Boondock Saints III: Norman Reedus & Sean Patrick Flanery Returning? ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Despite high expectations for a trilogy following the release of the second Boondock Saints film in 2009, the likelihood of its materializing decreased as difficulties arose. However, there is newfound hope with the confirmation of Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles for the third part.
The revival of the 1999 cult classic film is currently in progress. Known for its thrilling sequences and dynamic choreography, this American vigilante action film is set to return. Thunder Road, recognized for producing the John Wick saga, has joined forces with Dragonfly Films to produce the next installment – or installments – in the Saints saga.
According to Deadline, Basil Iwanyk from Thunder Road Films conveyed excitement about bringing the MacManus brothers back to the screen, intending to enrich the iconic mythology and characters for existing fans and a fresh audience. Finally, Norman...

Original Boondock Saints stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery will both return for a third installment of the franchise, as Deadline reports, reprising their roles as Murphy and Connor MacManus respectively. Despite the consistent casting decisions, however, Troy Duffy, who directed both the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondocks Saints: All Saints Day, will not return to helm the project.
The announcement both affirms and amends a similar report from 2021. That report revealed Reedus and Flanery’s involvement, though Duffy was still set to direct at the time.
Though little has been revealed about the new film’s plot or production timeline, John Wick production house Thunder Road has officially joined current rights holder Dragonfly Films to help bring the sequel to life.

A new take on “The Boondock Saints” is in the works with the 1999 cult film’s original stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles as the MacManus Brothers.
Thunder Road Pictures, which produces the “John Wick” franchise and the upcoming “Monkey Man” from Dev Patel, announced it is teaming with the rights holder Dragonfly Films to the original 1999 cult film “The Boondock Saints” to jointly produce what’s being described as a “reimagining” rather than a direct sequel. Dragonfly Films also confirmed the news on its Instagram.
Reedus and Flanery both portrayed the Irish Catholic killers rooting out Boston crime all in the name of the Lord in the original film, and they also returned for the 2009 follow-up film, “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.” However, Troy Duffy, the story’s original director and writer, will not direct the new film but will produce it. By the luck of the Irish, a new film in The Boondock Saints series is getting locked and loaded! Deadline says the project is reimagining the brotherly action setup, with Thunder Road, the producer behind John Wick, turning the duo loose on audiences. Thunder Road will partner with Dragonfly Films for the project, with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles from the original films.
Deadline‘s report says Troy Duffy, who helmed the first two films in the series (The Boondock Saints and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day), will not direct the new movie. The Boondock Saints reimagining revolves around the fraternal twin Irish MacManus Brothers, Connor (Flanery) and Murphy (Reedus), finding new Saints to carry their torch. Although he’s relinquishing the director’s chair, Troy Duffy is still in the Boondock Saints business. Rather than shoot the next film in the series, he...

In the wake of 1999 cult favorite The Boondock Saints and 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, a third movie is on the way soon, Deadline reports today.
Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are both set to return in a brand new Boondock Saints movie from Thunder Road and Dragonfly Films, the report indicates.
The new movie is said to be “a reimagining of the action film franchise.” The report this morning continues, “The story will involve the indoctrination of new Saints.”
Troy Duffy, who directed both the 1999 original movie and its 2009 sequel, will not be returning to direct the third installment. However, Deadline notes in their report that “Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.”
In the original Boondock Saints, “Two Irish Catholic brothers (Norman Reedus & Sean Patrick Flanery) become vigilantes and wipe out Boston’s criminal underworld in the name of God.

Exclusive: The rebirth of the 1999 cult favorite film The Boondock Saints is upon us. Thunder Road, the producer behind the John Wick films, has stepped in and joined rights-holder Dragonfly Films to make what they are calling a universe expansion of the action film franchise about the fraternal twin Irish brothers who raise holy hell to rid their Boston hometown of all criminals.
In the current configuration, Troy Duffy will step aside as director after creating and helming the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day. Both films starred The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery as the MacManus brothers, with Billy Connolly playing their father.
Reedus and Flanery will reprise their roles, and the search is on for a new director. Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.

