Somebody in Sin City must’ve whispered his name three times because Beetlejuice manifested on the Colosseum stage at Caesars Palace Tuesday afternoon.
During Warner Bros. Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation, Tim Burton and the stars of his upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice turned up to rousing applause from the capacity crowd gathered for the annual National Association of Theater Owners convention. Burton walked out first and said getting his Beetlejuice family together again was like “a big weird family reunion.”
As such, he was quickly joined by the film’s Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci. (Upon walking on stage, Keaton joked, “I wasn’t alerted to the dress code” as everyone on his film was dressed in shades of black.) Stars Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega could not attend due to production schedules on their current projects, confirmed Warner Bros. chief Michael DeLuca who was joined onstage by his counterpart,...

Furiosa fired up CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled a sneak peek at five minutes of footage of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga inside Caesars Palace during its studio presentation with the help of director George Miller and his stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth to help pump the upcoming release for theater owners.
Warner Bros. will release Furiosa on May 24, following the film’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Starring Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth, Furiosa finds Miller returning to the dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with Mad Max. It follows a young Furiosa (Taylor-Joy) after she’s snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of the great Biker Horde led by the Warlord of Dementus (Hemsworth). Furiosa must withstand many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

The annual AFI Awards lunch at the Four Seasons was the same as it ever was: time, station, place in the awards calendar. This celebration of the top 10 jury-voted lists for film and television is always a big draw for talent and their studio chiefs: no one has to make a speech, and mingling freely are the likes of Apple CEO Tim Cook, Disney’s Bob Iger, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Warner Bros.’ David Zaslav, Universal’s Donna Langley, MGM/Amazon’s Jennifer Salke, and Sony’s Tom Rothman (“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”).
During the annual benediction, Oscar-winner Ellen Burstyn (“Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”) said, “I’m very happy to be here, because of this idea of honoring 10 movies and 10 television shows, and just leaving it at that, not having five people nominated, invited to a big gala event, one person wins and four losers: I’ve been at...

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was a conquering hero in the eyes of theater owners as he traveled to Las Vegas to personally reaffirm his commitment to the big screen during CinemaCon.
“We believe in full windowing. We are in no rush to bring movies to Max. It is a great service. Movies that open in theaters perform substantially better than any of the direct-to-streaming movies,” Zaslav said in his first appearance at CinemaCon, drawing huge applause when pronouncing that his company doesn’t believe in streaming movies.
“We have to rally right now. It’s a moment in time when people need to be entertained. What is Warner Bros. Discovery? It is a storytelling business,” he continued. “And the purest form are motion pictures in theaters. The phone goes off and the lights go out. That’s the only place it happens. It is a community experience.”
