NEW YORK -- Cartoon Network will restructure its consumer products division under the direction of a new executive. John Friend, senior vp business development and strategy Latin America at Turner Broadcasting System International, will switch to senior vp at the newly formed Cartoon Network Enterprises. He will be based in Atlanta and report to Jim Samples, Cartoon's executive vp and general manager, and TBSI president Andy Bird. The new unit combines the domestic and international groups of the network's off-channel commerce groups into one globally oriented division dedicated to exploring licensing and merchandising opportunities in home video, interactive games, publishing, music, online retail and collectibles for Cartoon franchises, including The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Friend also will work with other AOL Time Warner subsidiaries that represent Cartoon Network business interests, including Warner Bros. International Television and Warner Music Group. He also will collaborate with Cartoon's ad sales division on promotional licensing opportunities.
