Sublime’s original bassist, Eric Wilson, and drummer, Bud Gaugh, are reuniting for an upcoming performance featuring Jakob Nowell, the son of the band’s original frontman, Bradley Nowell, on vocals.
The performance will take place in Los Angeles on December 11th at a benefit concert for Bad Brains’ frontman, H.R. It marks the first time that the younger Nowell — who was 11-months-old when his father died in 1996, and has been touring in his own right for over a decade — will join the former Sublime musicians. It also marks the first time that Wilson and Gaugh will perform together since the latter left Sublime with Rome in 2011, saying that it “felt wrong” to play Sublime songs “without Brad.”
The trio will not performing under the name “Sublime,” but according to Billboard, a more formal reunion may be on the horizon. Nowell is represented by Kevin Zinger with Regime Music Group,...

The new documentary A Fat Wreck documents the rise of Fat Wreck Chords, the label run by Nofx frontman “Fat Mike” Burkett and his ex-wife Erin Burkett, and how the pair made it one of the most successful punk labels of the past 20 years. While A Fat Wreck features mini-profiles on some Fat‘s best known bands, this clip—premiering exclusively on The A.V. Club—tells the tale of how Fat Mike found punk rock all those years ago. In the clip, Fat Mike credits Joe Escalante of The Vandals fame as being his spiritual shepherd, leading him to dive headfirst into the scene that spoke to him.
A Fat Wreck is available now on DVD and on streaming services.

Here’s a scripting team-up we’re not sure many could have predicted: Forgetting Sarah Marshall / The Muppets co-writer / star Jason Segel and Iron Man 3 scribbler Drew Pearce have hatched a deal to adapt Andrea Blaugrund Nevin’s 2011 documentary The Other F Word into a new film for Fox.The doc talked to aging punk rockers (including the likes of Tony Adolescent, Jim Lindberg, Joe Escalante, Flea, Lars Friedriksen and skateboard legend Tony Hawk) about how Lindberg’s life in particular changed from being a raging anti-authoritarian to taking on the biggest challenge: becoming a dad.Nothing is known about the film’s plot, though given Segel is starring, we figure it’ll follow him as a bloke trying to figure out fatherhood for the first time as he reconciles it with his past. After all, he has some experience of screen fatherhood as Marshall in How I Met Your Mother.

Los Angeles music and radio fans might do a double take when they read their ballots in Tuesday's countywide election. Joe Escalante, the rabble-rousing entertainment lawyer, longtime bassist for punk band The Vandals and former host at L.A. alt-rock radio station Indie 103.1, is running for an open seat as a judge in Los Angeles Superior Court. Escalante, 49, is one of our favorite personalities here at THR, Esq. A former CBS business affairs executive, he left his gig as a Hollywood lawyer in the mid-'90s to tour with his band, then reinvented

Variety has settled its protracted lawsuit against Los Angeles punk band The Vandals over an album cover that used lettering similar to the logo of the trade newspaper. Vandals bassist Joe Escalante, who is also a lawyer and radio personality, tells us that Variety has agreed to drop the case, first filed in 2010, without requiring a cash settlement. A lawyer for Variety parent Reed Elsevier did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but a motion to dismiss is expected as soon as this week. Both sides will pay their own legal fees. The -- Fuck Authority -- attitude of punk rock is as abrasive as it is honest,...
