The Hollywood Radio and Television Society has elected 12 new board members and six new advisory council members, and extended CEO Melissa Grego’s contract through 2025, the organization announced Wednesday.

Discovery Channel will air the documentary Liberation Heroes: The Last Eyewitnesses, on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 Pm Et, to coincide with the nation’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The film draws on a collection of 55,000 testimonies of survivors and witnesses to the Holocaust and other genocidal events that is part of USC Shoah Foundation’s Visual History Archive. Many of the interviews were recorded since 1994 with the organization established by Steven Spielberg after his experiences filming Schindler’s List.
The one-hour documentary is part of the foundation’s 25th anniversary commemoration and its Stronger Than Hate Initiative, and is intended to serve as a cautionary reminder of what can happen when hatred remains unchecked, Discovery described.
So, it’s timely.
The project is a “call to action to stand against hate in all forms,” Discovery CEO David Zaslav explained.

Veteran producer and executive Andy Friendly has been hired to develop and executive produce a series for Planet Green, Discovery's new eco-lifestyle channel set to launch in 2008. Friendly, president of Andy Friendly Prods. and an Emmy-nominated producer, also will consult on programming and production for Planet Green. Friendly is currently developing the series he will executive produce in addition to assisting in developing a wide range of new programs for the network. The company said it will announce details in the next few months as they become available.

ICM co-president Chris Silbermann has been elected president of the Hollywood Radio and Television Society by its board of directors for the 2006-08 term, which began last month. Silbermann, previously HRTS treasurer and a longtime board member, recently chaired the HRTS' State of the Industry Newsmaker Luncheon and has co-chaired the Network Presidents and Hitmakers luncheons. He succeeds former president Andy Friendly. In his first official role as president, Silbermann will kick off HRTS' 60th anniversary Tuesday with the Newsmaker Luncheon "A Conversation With Leslie Moonves" at the Regent Beverly Wilshire.

Stephen Davis, president of mobile and online media at mobile content provider InfoSpace, has been appointed to the Hollywood Radio and Television Society's board of directors. Davis, whose term is effective immediately, "brings a valuable perspective on our industry, and his input will be greatly appreciated as we chart the future course of programs for our organization," HRTS president Andy Friendly said. Davis also serves as co-chairman of NATPE.

For evidence that the Hollywood Radio & Television Society has made a major effort to raise the profile of its long-running Newsmaker Luncheon events, look no further than the featured speaker of Tuesday's kickoff luncheon of the HRTS' 2005-06 season. Michael Eisner, outgoing CEO of the Walt Disney Co., is set to address the HRTS gathering Tuesday and take questions from the audience at the Regent Beverly Wilshire regarding his storied 21-year run at the helm of the company that was transformed during his tenure from a sleepy studio and theme park operator into a media and entertainment behemoth with global reach. This is among several high-wattage speakers and events that the HRTS is preparing for the coming season of Newsmaker Luncheons, according to newly re-elected HRTS president Andy Friendly and HRTS executive director Dave Ferrara.

Veteran TV executive and producer Andy Friendly has been tapped to executive produce Countdown to the Emmys 2004, a hourlong program that will lead into the 56th Annual Primetime Emmy awards on ABC. The live broadcast from the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium will air from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 19. "The Emmy Awards ceremony is truly television's most thrilling night," Friendly said. "Our job is to capture the excitement and build anticipation for the ceremony." Veteran television executive and producer Andy Friendly has joined Sucherman Consulting Group as senior consultant, West Coast. Friendly, former president of programming and production at King World, will work closely on a nonexclusive basis with company founder Stuart Sucherman and Sean Scanlon, who heads up the company's East Coast operations. Sucherman Consulting Group works with media, entertainment and creative organizations, including broadcast and cable networks, major studios, television station groups and international cable networks.
