Alongside Chloe Moretz, the tween member in the Fanning family is clearly the go-to choice for pre-teen roles these days. After her take in Coppola's Somewhere, and parts in the upcoming, highly anticipated pics such as J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 and Frances Ford Coppola’s Twixt now and Sunrise, Elle Fanning is looking to keep a solid footing in indie film sphere. With recent casting mentions for The Shaggs and Van Fischer's Pure Life, the 13-year-old is in talks to share the screen with Casey Affleck and Jamie Bell in the upcoming futuristic sci-fi film Young Ones. Jake Paltrow would be doing double duty on this feature as both writer and director, while Noah Baumbach is set to produce. Gist: Think the antithesis of a certain 1995 Kevin Costner film, this takes place in the near future, where water is a scarce commodity. A teenage cowboy is grieving over the...

Elle Fanning certainly looks to be going “Somewhere.”
Miss Fanning will be following up her impressive turn as a movie star’s daughter in Sofia Coppola’s quietly scathing look at celebrity with “Pure Life,” an indie drama set to go in front of cameras this spring.
“Pure Life” sees Fanning as a teenager obsessed with the kind of “perfect” romances depicted in the old Brat Pack movies, according to The Playlist. Her desire for such a romance leads her to a bad boy she deems worthy of taking her virginity.
We have a feeling things won’t quite work out the way they do in the movies.
Vera Farmiga will once again play a woman about half a bad day from a complete nervous breakdown as Fanning’s hard-working, short-tempered single mom. Omari Hardwick (“Kick-Ass,” “The A-Team”) has also joined the cast.

With Dakota Fanning all grown up - she's turning 17 this February - it's apparently her little sister's turn to become a star. After starring in two movies last year, including Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, the young Elle Fanning already has four projects lined up, including Francis Ford Coppola's Twixt Now and Sunrise, J.J. Abrams' Super 8 and Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo. Apparently that acting bug is really biting hard, however, because she's now signed on to yet another. The Playlist reports that Fanning, Vera Farmiga and Omari Hardwick have signed on to star in Pure Life, an independent drama directed by Van Fischer. In the film, Fanning will play Maya Donovan, a 13-year-old girl who wishes to find love like what she sees in John Hughes movies. Living in poverty with her mother, played by Farmiga, she sets off to find romance and someone to take her virginity.

John Hughes had a powerful effect on us all. His films defined a generation that is held together by spirit and not arbitrary birth dates. He found a way to speak to the eternal teenager in all of us. His movies will also speak to Maya Donovan, a character in the forthcoming Pure Life, who is charmed by the Brat Pack and heads out to find a Smoke Up Johnny to give her purity to. The 13-year-old character will be played by Elle Fanning, and according to The Playlist, Vera Farmiga is also slated to play her mother – a woman burdened by work but not by money. The sexual component and the extreme young age brings to mind Dakota Fanning’s role in Hound Dog, but the subject matter here sounds completely different if not still engaging. At the very least, two strong performers will be at the center of it all with indie director Van Fischer at...

On its surface, and in its most basic form, Neo Ned might sound like a Monsters Ball retread – a young black single mother gets romantically involved with a racist white man. But will digging further reveal more?
The titular Ned (played by Oscar-nominee for The Hurt Locker Jeremy Renner) is laden with enough emotional baggage to totally destroy any human soul. As a child, he saw his racist, irresponsible father incarcerated indefinitely; he’s shopped from one foster home to the next, including one suicidal family, who almost kill him. Ned never quite had a real family, and like most young adults with his history and desires, he clings to any group that wants and accepts him – even if it’s made up of neo-Nazi skinheads who commit race-crimes, as is the case in Neo Ned.
We’ve heard of the hooker with the heart of gold; In Ned’s case,...
