Weapon X-Men #1 Writer: Christos Gage | Artist: Yildiray Cinar | Colourist: Nolan Woodard | Letters: Clayton Cowles
This was a lot of fun and I am not concerned to admit that my enjoyment of this really caught me off guard. I get sucked into anything with ‘Weapon X’ in the title and sometimes in the past that has burned me. But wow this was so much fun! That is high praise indeed seeing as it doesn’t really involve any alternate Wolverines I hold a soft spot for. Okay Old Man Logan is tried and tested, but I feel he has been overused. Here he is presented perfectly as like a Lethal Weapon ‘I’m too old for this shit’ Wolverine. Then we have Weapon X from Age of Apocalypse. That four-issue mini-series is a massive blind spot for me, but I am certainly tracking it down after reading this. In this story...

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
Love is in the air on "X-Men '97" with Rogue and ... Magneto??! Apparently, the two have a history. Now that Magneto has joined the X-Men, old feelings are surfacing.
In episode 2, "Mutant Liberation Begins," the pair share a private chat dancing around their history; Magneto tells Rogue he made a mistake by shutting Charles Xavier out (with a psychic-blocking helmet and all), saying he should've kept people who cared for him close — implicitly including Rogue too. She says she wants to keep their past buried, but at the episode's end, they meet in private again; apparently, Magneto's power can nullify Rogue's deadly touch, so she can experience intimacy with him that she can't with anyone else. A heartbroken Gambit spots Rogue exiting Magneto's office.
The third and most recent episode, "Fire Made Flesh," continued the teasing. Rogue/Magneto apparently haven't admitted the connection to their comrades,...

Cartoonist Jeff Smith, beloved for his popular indie comic book epic “Bone,” suffered a heart attack this past Sunday and has canceled his book tour for the remainder of this year. The news about Smith, 63, was first shared by representatives from Smith’s own Cartoon Books publishing company, including Smith’s wife.
“Jeff Smith is recuperating from a cardiac arrest, which he suffered on Sunday. There will be a long road to recovery, so regrettably we must cancel the remainder of his book tour this year,” Cartoon Books production manager Kathleen Glosan shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

I must be on something of a subconscious James Bond kick at the moment. I’ve just finished re-watching the Daniel Craig Bond films, and then this book caught my eye. Dynamite’s had the rights to do James Bond for a while now, and in general they’ve been doing a decent job. They’ve certainly attracted some great writers along the way, names like Warren Ellis, Christos Gage, and Greg Pak have all graced the pages of 007’s adventures. This time it’s the turn of Phillip Kennedy Johnson, no slouch himself. Eisner-nominated, he has worked for Marvel and DC for small books like Avengers and Superman. I’m expecting good things.
Let’s take a look.
First things first. As good as a story is or is not, often the cover and interior page...

There’s no doubt in our mind that the video game medium has been kind to superheroes for the past eight years and, more specifically, those residing under the DC Comics umbrella. We say that because, for the longest time, interactive experiences based on our favorite masked characters were often mediocre at best. Let’s be honest, we probably played them because they were all we had to go on.
But in 2009, the paradigm shifted with the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Not only did Rocksteady Studios get what makes the Dark Knight tick, but they found the winning formula when it came to actually bringing his world to button-mashing life. Soon after, other fan favorites like Injustice and Batman: The Telltale Series came about, each exploring the DC Universe in their own unique ways.

During their 3rd annual Valiant Summit, Valiant Entertainment once again gave us an amazing line up of books that will be released throughout this year, starting with last months launch of X-o Manowar and concluding with December's release of Quantum and Woody. It is important to note that Valiant Entertainment has only been around since their relaunch in 2012. They had such an impact that they won the award of Comic Publisher of the Year from Diamond Comic Distributors that same year. Now they are on the verge of bigger and better things including a YouTube series called Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe, a multi-movie deal with Sony which includes a Bloodshot movie and a Quantum and Woody television show that will be made by the Russo brothers, who are currently working on the next Avengers film.
They were very excited about their line up as their first title X-o Manowar #1 has already sold over 90,000 copies,...

Speaking from personal experience, I will say that whenever an oversized anniversary issue hits stands that collectors will ready their wallets, regardless of whether they’ve been actively following the series in question. So, when Amazing Spider-Man #25 ships next month, expect it to fly off shelves even though it will likely be sold at a higher price when you factor in the knowledge that it will be 96 pages strong.
When it comes to content, readers can look forward to a 40-page main story in the form of the cleverly titled “The Osborn Identity.” As you can no doubt surmise, stalwart writer Dan Slott will reunite Peter Parker with his longtime nemesis Norman Osborn as a new storyline kicks off. Furthermore, fan favorite artist Stuart Immonen has been confirmed to join the party as well.
As for the other 56 pages,...

