Even in a throwback, Star Trek needs to boldly go. After twenty episodes of adventuring around the galaxy with a crew of mostly new faces, the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard finally brings the titular Starfleet officer back to his erstwhile crew. But rather than completely retread the beloved Star Trek: The Next Generation, Picard will find new ways for the heroes to explore the galaxy. Most surprisingly, the series will take place not on a newer version of the U.S.S. Enterprise, the setting for all seven seasons and four movies of Next Generation, but on an upgraded model of the U.S.S. Titan.
“So, in the trailer, you see our hero ship of season three,” showrunner Terry Matalas told TrekMovie. “It’s actually a class that’s called, in Starfleet slang, the Neo-Constitution class or Constitution III.” For casual Trek viewers, the name Titan probably means nothing.

Nichelle Nichols — famous for playing Nyota Uhura in Star Trek and six classic-era Trek feature films — has died at the age of 89. Her legacy as an activist and icon will live on not just in Trek, but also in the countless people she inspired. Martin Luther King Jr. was a personal fan of Nichols on Star Trek, as are Barack Obama and Stacey Abrams. She changed the direction of NASA forever by recruiting the first Black and female American astronauts ever and changed the way mainstream science fiction TV actually looked. Basically, without Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek couldn’t have changed the world.
But what happened to Uhura, the character, after the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country? While the 2008 Tim Russ-directed fan film Of Gods and Men revealed Uhura had become a Starfleet captain, that fact wasn’t exactly canonical. But now, it appears that the...

“Mank,” “Tenet,” “Da 5 Bloods” and “Soul” have won the feature-film awards at the 25th annual Art Directors Guild Awards, which were handed out in a virtual ceremony on Saturday.
“Mank” won in the period-film category, the Adg category that most closely corresponds to the Oscar for Best Production Design. “Tenet” won in the fantasy category, “Da 5 Bloods” in the contemporary category and “Soul” in the animated category.
In the 14 years since the current Adg categories were established, the winner in the period category has gone on to win the Oscar for Best Production Design six times, the fantasy winner has taken the Oscar four times, and the contemporary winner has won the Oscar once. In all but three of those years, the Oscar has gone to one of the Adg winners.
“Mank” and “Tenet” are both nominated for the Best Production Design Oscar; “Da 5 Bloods” and “Soul” are not.

Fans may know that the crowd-founded documentary on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has been in the works for a while, with showrunner Ira Steven Behr getting the cast and crew of the cult favorite 1990s show together back in 2017 to film it. The doc, titled What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, was shown to the public at conventions last year but now it’s been acquired for release by Shout! Studios, and the good news is it’s coming to theaters for one night only.
Shout! has partnered with Fathom Events to release the doc in cinemas on May 12th, with tickets going on sale a month before on April 12th. Here’s the description of the film, which teases how it’ll reflect back on the series’ seven seasons as well as reveal a never-before-seen look at what could’ve been if...

Take a look at the newest starship to hail from Starfleet, the U.S.S. Emmett Till!
A new documentary that charts the history of beloved Star Trek series Deep Space Nine, titled What We Left Behind: Looking Back At Star Trek Deep Space Nine, received its world premiere at Destination Star Trek in Birmingham this weekend. The part of the doc that’ll be of most interest to fans though is the segment in which the writers of the show discuss their ideas for what an eighth season would’ve been like.
These plans include the introduction of the Emmett Till. To bring these concepts to life, a scene from the hypothetical season 8 opener’s depicted via animation in the documentary, and it looks amazing. The design of the ship, from longtime Trek concept artist John Eaves, can be seen in the reveal video below, as well as the accompanying gallery.

There is no new bombshell information proving R. Kelly is running an illegal cult in Atlanta, despite claims from a city official ... this according to the Jones Creek Police Dept. Earlier today, Fulton County Chairman, John Eaves, told the media the Jcpd obtained new, potentially incriminating evidence against the singer -- and he urged prosecutors to launch an investigation. So, we called the Jones Creek Pd to get all the deets -- and they told us point blank,...

From Star Trek: Generations through to Star Trek: Nemesis - here are 47 nerdy spots in the Next Generation films...
Since Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979, the Star Trek cinematic outings have proved to be a smorgasbord of references and famous actors (or those who would go on to be), and often had complex behind the scenes events that stopped some rather, ahem, fascinating moments making it to the final version. We found lots of nerdy spots in the first six films here.
This time out we look at the films featuring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation and choose 47 factoids. Granted, there's a lot more than that of interest, but we've tried for ones that you might not be aware of.
Oh, and there are some major spoilers...

John Eaves, is a veteran to the Star Trek universe, having begun with Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and then contributing to several Star Trek television shows, and even the most recent films. In July, Eaves participated in an interview with StarTrek.com, which I and many seemed to have overlooked. But it contains some of his Star Trek Into Darkness artwork, and he explains what he worked on and what it was the process was like. John Eaves: Almost as soon as I started to put pencil to paper I was asked to start working on the new Dark Enterprise (U.S.S. Vengeance) hand phaser. The early designs were based on a handyman’s all-in-one pocket tool that had inspired Scott's imagination. John Eaves: As time went on, script changes started coming in and the grand alien nation and village shrunk in size drastically to fit budget constraints.
