NCIS expanded its universe in 2014 by launching its spin-off series New Orleans. The idea was initially conceived by late NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg. But actor Mark Harmon might’ve been the reason it became another show entirely.

NCIS already saw how profitable a spin-off series could be. In 2009, the series spawned NCIS Los Angeles. The show would see LL Cool J and Chris O. Donnell in the leads, with the series once achieving similar ratings to NCIS.
NCIS New Orleans would later enjoy similar successes in the beginning of its run. But unlike Los Angeles, New Orleans wasn’t first conceived as a spin-off show. The show-runner at the time, the late Gary Glasberg, envisioned a special NCIS episode that would take place in New Orleans. When Glasberg told Harmon about the idea,...

NCIS star Mark Harmon and his partner Michael Weatherly were able to dig deep into their characters on a special NCIS episode. But Weatherly quipped that the best part about the occasion was getting rough with Harmon.

Weatherly and Harmon were both allowed to get pretty physical with each other as their NCIS characters. In one of the show’s episodes “Baltimore,” the series took a step backwards to explore the history of Weatherly’s Tony Dinozzo. The series was already in its eighth season back then, so Harmon felt NCIS put in enough legwork over the years to explore characters’ backstories.
“By the time we started doing flashbacks, which was a number of years in, we’d earned it. Certainly as an actor you have more to grip on to,” Harmon once told TV Guide.

NCIS fans know no one can replace Michael Weatherly as Anthony D. “Tony” Dinozzo, Jr. Weatherly played the special agent in the series for over 300 episodes from 2003 to 2016, and the casting directors knew from the start that Weatherly was the top choice to play Dinozzo. So, what has Weatherly been in since leaving NCIS behind? Here’s what to know.
What has ‘NCIS’ star Michael Weatherly starred in since his exit?
Michael Weatherly was a leading star in NCIS, but he couldn’t stay on the show forever. Tony Dinozzo was last featured in 2016, and he left off by deciding to focus on raising the daughter he had with Ziva David. Showrunner Gary Glasberg spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Weatherly’s retirement from the series.
“Michael Weatherly has been an enormous part of NCIS from Day 1. I can’t replace Michael Weatherly,” Glasberg said. “But, what I can do...

Is it time to hold a jazz funeral for NCIS: New Orleans?
Perhaps that's a little premature, but on NCIS: New Orleans Season 3, the procedural is definitely going through some growing pains.
Its ratings are down about 20% from last year. Ratings have fallen from 11.12 million for this season's premiere to a low of 9.531 million, before recovering slightly to 9.616 million on Oct. 25.
Much of that is a result of the move to 10 p.m. Tuesday, traditionally a time for lower viewership, especially with the bedtimes for CBS's typical viewers.
Also, instead of following NCIS, the No. 1 drama on CBS, it's behind Bull, which, granted, is the No. 2 drama. See what impact riding NCIS's coattails can have?
But not all the decline is the result of the time-slot change. NCIS: New Orleans is struggling creatively in a time of transition.

I wanted to like this episode, I really did. Well, I want to like all the episodes I see. But NCIS Season 14 Episode 3 just came across as mostly generic. Was it bad? No. But it was one of those stories that you probably won't remember next week, let alone next season.
Not even a stir-crazy Fornell and a snappy Dr. Grace could really save "Privileged Information" from being bland and predictable.
As soon as they introduced the sister, I was suspicious of her; regardless of the sister's apparent grief over the victim's imminent demise, I tend to heavily weigh on Ebert's law of conservation of characters. In short, rarely will a character be introduced if he or she does not have some part to play.
They tried to pull a fast one with Griffin Dorn (who was even ex-cia!).
Is it *possible* to be former CIA?

But maybe he isn’t so far off.

Can Wilmer Valderrama help fill the void left behind on NCIS by Michael Weatherly's departure?
He's sure going to try!
Valderrama has been cast as a series regular for NCIS Season 14.
Valderrama's character, who doesn't appear to have a name as of yet, will be a once grounded NCIS field agent who accepted a deep cover assignment years ago and never resurfaced.
Many agents don’t know he’s still on the job or that he’s even alive.
Now, he’s back and his dedication to job and country has left him an unpredictable, charismatic loose cannon.
Hmmm...you have to wonder how an unpredictable (even if charismatic) loose cannon would really fit in with the NCIS team we know and love.
Maybe he won't. Just because he's a series regular doesn't mean he's going to be a part of Gibbs' team.
At least not right away. With so many rules to follow,...