The Clone Conspiracy doesn’t wrap up until later this month, but Marvel has already released a preview of The Clone Conspiracy: Omega, a one-shot which promises to deal with the fallout of the event. For those of you unfamiliar with what Spider-Man has been up to, his clone Ben Reilly has returned from the dead with the intent of resurrecting all his fallen foes and loved ones.
Morally, that’s something Peter Parker hasn’t been able to deal with, especially as the unhinged Ben’s plan now seems to involve turning everyone in the world into clones. How the tale wraps up is unclear at this stage, but we do know that Reilly is going to end up going back to being the Scarlet Spider.
Thankfully, the preview above does offer up...

One of the biggest shocks in The Clone Conspiracy came when we learned that a resurrected Gwen Stacy had been working with the Jackal (secretly Ben Reilly) the whole time as he enacts a scheme to bring back Peter Parker’s greatest enemies and loved ones from the grave. Now, those two will finally come face to face in next week’s issue #23 of The Amazing Spider-Man.
While the wall-crawler has come across various versions of his greatest love over the years, this is supposedly the real deal, and one of Spider-Man’s most heartbreaking defeats came when she was murdered by the Green Goblin. However, as you can see in the preview below, Peter’s having a hard time accepting that she’s his Gwen and not just another clone who shares her memories.

Some of you who read my Facebook posts might have already seen this, but I think that it’s important enough to repeat the story. It’s from the “See Something, Say Something” school.
Yesterday I was walking down the block to the store and I passed a parked car with two dogs in it and all the windows closed, including the sunroof. It was 95 degrees here in Bayonne, which meant that inside the car it must have been at least 10 degrees hotter. I went into the restaurant on the corner and asked if anyone owned this car. No. So, what to do? I waited about five minutes to see if the owner came back – nope. So I called the police. I’m happy to say they showed up immediately. They went from door-to-door up and down the street, and to the storefronts to see if they could find the owner.

Disclaimer: This editorial contains spoilers for Issues 1 & 2 of the Marvel crossover event, Civil War II.
In the words of singer Edwin Star, “War! What is it good for? Aboslutely noth’n”. This is exactly how I feel about the “Civil War” going within the Marvel Universe right now. Why would I feel that way? What can make me believe that a follow up companywide crossover to one of the biggest storylines for Marvel is “good for noth’n”? Well there quite a few reasons for such a conclusion, but first a little background on how Marvel works for those unaware.
Each year the great editors and writers of Marvel go off to a “retreat” where tons of ideas, plots, and concepts and just about anything for the company are discussed. This not so secret retreat has been going on for quite a few years with much of the focus apparently...

To be honest I know very little about Rom. The only reason I even picked this up is because a close friend of mine is a huge Rom fan to the point where he has dedicated an entire book of commissions to the character. Also during Free Comic Book Day Rom was one of the offerings that I picked up and very much enjoyed, so I have decided to give this book a shot. According to the inside of the cover, Rom is a space knights hunting down creatures called Dire Wraiths. Who apparently are evil magicians who tried to take down the Solstar Order (which is in another Galaxy), failed and have now been hiding from Rom on Earth.
In this issue Rom arrives on Earth after the Dire Wraith had been there for a while. Thus Rom’s mission becomes a lot more complicated as the wraiths had...

No DC Comics reviews for me this week as it seems Rebirth is taking a break (unless you need to go pick up those 2nd printings!-and you should!) So I will focus a little more on Marvel. Rumbles in the rumor community are suggesting Another reboot coming Marvel’s way real soon which promises to change the landscape of the Marvel Universe again! I’m guessing it will be the fallout from this terrible Civil War going on. Remember if there’s a book you want to have checked out, let me know and I will review it!

Review: This was a fun little lead up to Captain America: Steve Rogers #1. It doesn’t really show anything about the Hydra/Cap storyline, more or less it’s a standard Captain America taking down the bad Hydra thugs story. Marvel Comics has released the first look at Alex Ross's cover art for Amazing Spider-Man #15, and as you can see, it features Mary Jane wearing the Iron Spider Armor that made its debut during the first Civil War event series.
If you've been keeping up with the comics, then you know Mary Jane has been working with Tony Stark lately, and Civil War II is coming soon. As ComicBook.com points out, maybe this is a sign of things to come.
Marvel also announced Civil War II: Amazing Spider-Man, which is a four-issue miniseries by writer Christos Gage and artist Travel Foreman. The comic obviously ties in with Civil War II, which revolves around a new Inhuman who has the ability to see crimes before they occur. The superheroes are then forced to choose whether or not to use this Inhuman’s power to wield “predictive justice.” Yesterday, Marvel...

