“CSI: Vegas” may be canceled, but CBS isn’t giving up on the franchise. The Eye network announced Tuesday a new edition in the “CSI” universe — but this time in the unscripted space.
CBS has ordered the unscripted, true-crime docuseries “The Real CSI: Miami” based on the drama “CSI: Miami,” which aired from 2002 to 2012 (for 10 seasons and 232 episodes). The new series is set to release on CBS on June 26 at 10 p.m. Et. The news came as CBS announced its summer lineup.
The logline for “The Real CSI: Miami” reads, “Each episode features gripping real-life crime cases and the cutting-edge forensic science used to solve them. ‘The Real CSI: Miami’ highlights that at the heart of every story is a victim and a family seeking justice.”
The news of another “CSI” show being ordered comes after the last show in the franchise “CSI: Vegas” announced its cancellation in April after three seasons.

CSI: Miami is getting the docuseries treatment.
CBS has ordered an unscripted series based on its iconic crime drama – The Real CSI: Miami.
It comes from CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, Jerry Bruckheimer, who has produced the franchise and Nailed It! and Top Chef producer Magical Elves.
The series will feature real-life crime cases and the cutting-edge forensic science used to solve them.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach recently teased that there was another CSI project in development. She said that the CBS brand was “part of its legacy as a company”. “I definitely think that franchise is alive and well will continue to be in discussions we have,” she said. “I think that ultimately we’ll find different and interesting ways to bring the show back.”

CBS has given an early series order to “Sheriff Country,” a new spin-off of hit Eye network drama “Fire Country.” But rather than airing the show next fall or midseason, CBS plans to save “Sheriff Country” for the 2025-2026 TV season.
The show comes out of a “Fire Country” backdoor pilot that aired on April 12 as the episode “Alert the Sheriff.” In that episode and in the series, Morena Baccarin (“Homeland”) stars as “straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox,” the stepsister of “Fire Country’s” Cal Fire division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr). Per the logline, Mickey “investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.”
Tony Phelan and Joan Rater are writing the first “Sheriff Country” episode, with story by Phelan, Rater and Max Thieriot. Executive producers are Thieriot, Phelan, Rater, and Jerry Bruckheimer and...

While announcing its schedule for the 2024-25 TV season Thursday, CBS also got a head start on the season after that.
The network has formally greenlit Sheriff Country, a spinoff of its second-year drama Fire Country. Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Gotham) will star, reprising her role from an April Fire Country episode that set up the spinoff.
Sheriff Country won’t premiere, however, until the 2025-26 season. CBS Entertainment president told reporters Thursday that the extra time will give the network breathing room to get the show right.
“We do long-term development at CBS now,” Reisenbach said. “[The extra year] gives us plenty of time to cast it and figure out how we want to produce it. It’s a huge opportunity for us and speaks to the kind of development we want to be doing.”

The CSI franchise’s return to CBS is coming to an end as CBS on Friday opted not to renew CSI: Vegas for a fourth season.
On Saturday, CSI and CSI: Vegas star Marg Helgenberger who played Catherine Willows for 14 seasons across the original series and the followup, reflected on the cancellation.
“Each & every person involved with the making of this series brought their A game each & every day,” Helgenberger wrote on Instagram next to an on-set photo of the cast. “It was truly a pleasure & honor to work/play alongside such a fun & talented company of story tellers. Immeasurable thanks & gratitude to all for making this experience such a memorable ride. And to all the fans; we did it all for you.”
Lex Medlin, who, like Helgenberger, joined CSI: Vegas as a series regular in Season 2, posted a similar behind-the-scenes cast photo on Ig with a note to fans about the cancellation.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

CBS is looking to reopen Cold Case. A reboot of the crime procedural, which aired for seven seasons from 2003 to 2010, is currently in development at the Eye Network, our sister site Deadline reports.
Fifteen years after the original series ended, this new iteration would follow an entirely different group of detectives dedicated to investigating unsolved crimes. Though additional details are being kept under wraps, one confirmed change from the original series is its setting; the reboot would take place in the Southwest, whereas the original was set in Philadelphia.