"They exited out the front door. They had no idea what they were in for."
If you're a film aficionado of a certain age, these words may immediately conjure imagery of men decked out all in black in a (literally) operatic slow-motion shootout as Willem Dafoe does his best impression of Leonard Bernstein conducting an orchestra. 25 years after its original international release, writer and director Troy Duffy's "The Boondocks Saints" is as much a perfect time capsule of '90s fashion trends and action movie tropes as it is a self-sustaining cult title. As Dafoe recalled in a recent video for Variety, "And I know that only because I'd be any place in the world and people would -- a guy, it was normally a man -- a young man would come up and say, 'Hey, you know what I really like?...

The Boondock Saints became a giant cult hit when it hit home video and, indeed, is a movie both loved and hated on this site. The film seemed to come out of nowhere. No one seemed to remember its theatrical run, but word of mouth soon made this film a huge underground hit. Why was this film so unknown? A multitude of factors played into the film’s mystery. Bad timing for the release, possibly bad word of mouth from a very famous studio head, and the biggest problem with the whole thing, the writer/director.
Troy Duffy had moved out to Los Angeles to try and find success with his band, The Brood. They booked gigs playing in numerous taverns but hadn’t made much headway in securing a studio contract. While he waited for his big moment to happen, he got a job slinging drinks at the bar J.

Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are ready to go back to the boondocks. Reedus and Flanery will reprise their roles as the fraternal vigilante twins, Connor and Murphy MacManus, in "The Boondock Saints III."
Deadline reports that Flanery will pen the script with director Troy Duffy "with a lot of input from Reedus." This marks a slight departure from the first two films, which Duffy wrote and directed himself. The original "Boondock Saints" hit theaters in 1999, and in the decades since it's developed a cult following. A sequel, "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day," arrived in 2009, but after that, it seemed the...

Director Troy Duffy has reunited with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery for Boondock Saints III, a new installment of the saga of fraternal twin Irish brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus, who go on a vigilante track. That starts after they dispatch two Russian mobsters in self defense, and then have an epiphany to rid their Boston hometown of all crime, while being hunted by an FBI agent (Willem Dafoe) who can’t help but admire their cause.
Impossible Dream Entertainment partners Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick are producing the package with Don Carmody (Good Will Hunting) and Duffy. Latter wrote the script for the film with Flanery, with a lot of input from Reedus. In a certain light, all filmmakers–even the most successful–are con artists as heart, convincing investors, a crew, and performers to go along for the ride with a tremendous amount of uncertainty. Martha Shane’s enlightening documentary Narrowsburg looks at a couple’s desire to start a “Sundance of the East,” very likely without having ever attended Sundance and fully understanding the amount of work that it takes. There are film festivals like this, and in the interest of full disclosure yours truly is the artistic director of a regional film festival and every year we struggle to make sure our filmmakers have realistic expectations for how things will go. The Narrowsburg International Independent Film Festival, and the film the town produced, Four Deadly Reasons, is a textbook study in what can go wrong when you prey on the expectations of small-town residents who get sucked in by a snake oil salesman.

Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake is a “What were they thinking?” shoot-em-up baffler from start to finish. Irresponsibly tone deaf, maverick in its thematic ignorance and pornographic in its fetishistic gun obsession. There’s never a point where vi-o-lent vigilante justice might *not* be the answer, always gruesomely inflicted with Rothian levels of fatal body trauma. For a movie that opens with media chatter about how Chicago’s criminal epidemic has reached near-dystopian levels, there’s a shocking lack of responsible messaging under peeled layers of flesh. No matter how much you might want to separate your politics from movies, Death Wish refuses to let you. It’s a dumbfounding example of the exact kind of weapons normalization we *do-f#&king-not* need in mainstream pop culture right now.

The Boondock Saints, the schlocky revenge-fueled 1999 action/crime drama, was a film liked by many fans, less so by critics. When Troy Duffy arrived in 1999 with his directorial debut “The Boondock Saints,” he was arguably behind the times. The preceding years had seen countless imitators follow in the footsteps of Quentin Tarantino, with violent, dialogue heavy genre movies, but against all odds, Duffy managed to succeed. “The Boondock Saints” isn’t actually any good — it’s crass, dumb, and fairly forgettable — but it managed to find an audience and even prompted a way too late sequel in 2009, “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,” also from Duffy.

Troy Duffy’s The Boondock Saints remains a cult classic for a very particular breed of cult (i.e., people who liked the trench-coated, flat-affect violence of The Matrix, but don’t think it contained enough gratuitous nudity), which is presumably why there’s still a TV version of the film in the works. Now, fans of Duffy’s particular brand of vigilante justice can put (a lot of) their money where their filthy, Latin-spouting mouths are, with the Boondock Saints: Origins prequel show offering an advance release box set for the low, low price of $600.

