Freaky Friday 2 is moving ahead at Disney with Nisha Ganatra directing, here are the details we’ve got of the follow-up.
While Jamie Lee Curtis is of course a horror icon from the Halloween franchise, and she won an Oscar in 2022 for her performance in Everything, Everywhere All At Once, Freaky Friday, the beloved body swap film in which she starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, is a terrific comedic performance.
Based on the book by Mary Rodgers, the 2003 film, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, follows Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan). Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa,...

It’s 2003 again. Lindsay Lohan is one of the most popular, but also controversial young stars, with her private life possibly being more interesting than her work. Jamie Lee Curtis, on the other hand, is a well-established star who had a breakout role in Carpenter’s Halloween. The two of them are united in Disney’s Freaky Friday, directed by Mark Waters. The movie premiered on August 6, 2003, and became both a critical and commercial success, earning a cult following in the upcoming decades.
Now, twenty years after the premiere, in May 2023, Disney announced that a sequel – Freaky Friday 2 – was in the works and we finally have some great casting updates related to the sequel, as both Lohan and Lee Curtis are seemingly coming back for the sequel.
On top of that, Nisha Ganatra, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker who has worked on numerous television series, has been hired to direct the sequel.

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have seemingly confirmed their involvement in a second ‘Freaky Friday’ flick. The actresses appeared in the beloved body-swap film in 2003, and it has long been rumoured that a follow-up movie was in the works. Now, the pair have teased they will be reuniting for second instalment in the Disney franchise. Taking to Instagram, the two posed together while Jamie wrote: “Duh! Ffdeux!”A following post from the ‘Halloween’ actress showed the two in-action during the 2003 flick, while Jamie simply added a tick emoji to the caption.Previously, Lindsay had confirmed there had been plans for a second ‘Freaky Friday’, and emphasised she was “excited” to reunite with her co-stars for the movie. She told People Magazine the flock was “in the process”, adding: “[I'm] just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it.“Because we talk almost every other day in general,...

Long since circling in the rumoursphere before Disney confirmed it was in development last year, a sequel to 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday took a big step forward with the hiring of Nisha Ganatra to direct the reunion of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The pair would return as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman.
Though The Hollywood Reporter brings word of Ganatra (who has worked on the small screen likes of Welcome To Chippendales and movies including Late Night) boarding to direct and that Dollface's Jordan Weiss wrote the most recent draft of the script, few other details have emerged. It'll clearly have more body-swap chaos (and there are hints of other generations in the Coleman family involved this time), but we're going to have to wait and see how it all goes down.

After 21 years, one of Disney’s most bizarre yet memorable comedies is getting a sequel. The 2003 version of Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, is getting a long-awaited follow-up. It was announced last year that the pair were hoping to reunite for another go, and now the film is entering pre-production with Nisha Ganatra (Director of Welcome to Chippendales) set to direct.

Freaky Friday 2 now has a director attached!
The Freaky Friday sequel will be directed by Nisha Ganatra, according to multiple reports Friday. (Rolling Stone is out to reps for Ganatra and Disney.) Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles.

Lohan confirmed earlier this month that the film was on the way.

For one glorious and weirdly prolonged moment in the early 2000s, audiences simply couldn't get enough of body-swap comedies. Two extremely different people from very opposite walks of life magically turned into each other overnight! They looked the same and talked the same, but deep down they weren't who they seemed to be! Hijinks ensued!
Because Hollywood is absolutely no fun and more or less stopped letting movie stars do their thing, this trend died out with a whimper over time ... but maybe it's now getting the comeback it deserves? Rather than something new and original, however, Disney is going back to the drawing board and resurrecting 2003's Millennial classic "Freaky Friday." I guess we'll take what we can get at this point. The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on a new sequel in the works, finally gaining traction over 20 years after the original. That's not all, though. This Friday just got a little bit freakier for millennial Disney fans: “Freaky Friday 2” has a director attached, which means, yes, it’s happening. “Late Night” director Nisha Ganatra (“Welcome to Chippendales”) is ready to get to work behind the camera, The Hollywood Reporter wrote, with Og stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in talks to return in front.
The “Freaky Friday” sequel has been one the Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets, but still, nothing is official until it is.
“Freaky Friday 2” is very much on trend. The film will join a whole slew of sequels set 20-plus years after their initial (respective) releases. There was already the new (musical) “Mean Girls,” and sequels to “John Tucker Must Die” and “The Princess Diaries” are in the works. (It’d be the third “Princess Diaries” film.)

A day after Sundance juror Marlee Matlin walked out of the premiere of “Magazine Dreams” in protest, along with the rest of the festival jury, the Oscar winner talked in-depth about the importance of open captions on film. Speaking at the Variety and Stacy’s Pita Chip Rise brunch, an event celebrating female creators on Jan. 21, Matlin passionately advocated for better inclusive storytelling.
When asked about her work on the 2022 best picture winner “Coda” (which swept the 2021 Sundance fest as well), Matlin stressed the lengths her film took to embrace all fans of cinema. “The film was open caption, the entire film, so you couldn’t just turn it off and on,” Matlin told Variety Senior Entertainment Writer Angelique Jackson. “For me, it made me feel very included, because I could sit and watch the film with everyone reacting the same way, the same time, feeling the same emotions. The in-person return of Sundance sparked joyous reunions on the ground in Utah this week, but it’s not all celebrations. The industry confronted a troubling milestone on Sunday in Park City: the 50-year anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade decision that gave women the constitutional right to an abortion.
Last June, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down that decision, sending pro-choice supporters – including many powerbrokers in entertainment and media – scrambling into action. At an intimate gathering off Main Street, Planned Parenthood hosted its ninth annual Sex, Politics, Film & TV event, where group leaders implored Hollywood to help in the fight for reproductive rights.
Caren Spruch, Planned Parenthood’s national director of arts and entertainment engagement, co-hosted the event with director Nisha Ganatra.
In her remarks, Spruch said the cocktail part should’ve been toasting Roe’s birthday, but instead, “the Supreme Court took away our federal constitutional right to abortion.

HBO Max’s new trailer for “And Just Like That,” its revival of “Sex and the City,” expands on the teaser, revealing where Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and the gang are more than 11 years after we saw them in the movie “Sex and the City 2.”
Along with Parker, Kristin Davis has returned as Charlotte and Cynthia Nixon once again plays Miranda. Kim Cattrall has chosen not to come back as fan-favorite Samantha, due to issues that have been well documented over the years. “Sex and the City” mainstays Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler and Willie Garson — who died in September — reprise their past roles. New cast members Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker and Karen Pittman join them.
The trailer appears to reveal that the three women are still married — at least for now — and spotlights Big on a Peloton, kissing Carrie, and saying to her,...

HBO Max has debuted the official trailer for “And Just Like That…” the 9-episode series return of HBO’s flagship comedy “Sex and the City.” As expected, the series will be full of high fashion, quippy dialogue, and beloved characters — with some exciting new additions as well. Franchise talents Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis are all returning to reprise their career-defining roles. Only Kim Cattrall is awkwardly absent. Following two blockbuster movies in 2008 and 2010, a third film was shelved in 2017 when Cattrall refused to return, saying she’d “had enough” playing Samantha Jones. Determined to forge ahead without their bawdiest broad, the remaining trio banded together and reshaped the revival for television, returning “Sex and the City” to its original form. And just like that, “And Just Like That…” was born.
