- Francis Girod was born on October 9, 1944 in Semblançay, Indre-et-Loire, France. He was a director and actor, known for Le bon plaisir (1984), Transfixed (2001) and The Infernal Trio (1974). He died on November 19, 2006 in Bordeaux, Gironde, France.

- Became a television series director in 1967 ("Périscope" and "En toutes lettres").
- Turned his talents to journalism in 1965, writing for the "Nouvel Observateur" and "Combat" while also working on the "Les Femmes aussi", "Dim Dam Dom" and "En toutes lettres" series for the ORTF French broadcasting service (1964-1966).
- Was a member of the Académie des Beaux Arts (Academy of Fine Arts, one of the five academies of the Institut de France) since 2002.
- Was named president of the SACD board of directors (2005-2006).