“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.
In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

Ahead of the Showtime and Paramount+ merger, Paramount Global is cleaning house. “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In,” two drama series that premiered last year, have been canceled at the channel, IndieWire has confirmed.
In addition, Showtime will no longer be proceeding with the series “Three Women,” starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, and Gabrielle Creevy. The series, which finished principal production, will be shopped to other outlets, and “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In” are also reportedly being shopped.
Paramount Global announced the integration of Showtime into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear television on January 30, revealing it will occur “later this year.” Rather than just offering Showtime on the Paramount+ app, Showtime Ott and Showtime linear will be rebranded to “Paramount+ with Showtime,” and the Showtime Ott and Anytime apps will be shut down, IndieWire is told. Fire Country is a bonafide hit for C.B.S.
The Max Thieriot procedural returned from hiatus with Fire Country Season 1 Episode 9 on Friday, and the numbers were very good.
The thrilling episode logged 6.4 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo.
Fire Country reached a series high in total viewers, proving once again that it is one of the season's biggest hits.
S.W.A.T. (5.3 million/0.5) and Blue Bloods (5.9 million/0.4) also turned in solid numbers for C.B.S., but Fire Country dominated the night in total viewers and tied for #1 overall in the demo.
News of the strong ratings dropped just a day after C.B.S. ordered up a very early second-season renewal.
C.B.S. said the series eclipses 10 million viewers when looking at live + 35 and multiplatform viewing.

CBS says Fire Country has averaged 8 million viewers per episode, making it broadcast’s most-watched new series of the season. The number rises to 10 million, says the network, when streaming across all platforms, such as Paramount+, get added in.

CBS is wasting little time in locking down its trio of first-year scripted shows.
The network has extended the orders for East New York, Fire Country and So Help Me Todd after promising starts for all three. CBS is calling the extensions “full season orders,” though it hasn’t set episode counts for the trio. In the era of shorter season orders, a full run can mean anything from 15 or 16 episodes to the once-standard 22.
The pickups for the three shows come as little surprise, as Fire Country, East New York and So Help Me Todd are the three most watched rookie network shows of the 2022-23 season so far. One of CBS’ hot new prospects for the fall — the CBS Studios/Bruckheimer Television drama “Fire Country” — got off to a solid start in its linear debut Friday. The show also helped boost CBS’ live streaming numbers compared to the comparable fall Friday premiere night in 2021.
“Fire Country,” an action-drama revolving around California firefighters, opened to 5.74 million viewers in the 9 p.m. hour, according to Nielsen. The series built on its “S.W.A.T.” lead-in by a significant margin, as the sixth season premiere of the police drama brought in 4.6 million viewers at 8 p.m.
CBS capped the night with “Blue Bloods” grabbing 6.1 million viewers with its 13th season premiere at 10 p.m. CBS easily took Friday bragging rights in linear total viewers with an average of 5.5 million.

After a decade-long absence from the world of yellow tape and bloody corpses, Marg Helgenberger reprised her role as Catherine Willows Thursday on CBS’ CSI: Vegas. It seems her character’s so-called “retirement” — which involved serving on the board of the Eclipse hotel and mentoring young women in forensic science — wasn’t that fulfilling, so the episode began with her asking Maxine (Paula Newsome) for her old gig back.
Fortunately, there were a couple of job openings since Gil (William Petersen) and Sara (Jorja Fox) were never replaced after leaving at the end of last season. Apparently, the Grissoms are currently on a boat in the Arctic circle but in real life, Petersen only signed for one year on CSI: Vegas while Fox chose not to return for a second season.

