“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” has been renewed for its second season at Disney+.
As announced on Disney’s latest quarterly earnings call by CEO Bob Iger, Season 1 has been streamed for over 110 million hours across both Disney+ and Hulu. Divided by the season’s runtime, that translates to roughly 20.6 million total views, suggesting that the season’s audience grew throughout its monthlong run, as Variety exclusively reported that Episode 1 hit 13.3 million views in its first six days of availability.
The series was also a hit with critics, earning a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes with Variety‘s Aramide Tinubu praising it as “a gorgeous, intriguing narrative about self-discovery, courage and friendship.”
Adapted from Rick Riordan’s book series of the same name, “Percy Jackson’s” success was crucial for Disney, whose execs gave the series a Star Wars-sized budget and were betting on its potential to kick off a major franchise.

Exclusive: Percy Jackson and the Olympians is firing on all cylinders for Disney+.
The premiere episode of the streamer’s original series, based on the books by Rick Riordan, has now amassed 26.2M views in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu, according to the company. That’s double the viewership it managed in its first week.
Disney says that all five available episodes have surpassed 10M views in their first week on the platform, which seems to stay in line with the premiere’s initial viewership, though some decline is very usual and expected as the season progresses.
The company defines a view as hours viewed divided by runtime, similar to Netflix’s calculation.
Nielsen data for Percy Jackson and the Olympians could be available as early as Thursday, if the first two episodes manage to make it into the streaming top 10 in their first week on the service.

The first episode of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” brought in 13.3 million viewers in its first six days on Disney+ and Hulu.
This number puts the series among the top five most-watched season premieres in all of 2023 on both streaming services. While the exact titles that make up the top five lists are unknown, both platforms released major titles this year. Among Disney+ debuts were “The Mandalorian” Season 3, “Loki” Season 2, “Ahsoka” and “Secret Invasion.” Hulu releases in 2023 included “The Bear” Season 2, “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3, “The Kardashians” Seasons 3 and 4, “American Horror Stories” Season 3, the “Futurama” reboot and more.
13.3 million viewers in six days marks an impressive showing for “Percy Jackson.” For comparison, previously released premiere statistics from Disney+ include “Ahsoka,” which reached a slightly higher 14 million viewers in a slightly shorter five days of viewing, and “Loki” Season 2, which reached 10.9 million premiere viewers in just three days — and...

They say never to meet your childhood heroes. Even the fictional ones don’t always hold up — problematic creators, disappointing endings, stories that don’t stand the test of time — and the inevitable adaptations of those juggernaut stories risk falling flat and failing to capture the magic of the original.
But fans of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson” novels — both new and old, as there is sure to be an uptick — can rejoice in the knowledge that “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” now streaming on Disney+, is more than worthy of its source material and the massive mythology behind it. Riordan himself co-created and executive produces the series along with Jon Steinberg, the pair of them extensively involved in production and writing. For adults who discovered Percy back in 2005 or new generations joining the quest with time to spare (a seventh novel is slated for 2024 publication), this hero is one worth meeting.

Like Showtime’s recent Dexter: New Blood or USC football’s freshly hired new defensive coordinator, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes with a deceptively simple mandate: Just be better than the thing that came immediately before.
Christopher Columbus’ 2010 feature Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was so bad — and, more specifically, the film was such a misconceived adaptation of Rick Riordan’s Greek mythology-fueled novel series — that Disney+’s series need only “come closer” in order to succeed.
And it does!
With Riordan co-creating along with Jonathan E. Steinberg, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a generally faithful approach to the books. It carefully targets a younger demographic, honoring what’s likably relatable in the source material and delivering a dose of fantastical whimsy, all while making very few outrage-worthy changes.
Is that the same, mind you, as being a good show? Only occasionally.

In another sign of Disney+ and Hulu’s deepening ties, the first episode of Disney+’s high profile new original series Percy Jackson and the Olympians will launch on Hulu, concurrent to the series’ two-episode premiere on Disney+ Dec. 20. The announcement was made by Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan at the series’ premiere in New York Wednesday night.
The first episode will be available on Hulu through Jan. 31 while new episodes of Percy Jackson will be released weekly on Disney+.
Disney used a similar strategy recently with Disney+’s Star Wars series Andor, whose two-episode premiere was also made available on Hulu, and with the Disney+ original series Goosebumps, whose entire first season was shared on both streamers.
The moves come as Disney just rolled out a beta version of the “one-app experience,” combining Hulu — now fully owned — and Disney+ for bundle subscribers. The merged app will officially launch in March.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” the Disney+ series based on the book series of the same name, will concurrently launch on Hulu on Dec. 20.

A storm is brewing, and this one could usher in the end of times.
Disney+ has released a new trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and there's a good chance it will be the streaming service's best series this year.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe imploding on both the big screen and on streaming, and the tepid response to The Mandalorian Season 3, Disney+ is betting on Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
In the past, Disney+ hasn't put its marketing muscle behind projects outside the MCU and Star Wars universe.
If the series manages to break through, it will probably urge the streaming service to take more significant risks.
Adapting Rick Riordan's bestselling book series for the small screen already looks to be paying off.
While the two big-screen adaptations were criticized, everything we see for Percy Jackson and the Olympians looks like a natural next step for the franchise.

