Exclusive: Altitude Media Group has boarded a documentary shot entirely inside the Grand Theft Auto video game world.
Grand Theft Hamlet will follow the story of out-of-work theater actors Sam Crane and Mark Oosterveen, who had the idea to stage a full production of Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ within Grand Theft Auto 5 during the dull days of the third Covid-19 lockdown in the UK three years ago.
Indie studio Altitude has taken worldwide rights after striking a deal for the “hilarious and profoundly moving” film, which Crane and Pinny Grylls wrote and directed. The doc gets its worldwide premiere at SXSW on Sunday (March 10) and will get a European premiere at Cph:dox.
“We are extremely proud and excited to be partnering with Pinny, Sam and the whole team on Grand Theft Hamlet and cannot wait for audiences to experience this singular and masterful piece of machinima filmmaking,” said Altitude Film Sales Managing Director Mike Runagall.

Stars: Nicolas Cage, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Noah Le Gros, Kerry Knuppe, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick Searcy, Abraham Benrubi, Clint Howard | Written by Carl W. Lucas | Directed by Brett Donowho
Incredible as it may seem, this is Nicolas Cage’s first western, although he clearly enjoyed shooting it, because he’s already done another one (Butcher’s Crossing). Essentially a knock-off version of True Grit, The Old Way isn’t especially overwhelming in terms of plot and direction, but it’s eminently watchable all the same, thanks to strong onscreen chemistry between Cage and young co-star Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
The film begins with a prologue sequence, in which grizzled gun-for-hire Colton Briggs shoots and kills almost everyone during an attempted hanging, including the man he was supposed to be rescuing in the first place. Twenty years later, Briggs (now sadly sans moustache) has hung up his guns in favour of raising his young...

The Old Way is a Western directed by Brett Donowho, written by Carl W. Lucas starring Nicolas Cage.
Yes, Nicolas Cage will (probably) work with no breaks this year and already has premieres ahead such as Renfield (in which he will be Dracula with his usual mayhem). Meanwhile, we can see him here in a Western which although it might not go down in the History of Film, is decent enough as far as production and ambience.
And, also has an incomparable philosophical subject: Nicolas Cage wears a Stetson!

Nicolas Cage has tackled a wide variety of genres over the course of his career, but he only recently dipped his toe into the world of Westerns. One of his first will be The Old Way, and Lionsgate has released a pair of clips for your viewing pleasure, which you can check out below.
The first clip finds Nicolas Cage’s character waking his daughter after hearing gunshots in the distance, while the second finds the pair holding several injured men at gunpoint.
Directed by Brett Donowho (Acts of Violence) from a screenplay by Carl W. Lucas (The Wave), The Old Way stars Nicholas Cage as Colton Briggs, “a cold-blooded gunslinger turned respectable family man. When an outlaw and his gang put Colton and his family in peril, Colton is forced to take up arms with an unlikely partner — his 12-year-old daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) — in this action-filled film that...

Nicolas Cage scholars might quibble with the promotional claim that Brett Donowho’s “The Old Way” is the actor’s “first traditional Western” — a choice of words that’s careful not to step on the spurs of neo-genre fare like “Butcher’s Crossing” and “Prisoners of the Ghostland” — but
The first part of the problem is that Donowho’s competent but uncompelling oater doesn’t have enough fresh meat on its bones to fill out its Western cosplay. While Morgan Smith’s jaunty score does its best to summon memories of “My Darling Clementine,” and Carl W. Lucas’ threadbare script channels the same one-way modernity that “Shane” once rode towards an uncertain sunset, “The Old Way” clearly lacks the ambition to shoot for any identity of its own.
Even worse is that it gestures towards one anyway, as this low-budget genre exercise allows its characters just enough ammunition for us to...

Nicolas Cage Wants to Star in a Musical, Suggests Playing Pontius Pilate in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’
Over the years, Nicolas Cage has been in a wide variety of movies, including romantic comedies like “Moonstruck,” devastating dramas like “Pig,” action flicks like “Face/Off,” and bizarre misfires like “The Wicker Man.” The prolific actor has even played himself, in this year’s meta comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.” For his next big challenge, the star is hoping for a chance to break out into song onscreen.
“I haven’t done a musical yet,” Cage said in a cover story interview for Empire Magazine’s 50 Greatest Actors issue. “I’d like to try that.”
In the interview, Cage admitted he isn’t a great singer, but still said he wanted to try it out, and chose the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice as a specific musical he could see himself starring in.

"Tell me the names of the men who did this." Saban Films + Lionsgate have revealed the official trailer for The Old Way, a western action thriller from a filmmaker named Brett Donowho (that can't be his real last name?). The marketing describes this as Nicolas Cage's first ever Western, which might just be true? Why not. An old gunslinger and his daughter must face the consequences of his past, when the son of a man he murdered years ago arrives to take his revenge. Another typical Western story involving a man with a past who must fight off those who came after him when they find him. Sounds like so many other films. Starring Nicolas Cage and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, with Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, plus Nick Searcy & Shiloh Fernandez. This doesn't look so bad, doesn't look so good either. At least Cage has a glorious mustache!

We’ve seen Nicolas Cage do nearly anything and everything throughout his career in movies, but we’ve never really seen the actor take on a traditional Western. That’s about to change. For one, Cage appears in one of his first at TIFF this year, in filmmaker Gabe Polsky’s “Butcher’s Crossing” (read our review). And while we wait for distribution on that film, another Western that Cage shot, “The Old Way,” has taken the pole position to earn the bragging rights of “Nicolas Cage’s first-ever Western.”

Lawyering up with a former Assistant U.S. Attorney after being called out in public by Santa Fe’s sheriff, the Rust armorer at the center of the tragic accident that saw cinematographer Halyna Hutchins fatally shot has spoken out for the first time.
Disputing tales of after-hours target practice with weapons used for the film, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez’s lawyers on Thursday also confirmed that two weapons were accidentally discharged on the troubled Bonanza Creek Ranch set of Rust before the accident October 21
“Safety is Hannah’s number on priority on set,” said attorneys Jason Bowles and Robert Gorence in a statement released late tonight. “Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced. Hannah has no idea where the live rounds came from.”
“Hannah still, to this day, has never had an accidental discharge,” her lawyers claim in their statement tonight.

We can only hope that the upcoming Death Wish remake will rescue Bruce Willis from the level of B-movie hackdom that's become his stock-in-trade. The latest example features the iconic star of Die Hard and its numerous sequels in a rote thriller indistinguishable from the countless others he's cranked out in recent years. Receiving a limited theatrical release to elevate its standing on VOD listings, Acts of Violence evaporates from your mind while you're watching it.

"Can't go around kicking in doors." Lionsgate has released the first trailer for an action thriller titled Acts of Violence, yet another instantly-forgettable B-movie from nowhere starring the formerly-great Bruce Willis. In this one, Willis plays a cop investigating human trafficking and fighting a corrupted bureaucracy. The plot focuses on three Midwestern brothers, a crime lord, and Willis' cop, who are all on a deadly collision course when the youngest brother’s fiancée is kidnapped by human traffickers. So they make it a mission to save her, and of course there's plenty of guns and explosions. The cast includes Cole Hauser, Shawn Ashmore, Ashton Holmes, Melissa Bolona, Sean Brosnan, and Sophia Bush. I'm really so tired of these kind of mediocre, excessively bland action films that are a dime a dozen nowadays. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer for Brett Donowho's Acts of Violence, direct from YouTube: When...
