- Dekker spent his formative years in Kingston. From a young age he regularly attended the local church with his grandmother and aunt. This early religious upbringing, as well as Dekker's enjoyment of singing hymns, led to a lifelong religious commitment.
- In 1961 he auditioned for Coxsone Dodd (Studio One) and Duke Reid (Treasure Isle), though neither audition was successful.
- In 1969 Dekker took permanent residency in the UK.
- In 1984 he was declared bankrupt.
- Dekker was the first Jamaican artist to have a hit record in the US with Jamaican-style music.
- I was born in St. Andrew's and raised in Kingston then I attended the Alpha Boy's school.
- So, after school, I needed to learn a trade and started to work as a tailor.
- Recently, I've been working on a new album of material, which should be out in the new Millennium. I'm not sure which song will be put out as a single, but I'm still hoping to get another record in the charts.
- Things will get better if you just hold out long enough.
- I like to write songs about what's happening, what I see around me and what I hear.