As much as coming-of-age stories like "Harry Potter" tended to suck up all the oxygen in the room during our younger years, Millennials of a certain age can't help but look back fondly on the "Percy Jackson" series. Author Rick Riordan's novels took a fantastical spin on Greek mythology and cleverly blended it with all the typical teenage angst found in YA books everywhere. This approach proved so popular, in fact, that 20th Century Studios ushered in two big-budget film adaptations in the early 2010s, following the adventures of the young demigod Percy Jackson with grand ambitions of all six of Riordan's original books. That didn't exactly pan out as expected and plans for the franchise all but fizzled out with "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" in 2013 ... not least of all because Riordan essentially disowned the films.
The upcoming Disney+ series, however, has been working overtime to right those...

Hold fast and brave the storm as Perseus Jackson encounters mythology on a grand scale. Disney has revealed the newest trailer for the epic fantasy adaptation of the series of novels by author Rick Riordan. The novels are a best-selling book series from Disney Hyperion. The series is slated to debut with a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 on the streaming service, and it will be followed by new episodes every week.
The synopsis from Disney reads,
“Percy Jackson is on a dangerous quest. Outrunning monsters and outwitting gods, he must journey across America to return Zeus’ master bolt and stop an all-out war. After losing his mother, Percy is sheltered at Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigod children. After losing his mother, Percy is sheltered at Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigod children. For this show, only the main foundation series (and maybe just the first book) are required reading before Camp Halfblood comes to life on the small screen.
The first two episodes of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” arrive December 20 on the streamer, followed one new episode per week. Christmas will be to “Percy Jackson” fans as Thanksgiving will be to “Hunger Games” fans, with “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” film adaptation arriving in theaters November 17. We’re here for the YA literary revival!

After nearly 15 years, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” author Rick Riordan is out with a new book centered on the original core trio of Percy, Annabeth and Grover, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Chalice of the Gods.” But, will this new set of adventures make it into the upcoming Disney+ series? Well, for Riordan, it’s too soon to say — but he’s not opposed to it.
“That is just too far down the horizon to know the answer to. I don’t know,” he told TheWrap at his Chicago book tour stop on Sunday. “I mean, right now we’re just focusing on season one. Thank the gods! There’s a new teaser for Disney’s upcoming “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” television series, which stars Walker Scobell.

The first two episodes of the eight-episode first season premieres Dec. 20 on Disney+.

As a cover of Vance Joy’s “Riptide” sets the scene (iconic because Riptide is the name of Percy’s sword), Scobell goes on to describe what troubles his character. For Percy, letters swim around on the page, but he later learns that he has dyslexia because the...

In 2010, 20th Century Fox brought to life the first film in the Percy Jackson series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief starring Logan Lerman. Fox would bring over the director of the early Harry Potter films, Chris Columbus, to helm the start of this new franchise. The Lightning Thief would go on to become a hit as it grossed $226.4 million worldwide with a production budget of $95 million. The sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, also became a modest hit and a third film, The Titan’s Curse, was set to be the next installment, but it never manifested.

The Percy Jackson series at Disney+ has found its messenger god.
Tony, Emmy and Grammy award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda will have a recurring role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on author Rick Riordan’s best-selling series of novels. Miranda will play Hermes, the messenger god who looks out for travelers and thieves and is himself a trickster.
Hermes is described as charismatic and the life of the party — but his charm does little to heal a strained relationship with his son, Luke (Charlie Bushnell), who like Percy (Walker Scobell) is a demigod. Hermes is hesitant to help Percy and his friends, as sometimes getting involved is more trouble than it’s worth.

Chet! Chet!
This was one, if there ever was, a befitting, emotional, and poetic series finale. See Season 3 Episode 8 concludes one of the most well-thought out and ingenious premises to ever grace television.
We have enjoyed, cried, angered, and laughed while watching this saga that has unfolded on our screens for three years. This series finale was one for the books. Many decisions were made, some we might disagree with, but it is what it is. Strap in as we explore all this.
Most of us wanted to see a great battle and were not disappointed. Anders Engstrom directed all the episodes in this season, and it is evident in the final product that he did an outstanding job. From well-choreographed action scenes to emotional ones, hats off to him.
After consummating their union, Tomarda and Sibeth are closer than ever. This raises her confidence a notch if she could be more confident.

The hit Apple TV+ drama wraps up its run later this month.
Before we get to that, we have See Season 3 Episode 7, which brings plenty of conflict to the surface.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at the installment that will surely switch things up.
Queen Kane (Sylvia Hoeks) and Kofun (Archie Madekwe) get into quite the war of words in the clip as they both come to terms with the big changes.
It certainly leaves us with many questions as we head into the episode.
As previously reported, See Season 3 will conclude the Jason Moma drama.
"Almost a year has passed since Baba Voss (Momoa) defeated his nemesis brother Edo and bid farewell to his family to live remotely in the forest," the official logline reads.
