations. Loyal readers, lend us a few minutes and watch, like and comment our latest weekly video blog (thanks!): Also featured in the video blog is the launch of Illeana Douglas’s Easy to Assemble Season 3 on My Damn Channel today. I’ll have a more complete review...

In our ever improving and evolving weekly Tubefilter video blog of online video news worth knowing, this week it was all about improving the audio setup. Can you notice the difference? To get technical for a second, I was using the Rode VideoMic mounted on the camera—a Canon 7D—but for various reasons this just wasn’t going to cut it. The 7D, like many Dslr cameras, is stuck with automatic gain control (Agc) that was adjusting sound levels dynamically based on my levels of speech. After talking with several cost-conscious video creators, I settled on the $299 Zoom H4n external recorder, using a Sennheiser shotgun mic hooked up through an Xlr cable. This week’s video features two stories from the UK to start off, with Alex Day grabbing a few friends to cover one of the more under-appreciated original songs from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog—”A Man’s Gotta Do.

Katie Price’s new husband Alex Reid is reportedly struggling to cope with his new found fame.
Despite chasing the spotlight for years, insiders suggest that all the media attention he has attracted since marrying Price and winning Celebrity Big Brother has changed Reid massively.
A pal of the cagefighter told The Daily Star that the cage fighter is now an “unpredictable wildman”, they added:
“The wheels are coming off for Alex day by day. He is like Jekyll and Hyde.
“He used to be a calm, mild-mannered mate who was easy to be around. Now he is uncontrollable and like a wildman.
“He is desperate for fame and money and is irrational and angry all the time.”
Another pal added: “Alex has wanted to be famous for years and years and did everything he could to make it.
“But now he has everything he wished for and it is...

Time Lord Rock = "Trock."
Last year I mentioned that an enterprising group of Doctor Who fans had gotten together to create their own kind of music. Naming their collective Camelon Circut, Chris Beattie, Liam Dryden, Alex Day and Charlie McDonnell -- all YouTube mini-celebrities-- have released their first album, landing in the top 100 on iTunes.
Below is a video of one of their debut songs, "An Awful Lot Of Running," animated, funky and rather cool. Personally? It's also hellagay. Emo guy singing about running through the galaxy with geeky-hot The Doctor? That's just doorQy. Waaaay doorQy. It's fabulous.
Don't just take my word for it, though. Check out the video below. Here's there official site for the CD.