The Boondock Saints may not be the most instantly recognizable film out there, but it’s got a very loyal following and for good reason. Fans will know full well just what an enjoyable, wild, Tarantino-esque, action romp it is, but unfortunately, critics didn’t quite see things the same way, as they panned it upon release. In the years since, though, it’s gone on to become a firm cult classic and even spawned a sequel in 2009. Admittedly, the second outing was a far cry from the first, but it had its moments and ever since, people have been crying out for another tale featuring vigilante twin brothers Connor (Sean Patrick Flanery) and Murphy MacManus (Norman Reedus).

“The Boondocks Saints” franchise is still alive and coming to your TV.

While fans can donate any amount, the campaign has also created merchandise incentives in three increasing tiers. All three tiers will receive a box of “The...

If Troy Duffy were to make a Southern gothic crime drama influenced by Quentin Tarantino and David Gordon Green, the results would veer close to “Let Me Make You A Martyr.” The film, making its World Premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, is the sometimes ambitious, if mostly aimless, directorial debut of Corey Asraf and […]

Thanks to streaming services such as Netflix, we’ve never had better access to documentaries. A whole new audience can discover that these real life stories are just as thrilling, entertaining, and incredible as the latest big-budget blockbuster. What’s more, they’re all true too. But with a new found glut of them comes the ever more impossible choice, what’s worth your time? Below is my pick of the 50 best modern feature length documentaries.
I’ve defined modern as being from 2000 onwards, which means some of the greatest documentaries ever made will not feature here. I’m looking at you Hoop Dreams.

Arriving five years after "Pulp Fiction," Troy Duffy's "The Boondock Saints" is sort of a twelve-year-old's idea of what a Quentin Tarantino movie might be like. Violent, unfunny, and immediately disposable in the way so many post-"Pulp Fiction" movies were at the time, there was enough of a cult fanbase for a sequel to be made ten years later. And it appears that someone, somewhere believes that in 2015 there are still enough people who care about "The Boondock Saints" that entertaining a prequel TV series is worth consideration. Enter Im Global Television who have snapped up the rights to 'Boondock' for a TV series that will bring Duffy back into the fold. He'll pen the thing and direct the first episode. The show will dive into the suddenly very necessary backstory of Connor and Murphy MacManus as they immigrate to South Boston and be badasses, or whatever. Read More: So,...

Stars and Saints Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery might even come aboard as co-executive producers to help Duffy. "For years I’ve been obsessed with telling a real origin story with Boondock, [about the twins as Irish immigrants in South Boston], and Im Global TV has stepped up," Duffy said in a statement. After several years trying to get another "The Boondock Saints" sequel off the ground, filmmaker Troy Duffy is taking another path with plans to write and direct a 'Boondock' TV prequel series for Im Global Television.
Duffy has written and will direct the first episode, and has already compiled a series bible which chronicles the MacManus boys’ origins as Irish immigrants in South Boston.
Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery, who played the MacManus twins in the films, will not star but may serve as co-executive producers. Duffy, Don Carmody, Lloyd Segan, and D. Matt Geller will executive produce and a show runner is being sought.

There are surprise franchises and surprise franchises, and then there's The Boondock Saints. The 1999 vigilante action comedy that nobody initially saw became a cult hit on video. Then there was a straight-to-dvd sequel in 2009, and now Boondocks mastermind Troy Duffy is taking his franchise to TV. He's prepping a prequel series for Im Global TV, and will also direct the pilot. The original film saw Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery as Irish-American brothers taking on the Russian mob. Willem Dafoe played a weird FBI agent, and Billy Connolly was the berserk Il Duce: an assassin with a coat full of arsenal. Reedus, Flanery and Connolly all returned for the Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, and were joined by Peter Fonda.Reedus and Flanery are both in talks to be executive producers on the TV iteration, although it's unclear at this point if they'll also appear. “For years I...

This month marks the 15th Anniversary of writer/director Troy Duffy's The Boondock Saints, the runaway cult hit that's inspired everything from tattoos to t-shirts to copycat films. Itself an ode to the work of Tarantino and those before him, The Boondock Saints was a very troubled production with Duffy seeming to crumble under his own hubris in his rise from a bartender-cum-filmmaker. Starring Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Willem Dafoe, and Billy Connolly, the film is...