A few quick updates today on the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"

Dr. Pepper has teamed up with DC and revealed their newest promotion for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with a tie-in prequel comic. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25th, 2016. The Comic-Con trailer for David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie has now been released - and we've been dissecting it...
Well, they actually did it. David Ayer and friends are actually going to deliver us a Suicide Squad movie in August of 2016. I never thought I'd live to see the day.
Well, really, 'live to see the day' isn't a phrase you associate with a team known as the 'Suicide Squad'. This trailer landed at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 over the weekend, and wasn't really intended to be seen by the general public for a while, but Warner Bros relented and gave the fans what they wanted.
We went on a hunt for any piece of DC Comics lore that might help us make sense of the Suicide Squad movie trailer. Watch it again if you wish, and then we'll get down to business:
Here's how this is going to work.
Well, they actually did it. David Ayer and friends are actually going to deliver us a Suicide Squad movie in August of 2016. I never thought I'd live to see the day.
Well, really, 'live to see the day' isn't a phrase you associate with a team known as the 'Suicide Squad'. Buffy Season Ten #16
Written by Christos Gage
Art by Rebekah Isaacs
Colors by Dan Jackson
Published by Dark Horse Comics
One of the most important questions asked by anyone in the Buffyverse fandom is who you want Buffy to end up with: Angel or Spike? (Bangel or Spuffy if you’re truly a hardcore shipper.) Buffy’s relationship with both of these ensouled vampires was arguably one of the most important parts of the TV show as she had a close physical and emotional connection with both characters. Buffy Season Ten #16 comments on this relationship while also including a team up filled with slip ups and comic pratfalls between Buffy, Spike, and Angel against one of the demon goons of this season’s Big Bad, Archaeus. Archaeus is a demon lord, who has been seeding both Angel and Spike’s dreams with human killings that they may or may not have done.

DC Comics proves once again that if you can’t continue producing a television series, the next best thing to do is keep it alive via the printed (or digital) page. Batman Beyond 2.0 Volume Two: Justice Lords Beyond brings together issues 9 through 12 of the popular 1990's series. The graphic novel collection gives the world of Terry McGinnis an even more epic feeling than ever before through merging alternate timelines together to cataclysmic results.
In Batman Beyond 2.0 Volume Two: Justice Lords Beyond, Wonder Woman is back. What secret is she hiding? Meanwhile, Batman’s journey through the dystopian world of the Justice Lords takes a deadly turn. The Dark Knight of the future finds himself facing Lord Superman!
Kyle Higgins and Christos Gage do an incredible job of intermingling the Justice League of the future with the Justice Lords of a different and bleaker timeline. Thony Silas, Dexter Soy, and Mateo...

Amazing Spider-Man #16
Written by Dan Slott and Christos Gage
Pencils by Humberto Ramos
Colors by Edgar Delgado
Published by Marvel Comics
With Spider-Verse finally over, Peter Parker finally gets to return to the streets of New York for a smaller, more grounded adventure. But after being gone for so long, can Peter repair the damage that’s been done in his absence?
The latest issue opens with Spider-Man battling the Iguana, a bargain-bin version of the Lizard that hasn’t been seen since the 70’s. Using a C-list villain such as the Iguana right after fighting a seemingly invincible and ancient threat like the Inheritors is a humorous juxtaposition, which writer Dan Slott fully utilizes. Here, Peter battles the scaly villain while having a conversation over the phone with Anna Maria, trying once again to buy time for Peter to get to an important meeting with a prospective client interested in hiring Parker Industries.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #7
Written by Christos Gage and Nicholas Brendon

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #7 shows that Spike and Xander together as roommates is both comedic and dramatic gold. Christos Gage and Nicholas Brendon land joke after joke starting with the first page where Spike asks Xander to move over his “dolls” so he can have room for his hundreds (possibly thousands) of Soap Digests. (Vampires watching soap operas makes weird, yet logical sense. You have to do something to pass the time while the sun is up, and not everyone can read Jean-Paul Sartre in the original French like Angel.) Artist Rebekah Isaacs adds some more humor with her spot-on reaction shots of the other characters’ faces to Spike and Xander’s odd couple antics. An issue of Spike and Xander trading banter...
