A film based on the “Duke Nukem” video-game franchise is finally coming to the big screen. Legendary has acquired the rights to adapt Gearbox’s franchise into a feature film, and they’ve brought aboard the creators of “Cobra Kai” as producers.
“Duke Nukem,” which first launched as a macho first-person shooter game in 1991, will be produced by Legendary along with Counterbalance Entertainment’s Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg (Cobra Kai) and Marla Studio’s Jean Julien Baronnet.
The video games saw the title character as a hulking, gun toting, cigar chomping, ass-kicking hero fighting off aliens and rescuing hot babes in an unironic, ’90s action style. While the game’s humor and tone may be dated, the video game’s design and technical achievements have made it a successful franchise, and future installments, including most recently “Duke Nukem Forever” in 2011 after Gearbox acquired the rights to the franchise,...

Sue Kroll, through Kroll & Co. Entertainment’s exclusive deal at the Burbank, CA studio, will produce alongside Jeff Nathanson. Julie Andrews and Ashok Amritraj will serve as executive producers.

In an interview with Kotaku, “Max Payne” producer Scott Faye chatted about the possibility of a big-screen version of the popular “Duke Nukem” video game.
“With the two new games coming out based on Duke Nukem, I'm working at establishing a Duke film scenario that will compel a studio to finance a feature version,” Faye said.
He also said he’s not going to shop the film around until everybody involved is entirely happy with the early development of the project.

Max Payne may be the most popular video game gunshooter to step out of your Xbox right now, but he won't be alone for long. Scott Faye, a producer of Max Payne, told Kotaku.com that he's already hard at work at bringing Duke Nukem to the big screen as well. "I'm working diligently at making a Duke Nukem movie scenario that will live up to the character and its import in the videogame world," said the producer, who is already working with Nukem and Payne developer Scott Miller. "As is the case with all of my game adaptations, I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation." Faye also has a lot of development in mind for the character, which is pretty necessary when you're moving from a video game to an actual movie, with an actual story. ""We're expanding Duke's .storyverse' in a very significant major...

I am amazed that Duke Nukem hasn't been made it into a movie yet. Lara Croft got a movie deal faster than he did -- perhaps that's why she let him touch her boobs and live. Consolation prize.

One of the most well-known classic video games is now headed to the big screen - Duke Nukem. The game first arrived on PC way back in 1991 and has since gone on to become one of the most well-known shooters that helped launch the action genre into the mainstream. Producer Scott Faye, who is currently finishing Max Payne, is working on adapting this video game and promises that "I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation." Faye's still developing the story and doesn't want to shop it around Hollywood until "until all the people involved in the project feel solid about where we are creatively." I thought Return to Castle Wolfenstein was the only classic game being adapted at the moment, but I guess I was wrong. Although there aren't too many solid details on this yet, Faye did explain to Kotaku that "I'm working diligently at...

All you fans out there who’ve been anxiously awaiting more news on the forever-in-development adaptation of American McGee’s Alice videogame can finally rest easy; it ain't happening.
At least, not in the way it’s been discussed for the past few years. Sarah Michelle Gellar is no longer attached to the title role, Marcus Nispel is no longer directing, and Universal has washed its hands of it. So where does that leave the project? Back to zero, it would seem.
Producer Scott Faye spoke with Kotaku about the film recently and gave all the above updates along with the news that the film’s original scribes, Jon and Erich Hoeberand, are working on a new draft of the script as we speak. “I love the grown-up Alice in a horror story version of Wonderland,” Faye told the site, ”and knew instinctively that the project would have a commercial...

NEW YORK -- Even by the standards of the current Miramax fire sale, this misbegotten horror film deserved to go direct to video. Or cable. Or oblivion. Depicting the efforts of a band of plucky and perky teens in battling a zombie boogeyman, the unfortunately timed "Venom" is set in the swamps of Louisiana, an area that already has seen more than its share of misery lately.
The screenplay, credited to no less than three writers, concerns the aftermath of a fatal car crash involving a voodoo priestess and the suitcase she's recently dug up containing myriad evil spirits who take the form of computer-generated snakes. When a hapless tow-truck driver (Rick Cramer) attempts to rescue her, he gets killed and possessed by said spirits, who promptly turn him into a prospective horror movie franchise character.
Said boogeyman proceeds to go on a murderous rampage, concentrating, naturally enough, on the most attractive teenagers in town, though with the occasional detour into such minor celebrity snuffings as Method Man (typecast as a police officer) and Bijou Phillips.
The paucity of good roles for younger performers is highlighted by the starring turn from Agnes Bruckner, who clearly was not fully successful in parlaying her fine notices from "Blue Car" into attaining more substantial fare.
The film is completely devoid of notable elements, other than that its carnage is significantly gorier than in the recent spate of tamer, PG-rated horror fare, and that its slumming creators include producer Kevin Williamson ("Scream") and director Jim Gillespie ("I Know What You Did Last Summer").

Producer Scott Faye of Collision Entertainment has teamed up with Firm Films head Julie Yorn to turn Max Payne, the action video game franchise, into a feature film for 20th Century Fox. Karen Lauder of Abandon Entertainment will executive produce, with Faye and Yorn producing. Fox exec Robbie Brenner will oversee the project for the studio. Released on PC in July 2001 and later that fall on Xbox and PlayStation 2, Max Payne tells the story of a New York cop whose wife and baby are killed by thugs high on a designer drug called Valkyr. Devastated, the cop joins the Drug Enforcement Agency and goes undercover with the mob to find the source of the drug. Framed for the murder of his partner and hunted down by both the mob and the police, he is forced to wage a one-man war against crime. The game's intricate film noir story, which involves government cover-ups, the Mafia and a city crippled by the century's worst blizzard, is told through comic book-style storyboards.
