She-Hulk star Ginger Gonzaga has such a keen fashion sense that her own clothing ended up in the MCU.
Gonzaga plays Jen Walters/She-Hulk’s (Tatiana Maslany) best friend and paralegal, Nikki Ramos, and besides being an ideal companion that everyone dreams of having, Nikki’s eye for fashion stands out in virtually every scene of hers. Gonzaga credits costume designer Ann Foley for being so open to collaboration as wardrobe is a key component of Gonzaga’s process as an actor.
“I didn’t feel comfortable as Nikki unless she was wearing something a little defiant or something that she shouldn’t be wearing at work or something that’s a little too high fashion and really racks up her credit cards,” Gonzaga tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” star Tatiana Maslany says late experimental pop musician Sophie inspired her work as the green-skinned superhero.
“Musically, Sophie just lives in this place that I always want to live in, but there’s a poppiness and femininity combined with these clashing industrial sounds,” Maslany tells Variety about the parallels between Sophie’s music and playing the dual role of Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk. “Her music video ‘Faceshopping’ was all about skin, commodification of body and being separated into different parts, and that all felt thematically and spiritually connected.”
The Grammy-nominated producer and musician died at 34 years old in January 2021 due to a climbing accident in Greece.
Variety caught up with Maslany and more “She-Hulk” talent at Monday’s green-and-purple carpet premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Billed as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first half-hour comedy, “She-Hulk” follows Maslany’s Jennifer Walters as she...

“Godzilla vs. Kong” naturally focuses on the mighty battle between the monsters, but costume designer Ann Foley also had a story to tell with her work.
Foley brought unique touches to dressing the human actors: Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Kyle Chandler and Demián Bichir.
Foley mapped out how what the characters wear helps inform their stories, beginning with the script.
What was your approach to designing for the characters in “Godzilla vs. Kong”?
People were asking me, ‘What are you going to put Kong in?’ Yes, this is a movie about monsters, but with any film, I start with what’s in the script and breaking down these characters.
I’m trying to tell a story with the clothes and with the visuals about who these people are. We have Jia, Dr. Andrews and Nathan and their journey to save Kong. On the other side,...

“The challenge when you’re designing anything that’s futuristic is trying to keep it grounded and keep it believable,” says “Altered Carbon” costume designer Ann Foley. Otherwise you risk “taking the audience out of the story.” This Netflix series imagines a future where consciousness can be digitized and stored. When a prisoner (Joel Kinnaman) returns to life in a new body he must solve a mind-bending murder in order to win his freedom. “Our visual effects and production design were so beautifully elaborate,” Foley adds, so “the most important thing was to make sure my costumes integrated perfectly and beautifully into this amazing world.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Foley above.

Season three of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally embracing superpowers with the formation of the Secret Warriors, and a big part of that is Skye's transformation into Daisy Johnson/Quake. Talking to Marvel.com recently, costume designer Ann Foley had this to say about putting Chloe Bennet in the suit. "Chloe looks incredible and feels empowered in it. She loves wearing her Quake costume and if she had her way, she’d probably wear it all the time." As for what she's most proud of when it came to designing this look for the Inhuman hero, Foley added: "I love the gauntlets and that we worked the symbol into the construction on the back of her suit. It’s probably one of the coolest things that we’ve done so far. And the fact that Chloe is so happy with it and that she looks so kick ass in it is a real thrill!

Though we did get a few quick glimpses in the recently released teaser, we now have a proper look at the superhero costume that Chloe Bennet (Daisy, Aka Skye, Aka Quake) will be rocking as the leader of the Secret Warriors when Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to our screens.
The outfit definitely takes some influence from Quake’s look in the Marvel comics, but they’ve obviously put their own spin on it as well. You’ll notice she’s also sporting some snazzy new gauntlets to help her control her unstable earth-shattering Inhuman abilities.
Here’s what costume designer Ann Foley had to say about it during an interview with the La Times.
“It’s about strength. She feels very empowered in it. That’s what was important to me, that she felt empowered to me. I wanted to stay true to some of the designs I saw in the comics.

In some ways, the journey of J. August Richards' Mike Peterson has been the journey of the first season of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." In the pilot, Peterson was introduced as an ordinary father who got superpowers through the use of the Centipede Device. He just wanted to be a hero to his son, but instead he became a victim of the technology and he had to be secured by S.H.I.E.L.D. A bit later, he was recaptured and his technology was overhauled to make him the villainous Deathlok. With each passing appearance, we see less and less Mike Peterson and more and more Deathlok. Late last week, I got on the phone with Richards to talk about his character's evolution and how much humanity still remains in Deathlok. We talked about the balancing act of keeping just a touch...

In the interview, Phillip discusses what it's like working alongside costume designer Ann Foley on translating comic book costumes for the television format. Phillip Boutte Jr.: Ann's design process always starts with what is real and a lot of research. She studies the comic character's look, then turns to fashion and history to translate the character's look into reality. What a busy twelve months it’s been for costume design. Really though, this art, or craft, or business (Deborah Nadoolman Landis insists it is definitely a business) gets more talked about each year. 2013 was especially exciting however as it seemed every month something even more thrilling arrived to fawn over. In the last few weeks alone we have had The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Sleepy Hollow, and now American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street on the horizon. Dipping back further, it was Stoker that got us excited about subtext, The Great Gatsby that slammed the lid on that twenties revival once and for all, and Behind the Candelabra that put Michael Douglas in a 16ft fox fur cape and white brocade jumpsuit.

That’s it then. Happy holidays everyone!
Her
This is a good article. Will Joaquin Phoenix wearing high waisted trousers in Her bring about a return of the look on the high street? We really hope so. Low and skinny is as dead as disco. Acutally disco is still awesome, but you get our point.
The Butler
Huge analysis and discussion of The Butler from simply wonderful costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
We tried to watch this show but it made us feel old. That said the costumes by Ann Foley look spiffy. Read Tyranny of Style’s interview (with illustrations and inspiration board) to discover more.
Batman vs. Superman
Michael Wilkinson feels “honoured and tremendously excited to be involved”. They’re lucky to have him.
Prisoners and Out of the Furnace
Kristin Burke gives a costume critique of the two Pennsylvania based films.

It’s practically impossible for you not to have heard at least a little bit of composer Michael Giacchino’s work within the past decade. He’s created a number of memorable scores for television shows, video games and movies. Basically if you’ve watched either “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Star Trek” or “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” then you’ve heard a smidgen of what he’s done. Yes, we agree, he’s a crazy talented individual.
Since Giacchino’s been a long-time coworker and friend of J.J. Abrams, it was obvious that the composer would be working on the “Star Trek” reboot. Now he’s hard at work creating the score for “Star Trek Into Darkness,” but thankfully he had a little time in his schedule to go and talk about what he’s done so far. Did we mention this guy is one of the coolest people working in the business?...
