I was 10 when Anything But Love came out. I’m fairly certain it drew my love map in indelible ink, and Richard Lewis — whom we sadly lost Wednesday — held the pen.
Picture it: suburban Connecticut, the late 1980s. A pre-teen girl who loves books and can’t get enough TV starts watching a Tuesday-night sitcom, mainly because it comes on after Roseanne. From Episode 1, something is different. The male lead is a bit of an oddball. He wears all black. He self-deprecates at every opportunity. But there’s just something about him, and when he and the female lead start...

Richard Lewis’ friends and co-stars, including Larry David, Jamie Lee Curtis and Cheryl Hines, are taking to social media to pay tribute to the late actor and comedian.
Lewis, known for his role on Curb Your Enthusiasm, died Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home after suffering a heart attack, his publicist told The Hollywood Reporter. The Anything but Love actor revealed in April last year that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease and was retiring from stand-up.
Larry David, the star and creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm, shared in a statement: “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

Jamie Lee Curtis remembered Richard Lewis, her co-star on the late-Eighties sitcom Anything But Love, and credited the stand-up legend as “the reason I am sober” in a tribute following the Curb Your Enthusiasm actor’s death.
“I’ve just read that my friend Richard Lewis has died,” Curtis wrote on social media. “I remember exactly where I was when I saw a billboard of him about a stand up special on Sunset Boulevard when we were casting the ABC pilot Anything But Love and asked the casting people to...

If the cast and crew of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” take home a Golden Globe on Sunday, it will obviously be great for Amazon Studios, the performers and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. But at this moment in time, it’s also great for those of the Jewish faith. And perhaps even necessary.
Anti-Semitism is, once again, rearing its ugly head around the world: A gunman killed 11 people and injured seven others during a Shabbat service last October at a Pittsburgh synagogue. The Cleveland Clinic fired a resident after she made anti-Semitic comments on social media and threatened to give Jewish people “the wrong meds.” And according to the New York Times, even the Women’s March movement has become embroiled over accusations of anti-Semitism by some of its organizers.
Hollywood figures have not been immune. Hate-filled graffiti (“Kill All Jews”) forced Ilana Glazer, one of the stars of Comedy Central’s “Broad City,...

New York -- Former TV news anchor Dan Rather sued CBS Chief Executive Leslie Moonves and former CBS News President Andrew Heyward on Monday in a bid to have them reinstated as defendants in his $70 million lawsuit against the network.
In a lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court, Rather accused the two men of fraud relating to his claim that CBS made him a scapegoat in a scandal over a 2004 report on then-President George W. Bush's military record.
"These are the two individuals who committed the crime on behalf of CBS and we're holding them personally responsible," said Rather's lawyer, Martin Gold.
Rather claims CBS breached his contract and its fiduciary duty in part by not giving him enough on-air assignments after he was removed in March 2005 after 24 years as anchor of the "CBS Evening News."

New York -- A New York State Supreme Court judge threw out two claims in Dan Rather's amended lawsuit against CBS but let stand two others that could send the breach-of-contract case to trial in several months.
Judge Ira Gammerman on Monday dismissed fraud and tortuous interference with contract claims against CBS Corp. that were part of the anchor's $70 million lawsuit against his former employer. What remains are breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty, essentially claims by Rather that CBS didn't live up to its promises to give him a choice slot on "60 Minutes" after he left the anchor desk and also kept him hanging long enough to damage his journalistic reputation.
The defense also alleges that there was a special relationship between Rather and CBS News that precluded him being treated like an ordinary employee.
