- Member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) since 1998.
- Did four tours of duty as the lighting designer for the Antioch College's Shakespeare Festival and for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
- Graduated from Antioch College with a bachelor's degree in theater arts.
- Served in the United States Army after college. He was assigned to the Army Pictorial Center studio in Astoria, Queens, New York where he worked as an apprentice on large-scale, Hollywood-like studio productions and complex shoots in distant locations.
- Did the lighting for a few Broadway stage productions, notably the 1964 Ben Gazzara tour de force Traveller Without Luggage.
- After college he was a cameraman stringer for the local NBC affiliate in Dayton, Ohio, WLWD.
- In the 1980s, Feil helped refine and design camera systems, lighting and framing techniques used in the production of such 3D films as Friday the 13th Part III (1982) and Jaws 3-D (1983).
- Taught filmmaking at NYU starting in 1993.
- Wife Hila is a children's book author.
- Attended Antioch College with Rod Serling and Herb Gardner.
- Restored the celebrated Canadian film Lies My Father Told Me (1975) for a reissue.