Every week, Shelf Life sees Tom White select and talk about a movie that lives on his DVD shelf, one he thinks we should all see. Released in 1999, The Boondock Saints is a movie more known for its problems than anything else. The script, written by first timer Troy Duffy, was regarded as the hottest script in Hollywood, and when it was picked up by Miramax, Duffy was attached to direct, even though he had zero experience in the field. What followed, as captured in the documentary Overnight, will live on in infamy as Duffy's ego took control. He burnt every bridge he could in Hollywood, insulting and alienating producer and actor alike, resulting in the first time director becoming blacklisted in the industry. This ill will spilled over into the films release, receiving only one week in five theaters, and garnering poor reviews. But despite all these problems, The Boondock Saints...

It took 10 years for The Boondock Saints to get a sequel from director Troy Duffy, and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day wasn't really worth the wait (and didn't make much money either). In fact, the cult classic was probably just better left alone being the film that high school and college students loved, plastering posters on their walls and tattoos on their hands. But if Duffy has his way, he wants to make The Boondock Saints 3 happen, at least that's what he told some fans during a Q&A on Facebook (via Flickering Myth). The film would be called The Boondock Saints 3: Legion, referring to legions of people taking the law into their own hands and following in the footsteps of the now famous brothers from Ireland. In addition, the film will also go back in time to show the McManus brothers very first crime. Both of...

Ten years after The Boondock Saints was released, a sequel to the cult classic hit theaters. Despite that sequel not being received nearly as well as the original, director Troy Duffy decided to press on and make a third film, and he’s got dedicated fans pretty excited about the possibilities. Today, during a Facebook Q & A, Duffy revealed not only the new films’ title, but some details about the plot of The Boondock Saints 3: Legion.
Basically, Legion is going to involve the legions of followers who have copied the lead of the Saints. Clever, eh? Also, the film picks up with the boys behind bars, just like they were when the second film ended. The movie will look into their past, going all the way back to the very first crime they committed.

Filmmaker Troy Duffy is a prime example of the kind of story Hollywood loves . a rags to riches tale that featured phenomenal success, crashing failure, and if not redemption, then at least resurrection. The Boondock Saints filmmaker is hard at work penning the next chapter in his personal autobiography, while also promising that a third film in his beloved cult action franchise is in the works. If that doesn.t make you smile, we don.t know what will. We first got wind of a new story featuring fraternal twin vigilantes Connor and Murphy McManus (Sean Patrick Flanery and The Walking Dead.s Norman Reedus) back in 2012, then more when Duffy showed off the first page of the new script earlier this year. Now, website FlickeringMyth reveals that the new feature has a subtitle and the vaguest hint of a plot. Apparently, the new feature will pick up sometime after...

Regardless of the terrible reviews and poor box office performance, Troy Duffy's 1999 film The Boondock Saints became a cult classic. It was a fun movie that even spawned a sequel called The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Unfortunately, the sequel didn't hit the same level of popularity as the first film, mostly because it was an inferior movie. That hasn't stopped hardcore fans from wanting to see a third film, though!
During a fan Q&A on Facebook, the director talked about his plans for a third movie, revealing the title and the plot of the film. The new movie is currently titled The Boondock Saints 3: Legion.
If you watched the sequel, then you already know that it ended with the McManus brothers, played by Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus, in prison. The Boondock Saints 3: Legion will show that while in prison they’ve gained notoriety.

Comic books influence so much pop culture these days. Movies, TV, video games and more are looking for the next story to adapt or character to exploit. They make billions doing it. We enjoy consuming it. But the problem is, this doesn’t really help the men and women (mom & pop if you will) that run the local comic shop in your neighborhood. They struggle to get by. This is what makes Fcbd great, you get something for free and they get a chance to show you their wares. Maybe you will come back again. Everyone wins.

"The Boondock Saints" writer/director Troy Duffy has setup two new projects - one for television, the other for film.
Duffy, Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen will produce "Kingdom Come," a proposed early 19th century-set TV series focusing on Capt. Jean Lafitte, a pirate who built the largest smuggling operation on U.S. soil.
He and his crew ended up defending New Orleans against the British for which they received full pardons, but was ultimately whitewashed from history.
On the film front, Duffy will write and direct the thriller "The Blood Spoon Council" for Voltage Pictures.
