Filming is underway in New Orleans on David Gordon Green's feature adaptation of the 2005 political campaign doc of the same name. In her first live-action feature film appearance since "Gravity," Sandra Bullock plays retired political consultant "Calamity" Jane Bodine. She's pulled back into the game by a team of Americans tasked with getting an unpopular Bolivian president reelected. The campaign gets chaotic when Billy Bob Thornton shows up as the opposition — and, as we learn, he's also Jane's worst enemy. The film's top drawer cast includes Anthony Mackie (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), Scoot McNairy (“Gone Girl,” “Argo”), Zoe Kazan (“Ruby Sparks”), Ann Dowd (“Side Effects,” HBO’s “The Leftovers”), Reynaldo Pacheco (“Beginners”), Dominic Flores (“Rampart”), Louis Arcella (NBC’s “The Blacklist”), Octavio Gómez Berríos (“Che: Part One”) and Joaquim de Almeida (“Fast Five”). Filming is underway in New Orleans on director David Gordon Green’s (“Pineapple Express,” “George Washington”) feature adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2005 documentary Our Brand Is Crisis, starring Oscar winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) and Billy Bob Thornton (“Sling Blade”).
When a group of American consultants accept the challenge of getting an unpopular Bolivian president re-elected, they realize they need help. Tracking down retired maverick political consultant Jane Bodine (Bullock) to her cabin in the woods, they persuade her to lead the team—a decision they quickly come to regret, as “Calamity” Jane begins to live up to her nickname, unleashing her very own brand of chaos on the campaign.
Just as all seems lost, the loathsome Pat Candy (Thornton), Jane’s worst enemy, arrives in town to work for the opposition. Suddenly things become personal and as the battle begins the consultants get to see Jane the legend in action.

Paris -- American producers will break bread with the creme-de-la-creme of Gaul's film industry when French Producers' Guild the Apc, the Deauville Film Festival and the Hollywood Reporter host a star-studded lunch at Cartier's Villa in Deauville on Saturday, Sept 12.
The lunch will focus on the Apc's new "American & International Desk" designed in response to the "Trip" tax rebate for foreign production passed by the French government earlier this year.
The A & I Desk aims to promote an exchange between foreign and French film execs and develop new business opportunities for international projects with locations in France. The Deauville lunch marks the A & I Desk's first official matchmaking event since its launch over the summer.
"We're very happy and proud to be able to launch this collaborative process between French production and international filmmakers, notably from the U.S.," Apc managing director Frederic Goldsmith said in an interview. The A...

As the San Francisco Independent Film Festival drew to a close yesterday, it bowed out with a final night time showing of Deadgirl, a controversial picture that challenges the audience's idea of sex and the coming-of-age. It's a nice bookmark to its opening night film, Somers Town, which is also about two teenage boys and a girl, but is at the opposite end of the spectrum. In between, we have films that are either full of life or apologetically cynical, completing a journey from the sweet to the depraved.
Here's a recap of the interesting independent films we had the chance to see.
