Norma Shearer films Note: This article is being revised and expanded. Please check back later. Turner Classic Movies' Norma Shearer month comes to a close this evening, Nov. 24, '15, with the presentation of the last six films of Shearer's two-decade-plus career. Two of these are remarkably good; one is schizophrenic, a confused mix of high comedy and low drama; while the other three aren't the greatest. Yet all six are worth a look even if only because of Norma Shearer herself – though, really, they all have more to offer than just their top star. Directed by W.S. Van Dyke, the no-expense-spared Marie Antoinette (1938) – $2.9 million, making it one of the most expensive movies ever made up to that time – stars the Canadian-born Queen of MGM as the Austrian-born Queen of France. This was Shearer's first film in two years (following Romeo and Juliet) and her first release following husband Irving G.

Could Necessary Roughness Season 3 go down as “The Year Of Stamos?”
Possibly. But John Stamos joining the cast of this USA Network hit is far from its only addition.
The third season of the USA series is full of new twists and turns (and a glam new set) that has injected it with a rejuvenated life, attitude and an oh-so-slightly skewed direction that should ensure a long healthy run.
But let’s start with Stamos, who is known to make audiences swoon... but also seemed to have the same effect on his co-stars when I stopped by the Atlanta set last week.
“I cried tears of joy,” Callie Thorne said when she first heard Stamos’s name come up as a possible addition to the show as Connor McClane, the head of a talent agency called V3 that not only hires Dr. Dani, but will also sign Tk (Mehcad Brooks...

Cartoon Network has ordered a second season of Teen Titans Go!. That makes me happy since Tara Strong’s annoyed line delivery as Raven is easily one of the funniest things on TV.
I do love how the New Teen Titans are becoming so iconic.
ABC Family has found a host for its spelling competition Spell-Mageddon, picking Silver Spoons and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro.
Remember that hot guy Louie Ck hung out with (and kinda seemed to fall in love with) in that episode of Louie? FX has found a new role for him. Deadline reports that Miguel Gomez has joined the pilot The Strain, a vampire drama pilot from Guillermo del Toto and… er, Carlton Cuse.
That was one unforgettable Louie episode.
Vikings added two for its second season with Linus Roache and Alexander Ludwig joining the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ludwig will...

From scoop on cable's biggest-ever show to USA Network going where few other shows dare to traverse, it's time to open up my Notebook once again and let the scoop and spoilers spill out. Let's do that!
The Walking Dead As you saw in last weekend’s mid-season premiere, David Morrissey’s Governor may be minus an eyeball, but he’s still as much of a threat as ever to Rick and the gang. Where is that anger going to take him (and us)?
Morrissey told me at the recent Academy of Television Arts & Sciences that his character is "a grieving man, he’s full of anger, he wants revenge and he hates the world and that’s quite a nihilistic place he’s in... who knows what his plans are? Who knows who the real man is? I think that is what will be played out in the season...

Homosexuality in professional sports - it's a hot topic these days, with an implicit countdown clock for the first U.S. professional team sports player to anounce he's gay. No doubt there are already gay pro athletes, but no active player in the NBA, NFL, NHL or major league baseball has ever come out of the closet. The first brave guy to do so will be a hero to many, a modern day Jackie Robinson.
Everybody remembers Jackie Robinson, but do you know who the second black major league baseball player was? Probably not. This fact alone should be a strong inducement for some brave yet currently closeted gay professional athlete to take the leap now, before someone else beats them to that place in history.
But professional football is arguably the sport that would be least accommodating to a gay player.