When Marg Helgenberger left the first iteration of CSI back in Season 12, she did it because, well, she needed the break. She was the original female lead opposite Billy Petersen. “I played the role for so long. It felt like it had become a part of my identity,” she told reporters Friday during CBS’ TCA panel.
So when the CSI: Vegas producers called Helgenberger to join the cast in Season 2, it took a minute before she could commit to stepping inside the yellow tape again.
“I wanted to make sure there was a reason Catherine would come back to the job,” explained Helgenberger, who modeled her character after a real-life forensics expert who stepped away from her job at age 50. “It’s a tough gig. Why would Catherine,...

Ever since it was announced that Max Thieriot would be headlining the new CBS drama Fire Country, there has been a question mark surrounding his future on Seal Team.
At the time of the latter's sixth season pickup, Thieriot had not closed a deal to return.
As a result, the Seal Team Season 5 finale left his character's future up in the air.
Thankfully, Thieriot closed a deal to return to the Paramount+ drama and has revealed that he is juggling the two shows pretty well.
“It’s obviously a juggle, but thankfully, we started Seal Team season six before we started shooting episode two of Fire Country, so I was able to work it right into the gap in between,” Thieriot said at TCA Friday.
“It’s been crazy, but life’s crazy. I got a couple of kids to throw in there and moving around up to Vancouver to shoot a TV show.

Exclusive: Michael Trucco (Midnight Mass) has joined the upcoming CBS drama series Fire Country as a recurring star.
He will play Vince’s (Billy Burke) brother Luke who is described as a charming Cal Fire Communications Director. He’s a schmoozy PR guy now, but he’s worked years in active fires, earning his fair share of scars. He’s career-driven, always looking for that next promotion, that next feather in his cap. His kidding, playful nature instantly endears him to almost everyone— except his older brother, Vince (a gruff fire chief). Luke will step in to help out his family, but the longer he sticks around, the more his “altruistic” motives will come into question.
In Fire Country, seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence, young convict Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot) joins a firefighting program that returns him to his small Northern California hometown, where he and other inmates...

It's been over a decade since Nicolas Cage last graced screens as "National Treasure"'s Declaration of Independence-stealing, president-kidnapping Benjamin Franklin Gates, but more thrill-seeking adventures are coming our way - this time, in the form of a new TV series! On Sept. 10, Disney+ unveiled the first full-length trailer for "National Treasure: Edge of History," and the show looks action-packed - plus, it includes plenty of nods to the original franchise.
While Cage isn't expected to appear in the series, the presence of his character, Ben Gates, is felt thanks to a fun Easter egg. In one scene from the trailer, a character discovers Benjamin Franklin's glasses - the same glasses Ben used in the 2004 "National Treasure." Additionally, the series will see Justin Bartha reprising the role of Riley.

“American Gigolo,” Showtime’s “present-day reimagining” of Paul Schrader’s 1980 erotic drama of the same name, first began as an idea gestating at Jerry Bruckheimer Television in 2014. According to executive producer Jonathan Littman, the show — which stars Jon Bernthal in the role originated by Richard Gere — once had Jared Leto attached to play the suave, high-end escort.
Not entirely a reboot and certainly not a remake, the series picks up 15 years after Julian Kaye (Bernthal) was framed for a murder he didn’t commit. Following his exoneration, Julian must once navigate the treacherous world of L.A. elites, all the while navigating who betrayed him in the first place.

Disney+’s “National Treasure” spinoff series introduced its newest treasure hunter in a teaser released at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, and revealed that another familiar face would be returning.
Though the teaser is quick, there’s plenty to be seen. It opens in an office, where our new hero has a whole board set up with maps and information, presumably related to the next treasure that’s out in the world. Wearing a very Indiana Jones-esque hat and jacket, she takes off her hat to reveal long hair and looks straight into camera.
And so we meet Jess, the series’ heroine played by Lisette Olivera. According to the official “National Treasure: Edge of History” synopsis, she’s “a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.”
